Objectives To investigate the associations of serum superoxide dismutase ( SOD) , malondialdehyde (MDA), and uric acid (UA) with blood pressure and the prevalence of hypertension in a Chinese population. Methods We measured serum superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA) and uric acid (UA) in 506 randomly selected participants. For database management and statistical analysis, we used the SAS 9.13 Software. Results Compared with normotensive participants, hypertensive patients had significantly lower serum levels of superoxide dismutase activity ( =0.0002), and higher serum levels of malondialdehyde and uric acid ( <0.05) .Univariate analysis indicated that serum superoxide dismutase activity was negatively associated with blood pressure, and serum levels of uric acid (P 0.0001);while serum levels of malondialdehyde was positively associated with blood pressure, and serum levels of uric acid (P 0.05) . There was significant difference in systolic (Ptrend=0.02) and diastolic blood pressure (Ptrend=0.04) between three groups defined by tertiles of serum levels of superoxide dismutase, with a lower blood pressure in the highest tertile than in the lowest tertile. Furthermore, the systolic (Ptrend=0.01) and diastolic blood pressure (Ptrend=0.003) in the highest tertile, which defied by the serum levels of malondialdehyde, were significantly higher than those in the lowest tertile. Conclusions Hypertensive patients have a disturbed oxidative and anti-oxidative balance. Oxidative stress may play a role in the pathogenesis of hypertension in Chinese.

Objective To observe the effect Azithromycin injection in the treatment of mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia ( MPP) in children. Methods Forty-four children of mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia were randomly divided into two groups, the Azithromycin group ( treat by Azithromycin, made by Pfizer) and the control group (treat by domestic Azithromycin) respectively. Improvement in symptoms and signs between the two groups were observed and compared. Results There were 25 cases in the Azithromycin group, of which, after a week, 17 cases cured,2 cases got better significantly and 6 cases got better. The effective ratio was 76. 00% ( 19/25 ). There were 19 cases in the control group, of which 5 cases cured, 9 cases got better significantly ,4 cases got better and 1 case no change. The effective ratio was 73. 68% (14/19). There was no statistical significance in the effective ratio between the two groups ( x2 = 0. 03, P > 0. 05). However, the Azithromycin group was superior to the control group both in the one week cure rate (t = 7.50,P< 0.05) and on defervescence time (t = 34. 05, P < 0. 05 ) and rales disappearance (t = 2. 39, P < 0. 05 ). Conclusion Azithromycin injection is more effective than domestic Azithromycin in the treatment of mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia, especially in the aspect of improving symptoms.

OBJECTIVEThis study aims to identify the crack tip stress intensity factor of the propagation process, crack propagation path, and the changes in the shape of the crack tip by the finite element method.
METHODSThe finite element model of dentino-enamel junction was established with ANSYS software, and the length of the initial crack in the single edge was set to 0.1 mm. The lower end of the sample was fixed. The tensile load of 1 MPa with frequency of 5 Hz was applied to the upper end. The stress intensity factor, deflection angle, and changes in the shape of the crack tip in the crack propagation were calculated by ANSYS.
RESULTSThe stress intensity factor suddenly and continuously decreased in dentino-enamel junction as the crack extended. A large skewed angle appeared, and the stress on crack tip was reduced.
CONCLUSIONThe dentino-enamel junction on human teeth may resist crack propagation through stress reduction.

Objective To investigate the understanding level of asthma related knowledge and the treatment compliance in parents of children with asthma in Tianjin. Methods Questionnaire survey was given to 93 randomly selected parents of children with asthma at our asthmatic clinic ,whose children began to receive regularly asthmatic administration for at least 6 months from June to July in 2009. Results 72.04% of the parents included into the survey knew that asthma was a chronic airway inflammatory disease; 100% of them adhered to use prescription inhaled corticosteroid (55.91%) or inhaled corticosteroid combined with an inhaled long-acting β2-agonist (44. 09% ) ;74. 68% of them believed that if the child is in a well control state, he/she could participate in exercise as healthy children. There were 93.55% and 97.85% children patients aged > 5 had never used PEF meter or CACT respectively to monitor the ill conditions. 25.81% of the parents chose rapid-acting β2-agonist to deal with asthma at acute attack stage, while 19.35% chose to add antibiotics and 11.83% were unable to do anything. 43.01% of the parents worried that the long-term use of inhaled corticosteroid would have side effects on the growth and development of their children, although they chose to obey to the doctor's prescription. Conclusions The general understanding of asthma is good in the parents, whose children had received asthmatic administration regularly in Tianjin area, but there are still some weak links exist. The related education may help asthmatic children's parents to master the knowledge of asthma, give them correct recognition of the treatment and prevention of asthma, increase the treatment compliance. This work should be insisted continuously.
