Objective To study the values of quantitative assessment of extraocular muscles in diagnosing the thyroid associated ophthalmopathy(TAO).Methods The maximum section area,short and long diameters of extraocular muscles on orbital coronal CT were measured and the value of R was calculated in 50 healthy persons and 50 patients with TAO.Results The maximum section areas of 228 extraocular muscles in 50 patients with TAO increased,of them,inferior rectus(30.3%) and mediate rectus muscle(23.2%) were common,followed by superior rectus,lateral rectus and superior oblique muscle.Their maximum section areas(70.21 mm2,56.93 mm2,64.06 mm2,58.51 mm2,20.65 mm2,respectively) and the values of R(0.61,0.55,0.61,0.50,0.52,respectively) were larger than that in healthy group(27.72 mm2,27.07 mm2,26.93 mm2,36.74 mm2,9.42 mm2 respectively in maximum section areas) and(0.41,0.35,0.60,0.34,0.44 in the values of R,respectively).There were statistical significant differents between them.Conclusion The quantitative coronal CT measurement,especially the values of R can assess enlargement of extraocular muscles accurately,which may be helpful in diagnosis of TAO.

Objective To find out the consumption situation of iodized salt in Baotou, identify problems and take appropriate intervention measures, and to provide scientific basis for further consolidating the results of control measures, strengthening and improving the sustainable elimination of iodine deficiency disorders. Methods Three batches of each quarter, 54 salt samples were sampled in Donghe wholesale division and Qingkun wholesale division in Baotou city salt company during 2008 - 2010; each place of Damaoqi, Baiyun district, and Qingshan district were divided into five sampling areas according to the direction of east, west, south, north, and central position, one school was selected in each district, 30 students aged 8 to 10 from each school were selected, and home salt samples were taken, and salt iodine was tested by direct titration(GB/T 13025.7-1999). Results Qualified rate of wholesale iodized salt was 100%(378/378) during 2008 - 2010, and mean salt iodine was 30.4 mg/kg;qualified rate of household iodized salt was 99.8%(2417/2421 ), and mean salt iodine was 30.4 mg/kg; iodized salt coverage rate was 99.6% (2421/2430) and consumption rate of qualified iodized salt was 99.4% (2417/2430).Conclusions Qualified rate of iodized salt, coverage rate of qualified iodized salt and consumption rate of qualified iodized salt are 90% or more, which has reached the standard of sustainable elimination of iodine deficiency disorders.

Objective To observe the effect of Kangnaoye on angiogene-sis in rats after focal cerebral ischemia reperfusion.Methods The male SD rats were randomly divided into 6 groups: sham operation group , model group, Kangnaoye high, middle and low dosages groups (24,12,6 g· kg -1· d-1), and nimodipine group(1 mg· kg -1· d -1).The mod-els of cerebral ischemia reperfusion were established in rats by methods of middle cerebral artery occlusion ( MCAO).Immunohistochemical method was used to observe the change of the microvessel density ( MVD ) after cerebral ischemic and the expression of vascular endothelial growth ( VEG), HGF and CD31 protein of rats which were killed at the 0.5, 3, and 7 d of reperfusion injury respectively 2 h after cerebral ischemia.The nervous function deficit scores were evaluated at the 2 , 24 , and 48 h af-ter reperfusion.Results Compared with model group , the neurological behavior performance in Nimodipine and Kangnaoye treatment groups were significantly improved , with an increased number of MVD , and en-hanced vascular endothelial growth factor ( VEGF) and hepatocyte growth factor( HGF) protein levels ( P<0.05 or P<0.01 ) , especially in the Kangnaoye middle dosage group.Conclusion Kangnaoye has neuropro-tective effect against focal cerebral ischemic injury by improving the ex-pression of VEGF and HGF , which is one of possible anti -ischemic mechanisms.

We present a rare case of colonic metastasis of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and review the literature.A 54-year-old male was referred to our hospital with a history of bloody stools and fever.A dght kidney tumor measuring about 10 cm in diameter was found by abdominal computed tomography.Right radical nephrectomy and a right hemicolectomy with ileotransversostomy were performed.Pathological diagnosis was chromophobe RCC with sarcomotoid change involving the colon.Chromophobe RCC with sarcomotoid change is very rare.

ObjectiveTo investigate the expression of programmed death receptor ligand 1 ( PD-L1 ) of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) in patients with hepatic cystic echincccccosis (HCE) and its relation with interferon-γ.MethodsThe clinical data of 63 patients with HCE who were admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from June 2010 to February 2011 were retrospectively analyzed.All patients were divided into HCE active group (38 patients) and HCE non-active group (25 patients) according to the system established by the World Health Organization's Informal Working Group on Echinocoecosis.Twenty patients with hepatic hemangioma or healthy individuals were recruited in normal control group.The positive rate of PD-L1 expression was detected by flow cytometry and immunocytochemistry.The expression of interferon-γ was detected by enzyme-linked immtmosorbent assay (ELISA).All data were analyzed by the t test,one-way analysis of variance,LSD test and chi-square test.The relationship between the expression of interferon-γ and positive rate of PD-L1 expression was analyzed by the Pearson test.ResultsThe results of flow cytometry showed that the positive rates of PD-L1 expression in the HCE active group,HCE non-active group and normal control group were 12.1％±3.8％,10.9％ ± 2.5％ and 9.1％ ±2.5％,respectively.There was a significant difference in the positive rate of PD-L1 expression between the HCE active group and normal control group (t =3.327,P ＜ 0.05 ).The results of immunohistochemistry showed that the positive rates of PD-LI expression in the HCE active group,HCE non-active group and normal control group were 11.9％ ± 3.4％,i0.6％ ± 2.9％ and 9.5％ ± 3.6％,respectively.There was a significant difference in the positive rate of PD-L1 expression between the HCE active group and normal control group (t =2.470,P ＜ 0.05 ).The expressions of intefferon-γ in the HCE active group,HCE non-active group and normal control group were ( 141 ± 38 ) μμg/L,( 124 ± 32 ) μg/L and ( 105 ± 42 ) μg/L.There wasasignificant difference in the expression of interferon-γ between the HCE active group and normal control group ( t =3.280,P ＜ 0.05).The results of flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry revealed that the positive rate of PD-L1 expression was positively correlated with the expression of interferon-γ( r =0.59,0.61,P ＜ 0.05 ).Conclusion With the help of interferon-γ,PD-L1 may play an important role in promoting the immune.evasion of echinococcus.

Thunder-fire wonder moxibustion is one of pressing moxibustion therapies and has a very good therapeutic effect on limb pains, furuncle-carbuncle and cold syndrome. To reveal the mechanism of clinical action of ancestors’ thunder-fire wonder moxibustion and seek the physical basis of its therapeutic advantage, this study, by a series of experiments, compared heat transfer regularities of thunder-fire wonder moxibustion versus pure moxa stick in simulated biological tissues under different conditions, preliminarily revealed heat radiation and heat transfer regularities of thunder-fire wonder moxibustion, tried to find pressing strength suitable for clinical operation of pressing moxibustion and had thoughts about changes in the clinical operation of past dynasties.

Objective：To study the clinical and pathologic features of patients with lupus nephritis (LN) whose myeloperoxidase anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (MPO-ANCA) were positive. Methods：The clinical and pathological features were analyzed in 18 patients with LN whose MPO-ANCA were positive. And the data of patients with different clinical outcomes were compared. Results：（1）The hematological abnormalities, hypertension and serositis in these patients were more common than general ones with LN. （2）Proteinuria and hematuria were common, the morbidities of gross hematuria and renal failure in these patients were higher than general ones with LN.（3）Various autoantibodies were positive in these patients.（4）Segmental necrosis crescentic nephritis accompanied by density of immunocomplex in glomeruli and vasculitis in intestitium were common.（5）The morbidity of ESRF and mortality of these patients were similar to general ones with LN. The morbidity of tubular atrophy in those with poor prognosis was significantly higher than those survived. Conclusion：The patients with LN whose MPO-ANCA are positive have some difference from those with negative MPO-ANCA, but positive MPO-ANCA is not directly related to the prognosis.

OBJECTIVE: To test the technical parameters of GlobalFiler® PCR Amplification Kit for its application to forensic application value and to investigate the genetic polymorphisms. METHODS: The validation was conducted in sensitivity, mixed samples, species specificity, adaptability, survivability, consistency, peak height balance and stability. The amplification and detection of the genomic DNA from 373 unrelated individuals from Beijing Han nationality were extracted by automation workstation. RESULTS: Global-Filer® PCR Amplification Kit was adaptive to some mixed, degraded and inhibited samples. The power of sensitivity and adaptability and peak height balance showed well. The distributions of genotype frequencies for 21 STR loci in the population were all in accordance with Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (P > 0.05). The PIC value of the 21 STR loci was among 0.536 to 0.940; the H value was among 0.558 to 0.933; the DP value was among 0.783 to 0.992; the PE value was among 0.243 to 0.874. CONCLUSION GlobalFiler® PCR Amplification Kit is suitable for criminal cases and DNA database in forensic practice. And 21 STR loci in Beijing Han nationality have high polymorphism, which have application value in forensic practice and population genetics.

Objective To investigate the influential factors on the effectiveness of the first 131I ablation therapy on thyroid remnant and of 131I treatment on metastatic lesions in differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) patients. Methods Retrospectively,46 DTC cases (divided into complete-ablation group and incomplete-ablation group) of first 131I ablation were enrolled,and 40 DTC cases (divided into remission group and in-remission group) of consecutive 131I treatments on metastatic lesions were enrolled. Influential factors were analyzed (t-test,t'-test,x2-test,Fisher exact test) and logistic regression analysis was performed. Results For the first 131I ablation effectiveness,surgical method,remnant thyroid weight,thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) level,interval between surgery and 131I ablation therapy,metastatic status were selected as influential factors (x2 = 5. 804,t' = - 5. 258,t' = 7. 376,x2 = 8. 867,x2 = 8. 615,all P ＜0. 05). After logistic regression analysis,formula was obtained as y = 3. 766 - 0. 947x1 ( remnant thyroid weight) -3. 149 x2 (lymph node metastasis) -3. 373 x3 (distant metastasis). For metastatic treatment effectiveness,remission rate of papillary DTC was higher than that of follicular DTC,remission rate of patients with lymph node metastasis was higher than that of distant metastasis,remission rate of total thyroidectomy was higher than that of other types of thyroidectomy ( Fisher exact test,x2 = 7. 278,P ＜ 0. 05 ). In remission group,serum TSH level was much higher and thyroglobulin (Tg) level was much lower before the first ablation therapy (t =4. 489,t' = -4.906,all P ＜0.01 ). After logistic regression analysis,formula was obtained as y = - 0. 363 + 0. 065 x4 ( TSH level) - 0. 250 x5 ( Tg level). Conclusions Influential factors of success rate of the first 131I ablation therapy included surgical method,remnant thyroid weight,TSH level,interval between surgery and 131I ablation therapy and metastatic status,while determinant factors were thyroid remnant weight,lymph node metastatic status and distant metastatic status. The influential factors of success rate of 131I treatment on metastatic lesions included pathological type,surgical method,metastatic status,TSH level and Tg level,while determinant factors were TSH level and Tg level before the first 131I ablation therapy.
