Chinese Journal of Primary Medicine and Pharmacy 2009;16(3):447-448
Objective To investigate the effects and mechanism of rosiglitazone on carotid intima-media thickness(IMT)in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(DM)by carotid ultrssonography. Methods Fifty-nine patienta with obese DM were divided into two groups randomly:patients in control group(n=29)received routine therapy.and patients in treatment group(n=30)received rosiglitzone with routine therapy for 24 months.Carotid IMT was measured by carotid ultrasonography pre-and post-therapy.The level of ma-trix metalloproteinase-9(MMPO)and C-reactive protein(CRP)were assayed. Results Compared with control group, the IMT was decreased following irosiglitazone therapy(P<0.05).The concentrations of MMP-9 and CRP in patients in the treatment group were (253.4±97.5)ng/L and(1.15±0.96)mg/L,and those in the control group were(361.8±101.7)ng/L and (2.18±2.01)mg/L,which were significantly impmved. Conclusion Rosiglitazone could retard atherosclerosis progression in obese patients with type 2 DM which was achieved through improving MMP-9 and CRP.
2.Microglia in pathogenesis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
Academic Journal of Second Military Medical University 1982;0(02):-
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a chronic neurodegenerative disorder characterized by selective death of motor neurons and progressive paralysis. Many hypotheses have been proposed to explain its pathogenesis. In recent years, one of the most studied hypotheses was the inflammatory response accompanying the motor neuron death. Microglia and its interactions with motor neurons play important roles in the development and progression of the inflammatory responses and the disease itself, which results in different new and potent therapeutic strategies of great clinical value.

Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 1987;0(02):-
We investigated the release of superxide anion ( O2- ) in human granulocytes stimulated by leukocyte factor ( LF ) and/or concan-avalin A ( Con A ). Some amount of O2- can be released by granulocytes, when LF or Con A was applied alone. The pretreat-ment of granulocytes with a low concentration LF1 potentiated O2-release in granulocytes stimulated by Con A, and the lag time of O2-release was reduced. The results show that the granulocytes were activated by LF. This phenomenon may be related to the curative effects of LF.

Objective To investigate the effect of Shenfuhuang injection (SFH Injection) on function of organs and mortality of septic rats, using a sepsis mode by cecal ligation puncture(CLP). Methods 140 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups: normal control group, sham operation group, CLP group (being further divided into 2, 8, 24, 48 h subgroups), SFH injection treatment group (being further divided into 2, 8, 24, 48 h subgroups, drug were inraveous injected just after operation and per 12 h). The mortality of animals and altering organ’s function were observed within 7 days. Results Compared to CLP model, mortality of Septic rats in SFH injection group was significant lower, and the treatment prolonged survival duration. SFH Injection group owned lower numerical values of ALT, AST, BUN and Cr in serum. Conclusion SFH Injection can obviously decline the mortality of septic rats and play an important role in protecting organ function.

Objective To evaluate the effect of Shenfuhuang injection (SFH) on tissue and plasma TNF-? level and multiple organ dysfunction in septic rats. Method Wistar rats were subjected to sepsis by ceral ligation and puncture, then they were randomly divided into four groups, normal control, sham operation grop, septic group, SFH group. Animals were sacrificed at 2, 8, 24, 48 h. TNF-? level of lung, liver and plasma were measured. DAO activity was determined. Result TNF-? level of liver, lung and plasma were markedly increased at 2~8 h post-CLP compared with sham operation group. In SFH group, TNF-? level decreased in different degrees. DAO activity was much lower in SFH group than in CLP group at 2, 8 h. Conclusion Early applying of SFH could markedly inhibit TNF-? level of vital organs and injury of intestine, thereby preventing the development of excessive inflammation response and subsequent multiple organ dysfunction syndrome associated with CLP-induced sepsis.

Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of control and prevention of iodine deficiency disorders(IDD) in Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. Methods According to the national requirement and the situation of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, thirty sampling units were selected by the“probability proportionate to size” method; one school was chosen in each sampling unit; forty children (half male half female) aged 8 - 10 years old were chosen in each school. Family salt samples were collected to detect salt iodine content, and the goiter was determined. Twelve children(half male half female) from the 40 children were selected; urine samples were collected to detect urinary iodine content. Twenty fifth-grade children in each school and five housewives around each school were selected, and the survey of health education knowledge was conducted. Salt iodine was measured using direct titration (GB/T 13025.7-1999);the volume of thyroid was detected by ultrasound ( WS 276-2007 ); urinary iodine was measured by arsenic Ce catalytic spectrophotometry method (WS/T 107-2006). Results A total of 1 195 household salt samples were tested. The mean of salt iodine was (30.91 ± 6.99)mg/kg;the coverage rate of iodized salt was 97.49%(1 165/ 1 195);the qualified rate of iodized salt was 98.54%(1 148/1 165); and the consumption rate of qualified iodized salt was 96.07%(1 148/1 195). Twelve hundred and twenty children aged 8-10 years old were examined;forty-two goiters were examined;and goiter rate was 3.44%. Four hundred and seven urine samples were tested, the median of urinary iodine was 235.31 μg/L;< 50 μg/L accounted for 1.47%(6/407); and 50 - < 100 μg/L accounted for 6.63%(27/407). The awareness rates of IDD health education knowledge of the fifth-grade students and housewives were 84.39%(1 519/1 800) and 84.44%(380/450), respectively. Conclusion The level of IDD control and prevention in Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps has been up to the national standard of eliminating IDD.
