MicroRNAs are endogenously expressed non-coding RNAs, which are composed of approximately 18 nucleotides to 25 nucleotides. Mature microRNAs regulate gene expression by base pairing with the 3'-untranslated region of target mRNAs. These mature microRNAs can degrade target mRNAs or inhibit translation. This process is a type of post-transcriptional regulation of gene ex-pression. Studies have shown that microRNAs are important in physiological and pathological processes, such as cell proliferation, cell differentiation, and cell death. This article provides an overview of the function of microRNAs in the regulation of macrophages.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of laparoscopic first-stage Fowler-Stephens for high cryptorchidism. Methods Seven children with high cryptorchidism (10 testes) were enrolled in this study. After detecting the testicles under a laparoscope, we dissected the spermatic cord vessels. Then, the spermatic duct was separated, and the gubernaculum testis was retained. Afterwards, the first-stage orchidopexy was performed laparoscopically. Results Nine of the 10 testes were successfully placed into the scrotum by first-stage Fowler-Stephens. In one patient who had bilateral cryptorchidism, the left testis was placed into the scrotum at the second stage operation. The seven patients were followed up for 6-24 months (mean, 14 months). None of them had retraction or atrophy of the testis. Conclusions Laparoscopic first-stage Fowler-Stephens is effective for high cryptorchidism. The procedure is worth being widely used.

Journal of Third Military Medical University 1988;0(05):-
Objective To study the potential effect of verapamil for the early changes of L-type calcium channel ?1c and potassium channel Kv4.3 in a rapid paced primary cultured atrial myocyte model for atrial fibrillation. Methods Primary rat atrial myocytes were cultured and established a rapid paced primary cultured atrial myocyte model. Atrial cells were divided into four groups: control group, rapid pacing group, verapamil with rapid pacing group and verapamil without rapid pacing group. Durations of rapid pacing were 24 h. The mRNA and protein expressions of L-type calcium channel ?1c and potassium channel Kv4.3 were measured by RT-PCR and Western blotting respectively. Results It was found that 24 h pacing significantly reduced mRNA and protein expressions of L-type calcium channel ?1c and potassium channel Kv4.3 as compared to controls (P0.05). Conclusion Expressions of L-type calcium channel ?1c and potassium channel Kv4.3 were reduced in the rapid pacing atrial myocytes, suggesting ion channel remodeling of atrial myocytes. However, verapamil can attenuate the progression of ion channel remodeling of atrial myocytes at least in early phase.

Chinese Journal of Anesthesiology 2011;31(2):211-213
Objective To investigate the effect of injection of air into the epidural space on the subarachnoid puncture during the combined spinal-epidural anesthesia (CSEA) .Methods Two hundred and ten ASA Ⅰ or Ⅱ parturients who were at full term with a singleton fetus, aged 20-42 yr, weighing 57-82 kg (height 152-170cm) , undergoing cesarean section under CSEA, were randomly divided into 3 groups ( n = 70 each) : hanging drop technique group (group Ⅰ ) and injection of small volume of air group (group Ⅱ ) and injection of large volume of air group ( group Ⅲ ) . The epidural space was indentified using hanging drop technique in group Ⅰ and using loss of resistance to air technique in Ⅱ and Ⅲ groups. Injection of air was stopped as soon as the clear loss of resistance identified the epidural space in group Ⅱ , whereas all 4 ml of air was injected in group Ⅲ . After the epidural space was confirmed at L3,4 interspace, a 25-gauge spinal needle protruding 14 mm beyond the 18-gauge epidural needle was introduced through the epidural needle. Subarachnoid placement was confirmed by backflow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) . If no backflow of CSF was observed, the spinal needle was withdrawn and an epidural catheter was inserted through the epidural needle to perform epidural anesthesia. Successful subarachnoid puncture, failures to observe backflow of CSF and adverse reactions were recorded. Results The three groups were comparable with respect to age, height, body weight and gestation weeks. The success rate of subarachnoid puncture was 91% ,93% and 79% in Ⅰ ,Ⅱ and Ⅲ groups respectively, and it was significantly higher in Ⅰ and Ⅱ groups than in group Ⅲ ( P < 0.05) . There was no significant difference in the success rate of subarachnoid puncture between Ⅰand Ⅱ groups ( P > 0.05) . Bilateral segmental analgesia presented in all cases who received only epidural anesthesia after no backflow of CSF was observed, and the expected analgesia also presented in all cases in whom back flow of CSF was observed. No adverse reactions occurred. Conclusion Injection of air into the epidural space is related to the success of subarachnoid puncture during CSEA and injection of a large volume of air lowers the success rate.
