Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 1992;0(05):-
Objective To study the protective effect of total flavones of hawthorn leaf (TFHL) on renal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) in rats. Methods A model of renal I/R was made by clamping double renal pedical for 60 min and reperfusion for 24 h.TFHL (30 or 60 mg/kg) was injected before clamping renal ischemia. The level of serum urea nitrogen(BUN), serum creatinine(Scr), tumor necrosis factor-?(TNF-?),interleukin-1(IL-1) in serum were detected after reperfusion for 1 and 24 h,respectively, and the level of malonaldehyde (MDA) and erythrocuprein (SOD) in renal tissues were measured after reperfusion for 24 h.Results TFHL significantly decreased the level of BUN and Scr, decreased the concentration of TNF-? and IL-1 in serum. Pretreatment with TFHL also enhanced the activity of SOD reduced the concentration of MDA in renal after I/R.Conclusions TFHL has significantly protective effect on renal I/R and markedly improve the renal function. The mec-hanisms are associated with decreasing the lipid peroxidation reaction and reducing the level of TNF-? and IL-1.
4.Enhancement of IL-1β-induced expression of αvβ3 integrin by nicotine in cultured bovine cerebral microvascular endothelial cells
Journal of Southern Medical University 2001;21(4):266-268
Objective To study the effect of nicotine on the expression of αvβ3 integrin in cultured neonatal bovine cerebral microvascular endothelial cells (BCMEC). Methods Flow cytometry was utilized to determine the cell ratio of in vitro cultured neonatal BCMECs adhesive to rat monocytes (MN), after the former were treated with nicotine prior to the incubation with MNs. The effect of niocotine on αvβ3 expression in BCMEC was observed with ELISA. Results In response to 10-5 mol/L ni cotine pretreatment, the adhesive cell ratio of BCMECs to MNs was increased (P<0.05) and enhanced αvβ3 expression was observed, in comparison with those when nicotine of lower concentrations were administered. In contrast, more obvious increase in the adhesive cell ratio and αvβ3 expression was observed when the pretreatment protocol with nicotine (10-7~10-5 mol/L) and IL-1β was adopted, and the effect of nicotine was concentration-dependent. The endothelial adhesion to MNs induced by nicotine and IL-β was obviously blocked by anti-αvβ3 integrin Ab. Conclusion Nicotine may increase the expression of αvβ3 integrin in BCMEC.

OBJECTIVETo explore the imaging characteristics and operation outcomes of intramedullary schwannoma in thoracolumbar spine.
METHODSFrom June 2005 to December 2012,17 patients with intramedullary schwannoma in thoracolumbar spine were operated through posterior approach, including 11 males and 6 females with an average age of 53 years old ranging from 46 to 67 years old. The courses of disease ranged from 3 to 5 years (averaged 3.3 years). Thoracic patients manifested chest and back pain, numbness and inability on lower limb gradually, unsteady gait. Lumbar patients manifested low back pain, radiating pain and numbness on lower limb, intermittent claudication. Preoperative VAS score was 5 to 8 with an average of 6.12. Eleven patients suffered from never injury, 4 cases were grade C, 5 cases were grade D and 2 cases were grade E according to Frankel classification. Three patients were injured on thoracic segments, 5 patients were on thoracolumbar segments, 3 patients on lumbar segments and 6 patients on lumbosacral segment confirmed by CT and MRI. Five patients were epidural, 12 were intradural extramedullary. Six patients underwent spinal decompression and tumor resection simply, eleven patients underwent spinal decompression, tumor resection, internal fixation and bone graft fusion.
RESULTSNo injury of blood vessel or spinal cord occurred during operation, cutting healed well. All patients were followed up from 12 to 60 months with an average of 32 months. Chest and back pain, low back pain, radiating pain and numbness on lower limb were improved significantly. VAS score at final follow-up was 0 to 3 (averaged 1.5). According to Frankel classification, 5 cases were grade D, and 6 cases were grade E at final follow-up.
CONCLUSIONMRI is an effective method in diagnosis of intramedullary schwannoma in thoracolumbar spine. Operative method is choosed by imaging expression, and the aim is effectively decompression of spine, reconstruction of stability of spine.

Bufalin is an active compound of the traditional Chinese medicine Chansu, which exhibits significant anti-tumor activities in many solid tumors and leukemia cell lines. Bufalin could introduce apoptosis, reverse drug-resistance, and prevent migration and invasion of tumor cells. This paper reviewed the latest research progress of the in vitro and in vivo anti-tumor effect and mechanism of bufalin on a series of cancers, such as hepatocellular carcinoma, lung cancer, colon cancer, gastric cancer, leukemia, bladder cancer, and its formulation study is also summarized for the reference of its further study and application.

Chinese Journal of Nephrology 2011;27(7):484-487
Objective To study the association between Mycoplasma penetrans (Mpe) infection and clinicopathology of IgA nephropathy (IgAN). Methods Blood samples of 118 IgAN patients, 90 patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and 89 healthy people were collected. Mpe DNA in serum was detected by PCR and positive samples were confirmed by Southern blotting. According to Mpe infection, IgAN patients were divided into positive and negative groups. Association between clinicopatholgical features of IgAN and Mpe infection was examined. Results Significantly higher Mpe positive rate was found in IgAN group as compared to CKD and healthy groups (16.0% vs 2.2% and 1.1%, P<0.01). In Mpe positive group, 42.1% patients presented macroscopic hematuria, which was significantly higher than that in Mpe negative group (P<0.01). While Mpe negative group had greater proteinuria, higher serum creatinine level, higher Lee grading of pathology compared to Mpe positive group. There were no differences of tubulointerstitial lesions and arteriole hypertrophy between two groups. Conclusions IgAN patients have higher Mpe infection rate than CKD patients and healthy people. Mpe positive IgAN patients have more macroscopic hematuria. Mpe infection may be associated with the pathogenesis of IgAN.
