Objective:To study the relationship among brachial ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV ) ,level of high sensitive C reactive protein (hsCRP ) and blood glucose level in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM ) . Methods :A total of 102 T2DM patients and 60 healthy people undergoing physical examination (normal control group) were selected .According to level of glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) ,T2DM patients were divided into normal HbA1c group (n=44 ,HbA1c≤6. 5% ) and HbA1c elevating group (n=58 ,HbA1c>6. 5% ) .BaPWV ,lev‐els of blood lipids ,blood glucose and hsCRP were measured and compared among above groups .Results:Compared with normal control group ,there were significant rise in hsCRP level [(1.82 ± 0.2) mg/L vs . (2.7 ± 0.1) mg/L vs . (3.5 ± 0.1) mg/L] and baPWV [ (1412 ± 95) cm/s vs . (1755 ± 72) cm/s vs . (2040 ± 105) cm/s] in normal HbA1c group and HbA1c elevating group (P<0.01 all) ,and hsCRP level and baPWV of HbA1c elevating group were sig‐nificantly higher than those of normal HbA1c group ,P<0.05 both .Conclusion:Brachial ankle pulse wave velocity and level of hsCRP of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus are significantly higher than those of normal subjects , and those of patients with poor blood glucose control are significantly higher than those of patients with good blood glucose control .Active blood glucose control can delay atherosclerosis progress .

Pharmacognostic studies on the sollrce, shape, morphology, microscopic structrue and physico-chemical properties of the genitalia of mink were carried out in comparison with those of deer, donkey and dog with similar pharmacologic actions. Results showed that the genitalia of mink has its specific features in shape,mi croscopic structure and physico-chemical properties which can be used as the main characteristics to distin guish it from those of other animals. Chemical analysis showed that the genitalia of mink was rich in aminoacids and its zinc, manganese and calcium contents exceeded those present in the genitalia of other ani mals

The effect of nateglinide or sequential treatment with metformin on glycemic stability in newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes was investigated. Thirty-four cases of newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes received nateglinide therapy, or sequential treatment with metformin according to fasting and postprandial blood glucose, and were classified into isolated nateglinide therapy group(n=14) and sequentially treated with metformin group(n=20). Glycemic stability, reflected by mean amplitude of glycemic excursions(MAGE) and HbA1C, was determined in all patients before and after therapy for three months. HbA1C and MAGE in two groups were all improved after treatment(P<0.05). The therapy of nateglinide alone or combined with metformin can significantly improve glycemic stability in newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes.

BACKGROUND: Artificial nerve grafts of human hair keratin are a kind of biological products. It has low antigenicity, absorbability and stimulation to nerve fiber growth following specific biochemistry. It is hoped to have better effect than otherartificial nerve grafts. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the anatomy and histocompatibility of artificial nerve grafts of the human-hair keratin, and toobserve its effects on the repair of peripheral nerves. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: Randomized, controlled, animal experiment. The study was performed at the Animal CentralLaboratory of Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University Medical College between November 2006 and June 2008. MATERIALS: Artificial nerve grafts of human hair keratin is a compound of human hair processed by specific controlledbiochemistry based on ground substance, embedded with a layer of biological membrane. It has low antigenicity, absorbabilityand stimulation to nerve fiber growth following specific biochemistry. METHODS: Eighteen Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups. The sciatic nerve, 10 mm, was removed andtransplanted with human-hair keratin graft, skeletal muscle and untreated hair, respectively.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The characteristics of histomorphology and anatomy were observed at 8, 12, 24 weeks afterthe surgery. RESULTS: White tissues appeared between the broken ends of the sciatic nerve at 8 post-operative week in the graft group, and appeared in the graft space in human-hair keratin at the 12th week. At the 24th week, a large amount of infantile myelinatednerve fibers were observed under optical microscope regenerating around the human hair, which was partially degraded andabsorbed. Schwann cells were observed under an electron microscope and myelinization. CONCLUSION: The artificial nerve grafts of the human-hair keratin are well compatible with the body tissues, and couldinduce nerve regeneration.

This study was designed to observe the clinical value of low-density lipoprotein immune complexes (LDL-ICs) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Fifty-four patients with type 2 diabetes + macroangiopathy (DM-MA group), 48 patients with type 2 diabetes (DM group), 45 patients with macroangiopathy ( MA group), and 30 normal controls ( NC group) were enrolled. LDL-ICs levels in the DM-MA group were significantly higher than those in the other three groups. The levels of LDL-ICs in the MA group were higher than those in the NC and DM groups. There was a significant difference in LDL-ICs between the DM and NC groups. LDL-ICs levels were positively related with body mass index (BMI), glycesylated hemoglobin Alc(HbAlc), blood pressure, total cholesterol, and triglyceride. There was no significant relationship between low-density lipsprotcin cholesterol and LDL-ICs. A significantly negative correlation was recorded between high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and LDL-ICs. Our study suggests that LDL-ICs, blood pressure, and HbAlc may be risk factors of macroangiopathy in type 2 diabetic patients.

Spotted fever caused by spotted fever group rickettsiae (SFGR) is found throughout China. During 2007–2008, 28 human SFGR isolates and 34 rat SFGR isolates including 15 isolates from Rattus fulvescens, 5 isolates from R. edwardsi, 7 isolates from Callosciurus erythraeus roberti and 7 isolates from Dremomys rufigenis) were obtained from L929 cell culture. Previous research indicated that the 62 strains of SFGR mentioned above shared not only the same serophenotype but also 100% of identity sequences of 16S rRNA, gltA, ompA, groEL and 17KD, which enabled us to apply multispacer typing (MST) to the 62 SFGR isolates in the study. Six primer pairs, which were used for typing of Rickettsia rickettsii and Rickettsia conorii, were chosen, and the results exhibited greater nucleotide polymorphisms among the 62 isolates tested. A total of 48 distinct genotypes were identified. The dominant genotype, represented by h3 isolates, accounted for 21.7% (13/60) of the isolates tested, and the remaining 47 genotypes were all unique. Phylogenetic analysis showed that all the 48 genotypes could be classified in the same clade, while the genetically related strain, R. heilongjiangensis, was close but not the same as the cluster. We concluded that the genetically diverse of spotted fever group rickettsiae strains are endemic in Chengmai County, Hainan Province, China.
