The aim of this study was to propose an algorithm for three-dimensional projection onto convex sets (3D POCS) to achieve super resolution reconstruction of 3D lung computer tomography (CT) images, and to introduce multi-resolution mixed display mode to make 3D visualization of pulmonary nodules. Firstly, we built the low resolution 3D images which have spatial displacement in sub pixel level between each other and generate the reference image. Then, we mapped the low resolution images into the high resolution reference image using 3D motion estimation and revised the reference image based on the consistency constraint convex sets to reconstruct the 3D high resolution images iteratively. Finally, we displayed the different resolution images simultaneously. We then estimated the performance of provided method on 5 image sets and compared them with those of 3 interpolation reconstruction methods. The experiments showed that the performance of 3D POCS algorithm was better than that of 3 interpolation reconstruction methods in two aspects, i.e., subjective and objective aspects, and mixed display mode is suitable to the 3D visualization of high resolution of pulmonary nodules.

OBJECTIVE:
To explore the relationship of the local recurrence with the expression of protein Survivin and MMP-2 in the primary lesions and the surgical margins of laryngeal carcinoma.
METHOD:
The primary lesions and the surgical margins of laryngeal carcinoma of 48 patients were made into serial sections. Immunochemical methods was used to detect the expression of protein Survivin and MMP-2 in the primary lesion and the surgical margins of laryngeal carcinoma of 48 patients.
RESULT:
The positive expression for Survivin and MMP-2 in the primary lesion was 70.83% (34/48) and 66.67% (32/48) respectively, and the positive expression of Survivin and MMP-2 in the surgical margins of laryngeal carcinoma was 47.92% (23/48) and 37.50% (18/48), which in the primary lesion was significantly higher than those of the surgical margins of laryngeal carcinoma (P < 0.05). The recurrence rates of primary lesion positive for Survivin (34 cases) and MMP-2 (32 cases) were 26.47% (9/34) and 25.00% (8/32), which were higher than negative for them 7.14%(1/14) and 12.50% (2/16) (P > 0.05). The recurrence rates of those with Survivin (23 cases) and MMP-2 (18 cases) positive surgical margins were 34.78% (8/23) and 38.89% (7/18) respectively, which were significantly higher than those with negative ones 8.00% (2/25) and 10.00% (3/30) (P < 0.05). Logistic analysis showed that the expression of Survivin and MMP-2 protein in the surgical margins of laryngeal carcinoma was positively associated with the recurrence rates.
CONCLUSION
Laryngeal carcinoma patients with Survivin-positive or MMP-2-positive margin would have a higher recurrence rate. Survivin and MMP-2 protein can be used as biomarkers for local recurrence of laryngeal carcinoma after operation.

Objective To explore the diagnostic value of ultrasonography of fetal congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation of the lung (CCAM), and to predict the prognosis according to ultrasonographic findings. Methods The chest of 19 fetus with CCAM was multi-sectionally scanned with two-dimensional ultrasonography. The position, appearance and size of mass were observed, and complications were continuously followed. Results CCAM was pathologically confirmed in 13 fetus after induced abortion. One neonatal died, while CCAM in other 5 fetus disappeared before 36 weeks. The mass of typeⅠCCAM became smaller and smaller, and eventually disappeared. The echo-free spaces in typeⅡbecame smaller and fewer, and the strong echo weakened to the same level as normal lung. For type Ⅲ, the echo of solid mass weakened to the same level as normal lung, or transformed to typeⅡ gradually, and finally recovered to normal echo of lung as the gestational age increased. During follow up, there were 10 fetus (10/19, 52.63%) that lung adenoma cyst increased with the gestational age increased, and the heart, mediastinal shifted, pleural effusion, and (or) fetal edema were observed. Conclusion Ultrasound examination is a reliable method for the diagnosis of CCAM, and enable to predict the prognosis of the affected fetuses. If heart and mediustinum displacement, pleural effusion, hydrops fetal or other abnormalities exist, it's necessary to terminate the pregnancy.

Objective:To investigate the effects of body mass index (BMI) levels at different baseline on the risk of new-onset acute pancreatitis (AP).Methods:The subjects were from the Kailuan Study Cohort and divided into 3 groups according to baseline BMI levels: BMI<24 kg/m 2, normal weight; BMI 24-28 kg/m 2, overweight; BMI≥28 kg/m 2, obesity. The incidence of new-onset AP in these three groups was analyzed. The survival curve was plotted by Kaplan-Meier method, the cumulative incidence was calculated and tested by log-rank method. Multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to calculate HR of baseline BMI levels for AP. Results:A total of 123 841 subjects were included and followed up for (11.94±2.13) years, during which, 395 cases were found with AP. The incidence of AP was 2.67 per 10 000 person years in total population, and the incidences of AP were 2.20, 2.72 and 3.58 per 10 000 person-years in the normal, overweight and obesity groups, respectively. The cumulative incidences of AP was 0.32%, 0.40% and 0.49% in normal, overweight and obesity groups, respectively, which showed a significant inter-group difference by log-rank test ( χ2=13.17, P<0.01). The results of multivariable adjusted Cox proportional hazards regression model analysis indicated that obesity group ( HR=1.45, 95% CI: 1.10-1.92) had a higher risk for AP compared with the normal BMI group. The subgroup analyses by age and sex showed that compared with the normal weight group, the HRs for AP in the obesity group was 1.58(95% CI:1.14-2.19) and 1.40(95% CI:1.03-1.90) among subjects younger than 60 years old and male subjects, respectively. After excluded onset AP within two years from baseline, with a control group from normal weight, the results of multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression model analysis indicated that the AP in the obesity group was 1.60 (95% CI: 1.18-2.15). Conclusion:Obesity may increase the risk of developing AP, particularly among young and middle-aged men.

Chinese president Xi Jinping made clear at the National Health and Wellness Conference that health is the prerequisite for people's all-around development and a precondition for the sustainable development of China. Oral health is an indispensable component of overall health in humans. However, the long neglect of oral health in overall health agendas has made oral diseases an increasing concern. With this perspective, we described the global challenges of oral diseases, with an emphasis on the challenges faced by China. We also described and analyzed the recently released health policies of the Chinese government, which aim to guide mid-term and long-term oral health promotion in China. More importantly, we called for specific actions to fulfill the larger goal of oral health for the nation. The implementation of primordial prevention efforts against oral diseases, the integration of oral health into the promotion of overall health, and the management of oral diseases in conjunction with other chronic non-communicable diseases with shared risk factors were highly recommended. In addition, we suggested the reform of standard clinical residency training, the development of domestic manufacturing of dental equipment and materials, the revitalization traditional Chinese medicine for the prevention and treatment of oral diseases, and integration of oral health promotion into the Belt and Road Initiative. We look forward to seeing a joint effort from all aspects of the society to fulfill the goal of Healthy China 2030 and ensure the oral health of the nation.

Bone remodelling keeps going through the lifespan of human by bone formation and bone resorption. In the craniofacial region, mandibles act as the main force for biting and chewing, and also become susceptible to a common bone-loss disease, namely, apical periodontitis, once infected dental pulp is not treated timely, during which bone resorption occurs from the apical foramen to the apical bone area. Although conventional root canal treatment (RCT) can remove the most of the infection, chronical apical periodontitis due to incomplete removal of dental pulp and subsequent microleakage will become refractory and more challenging, and this process has scarcely been specifically studied as a bone remodelling issue in rat models. Therefore, to study chronical and refractory apical periodontitis owing to incomplete cleaning of infected dental pulp and microleackage in vivo, we establish a modified rat model of gradually progressive apical periodontitis by sealing residual necrotic dental pulp and introducing limited saliva, which simulates gradually progressive apical periodontitis, as observed in the clinical treatment of chronical and refractory apical periodontitis. We show that bone-loss is inevitable and progressive in this case of apical periodontitis, which confirms again that complete and sound root canal treatment is crucial to halt the progression of chronical and refractory apical periodontitis and promote bone formation. Interestingly, bone remodelling was enhanced at the initial stage of apical periodontitis in this model while reduced with a high osteoblast number afterwards, as shown by the time course study of the modified model. Suggesting that the pathological apical microenvironment reserve its hard tissue formation ability to some degree but in a disturbed manner. Hopefully, our findings can provide insights for future bone regenerative treatment for apical periodontitis-associated bone loss.

Proteases are important molecules that are involved in many physiological and pathological processes of the human body, such as growth, apoptosis and metastasis cancer cells. They are potential targets in cancer diagnosis and biotherapy. In this study, we analyzed the salivary protease spectrum of patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), oral benign masses and chronic periodontitis, as well as that of health, using human protease array kits, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, western blot and immunofluorescence. The salivary protease spectrum was found to be associated with oral diseases. For example, the saliva of patients with OSCC contained increased numbers of proteases than those of other oral diseases and health. The levels of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-1, MMP-2, MMP-10, MMP-12, A disintegrin and metalloprotease (ADAM)9, A disintegrin and metalloprotease with thrombospondin type 13 motifs (ADAMST13), cathepsin V and kallikrein 5 in the saliva of patients with OSCC were significantly increased compared with those of other groups. Taking MMP-1, cathepsin V, kallikrein 5 and ADAM9 as biomarkers of OSCC, cutoff values were199, 11.34, 9.29 and 202.55 pg·mL, respectively. From the area under the curve, sensitivity and specificity, the combination of cathepsin V/kallikrein5/ADAM9 was an optimal biomarker for diagnosing OSCC. Thus, analysis of the salivary protease spectrum may be an innovative and cost-efficient approach to evaluating the health status of the oral cavity. Specifically, increases in cathepsin V, kallikrein 5 and ADAM9 may be useful biomarkers in the screening and diagnosis of OSCC.
