OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of Shenqi Fuzheng Injection (SFI) for hemopoietic and immune function reconstruction in patients with hematologic malignancies (HM) after chemotherapy.
METHODSEighty HM patients at remission inducing stage of initial treatment were randomly assigned to two groups, the treatment group treated with SFI (250 mL daily) plus chemotherapy and the control group only treated with chemotherapy for 14 days, with same supportive treatments administered to both. Levels of blood routine test, T lymphocyte subsets (CD3+, CD4+, CD4+ /CD8+) and B lymphocyte subsets CD3- CD19+ were determined before and after treatment, and the remission rate was assessed after treatment.
RESULTSThe remission rates in the two groups showed no significant difference [90% (36/40) vs 82.5% (33/40), P > 0.05] statistically. Levels of peripheral leucocyte count and hemoglobin as well as levels of CD3+, CD4+, CD4+ /CD8+; were significantly higher in the treatment group than in the control group (P < 0.05), but no significant difference was shown between groups in CD3- CD19+ level.
CONCLUSIONSFI can lighten the inhibition of chemotherapy on hemopoietic function of bone marrow, and promote its recovery, enhance the immune function, and improve the quality of life in patients with HM undergoing chemotherapy.

BACKGROUND: Huperzine A is a reversible cholinesterase inhibitor extracted initially by China from huperzia serrata,a Chinese herb. Its mechanism in improving choline function and ameliorating cognitive state of patients with dementia is to increase acetylcholine (Ach) concentration in neural synapse through impeding the hydrolysis of acetylcholinesterase.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of huperzine A on the improvement of cognitive function of patients with Alzheimer disease (AD).DESIGN: A randomized controlled study based on patients.SETTING: Second internal department of neurology in a general hospital of military area command of Chinese PLA.PARTICIPANTS: Totally 69 AD patients hospitalized in the Second Department of Neurology,General Hospital of Jinan Military Area Command of Chinese PLA between March 2000 and December 2003 were allocated into huperzine A group( n = 38,male,aged between 68 and84 years old, average age of 76 years old) and control group( n = 31,male,aged between 68 and 80years old, average age of 74 years old) according to the wills of the patients.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Positive expression percentage of Fas,Apo2.7 and Bcl-2 on platelet membrane and the integral of mini-mental state examination(MMSE),Hasegawa' s dementia scale(HDS) and activities of daily living (ADL) of two groups after therapy.RESULTS: The positive expression of Fas,Apo2.7 or Bcl-2 on peripheral platelet membrane after therapy in huperzine A group were (2.23 ± 0.49)%,(2.37 ±0. 36)%,or(2.01 ±0. 32)% respectively, which was significantly lower than(3.12 ± 0. 74)%,(2. 83 ± 0.67)% or (2. 59 ± 0. 54)% of control group ( P < 0.01). The prognostic integral of MMSE,HDS or ADL of huperzine A group was 20.45 ±4. 14,21.39 ±4.89,or 36. 15 ±5.11,which was significantly higher or lower than that of the control group(15.76 ± 3.23,17.32 ±2.09,4.26 ±7.21)(P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: HuperzineA actually can effectively improve the memory and cognitive function of AD,and effectively improve ADL as well.

Objective To evaluate the effects of a health education project on endemic fluorosis in Shandong Province, and to provide a basis for formulating control strategies. Methods From December 2010 to June 2011,according to historical conditions,a total of 19 counties (cities, districts) of Shandong Province were chosen, and 3 townships (towns) were chosen in each project county.Health educational activities on endemic fluorosis were carried out in the Central Primary School in grade 4 to 6 in each township(town). In each project township(town),3 villages were chosen in each selected township(town) where the health educational activities in the community were carried out. Before and after the health educational activities, surveys on knowledge questionnaire on drinking-water-borne fluorosis control were conducted among 30 students of grade 5 in the Central Primary School and 15 housewives in every school location in each selected township(town). Results After the health educational activities, the knowledge awareness rates of endemic fluorosis control of the students and housewives were 96.53% (5482/5679) and 94.88% (3501/3690),respectively,and increased significantly compared with those before intervention [62.31% (5154/8271) and 76.91% (2815/3660)],and the difference was statistically significant (x2 =2176.50,490.58,all P < 0.01).Among the primary school students and housewives, the knowledge awareness rates of endemic fluorosis control were increased by 34.22% and 17.97%,respectively.Conclusions Health education activities on endemic fluorosis can significantly improve the knowledge awareness of target population, which will play a positive role in promoting prevention and control of endemic fluorosis.

A rare strain of actinomycetes, with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, was isolated from the soil samples from the farmland in the area of Yaohu lake in Nanchang. The information about the taxonomic identification, such as the morphology, physiological properties, cell components and 16S rRNA gene se-quences, suggested that the rare strain of actinomycetes was identified as Micromonospora carbonacea.

Microbiology 2008;0(09):-
Based on the strain of Micromonospora carbonacea JXNU-1 with board-spectrum antimicrobial activity, the technology for the isolation and purification of antibiotic from the fermentation broth of the Micromonospora carbonacea, and its physical-chemical properties were studied. The results showed that, the antibiotic was stable under the condition of high temperature and alkali, but not in acid solution. After the pretreatment of centrifugation and filtration to remove the cells and lipids, the antibiotic was absorbed to negative exchange resin, and the impurity was excluded when 2 mol/L NaCl was used as primary eluent. The antibiotic could be eluted with 20% alcohol as eluent, and the eluting speed of the antibiotic was greatly accelerated as 2 mol/L NaCl was added into 20% alcohol as final eluent. Aqueous solution of the antibiotic was yielded from the alcohol-salt eluant by decompression concentration to wipe off alcohol and by dialysis to exclude salt. One active component was detected in antibiotic solution by paper chromatography, and theHPLC purity was over 99%. As the antibiotic shows positive color-forming reaction to Molish reagents, Benedict’s reagents and Diohenvlamine reagents, combined with the characteristics of absorption spectra, it is deduced that the antibiotic belongs to nucleoside antibiotics.

Microbiology 2008;0(10):-
Advances in mechanism and application of the heating effect in breeding of microorganism are reviewed in this paper. Heat produces mutagenesis effect and screening effect. Heating mutagenesis effect is occurred through the substitution of G-C base pair induced by heat, and heating screening effect produces higher forward mutation rate induced by other mutagens.

Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2006;12(10):855-857
ObjectiveTo study normal gait characteristics of healthy adults in different age groups.Methods90 healthy adults were divided into three groups according to their ages. It was 20~39 year group, 40~59 year group and 60~70 year group. They received a gait analysis with the gait analysis system based on digital video and image processing which could provide temporal-spatial parameters and kinematic parameters. The gait data of the three groups were compared. Relationships between gait speed and other gait parameters were investigated.ResultsThere were statistically significant differences in some parameters among three groups. Gait speed was significantly correlated with stride time, stride length, stance time (%), cadence, maximum flexion of hip and knee in swing phase.ConclusionThe normal gait patterns of healthy adult established with the gait analysis system based on digital video and image processing can be used as the base line to compare with abnormal gait.
