PEG-modified magnetic Fe3O4 (Fe3O4-PEG) nanoparticles were sythesized using a solvothermal reaction and characterized with transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA). The photothermal effect and photothermal destruction of cancer cells were evaluated. Then the doxorubicin loaded Fe3O4-PEG (DOX-Fe3O4-PEG) nanoparticles were prepared. The cytotoxicity and combined chemotherapy/photothermal therapy (PTT) effect were investigated. Uniform PEG coated Fe3O4 nanoparticles with particle size of 155 nm were obtained in the experiment. The loading and release of doxorubicin on Fe3O4-PEG were pH-dependent. The drug loading capacity in water was 21%. The results of MTT indicated a good biocompatiblity of Fe3O4-PEG nanoparticles and high cytotoxicity of DOX-Fe3O4-PEG. In combined therapy experiment, photothermal therapy demonstrated unambiguously enhanced chemotherapy efficacy. In conclusion, the obtained Fe3O4-PEG nanoparticles which exhibit good photothermal effect and drug loading capacity can be used for chemotherapy and photothermal therapy. The synergetic anti-tumor activity indicates the potential for the combined application of chemotherapy and photothermal therapy in cancer treatment.

To prepare virus-like particles containing FluA/B mRNA as RNA standard and control in Influenza RNA detection, the genes coding the coat protein and maturase of E. coli bacteriophage MS2 were amplified and cloned into D-pET32a vector. Then we inserted 6 histidines to MS2 coat protein by QuikChange Site-Directed Mutagenesis Kit to construct the universal expressing vector D-pET32a-CP-His. In addition, the partial gene fragments of FluA and FluB were cloned to the down-stream of expressing vector. The recombinant plasmid D-pET32a-CP-His-FluA/B was transformed to BL21 with induction by IPTG. The virus-like particles were purified by Ni+ chromatography. The virus-like particles can be detected by RT-PCR, but not PCR. They can be conserved stably for at least 3 months at both 4 degrees C and -20 degrees C. His-tagged virus-like particles are more stable and easier to purification. It can be used as RNA standard and control in Influenza virus RNA detection.

Objective To study the feasibility and effect of endoscopic breast conserving surgery in the treatment of early stage of breast cancer(EBC) via transaxillary small concealing incision. Methods Twenty -one cases of EBC were treated by endoscopic breast conserving surgery, combined with the lipolysis and suction of the fat in axilla, via transaxillary small incision. Results There was no cancer residue in all the resected margins of all samples confirmed by the frozen sections. The lymph nodes metastasis was found in 3 cases. The average operation time was 81.6 minutes. Subcutaneous liquid collection occurred in one case postoperatively, the liquid disappeared quickly after treatment. All patient′s had a good breast configuration. All patients were followed-up for 3.1 months to 15.6 months after operation. There were no recurrence and distant metastasis in this series. Conclusions Breast conserving surgery can be smoothly performed by a small concealing incision with endoscope. This operation has many advantages, such as the incision is small and concealing, so it can improve the patients′ quality of life. The suction of the fat in axilla makes axillary dissection easier.

Chinese Journal of Hematology 2012;33(12):994-999
OBJECTIVETo investigate the epidemiology and antibiotic resistance of isolates from hospitalized patients with hematological disease from 2005 to 2011.
METHODSA total of 1453 bacterial strains were isolated from patients with hematological disease from January 2005 to December 2011. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was performed by micro-dilution method.
RESULTS(1) The majority of the bacterial strains were respiratory passage examples (57.5%). The portage of blood examples in our division (13.60%) was higher than of whole hospital (6.26%), with lower positive rate of bacterial culture (52.37%) than of whole hospital (60.24%). Chemotherapy-induced agranulocytosis was the main reason for hospital infection. 578 (39.8%) bacterial strains were gram positive, and 875 (60.2%) gram negative bacillus. Staphylococcus epidermidis strains and glucose nonfermenters had a tendency of ascensus. (2) Methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) accounted for 72.8% antibiotic resistance. Detection rates of ESBLs in Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae were 18.9% and 10.4%, respectively. (3) No obvious changes of antimicrobial resistances of Staphylococcus and Enterococcus were observed during these years. The Enterobacteriaceae strains showed lowest resistance rates to Carbapenems, next to Cefoperazone/sulbactam and Piperacillin/tazobactam. But the resistance rates of Escherichia coli to Cefepime and Ceftazidime were gradually increasing during the past years. Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii of glucose nonfermenters showed lowest resistance rates to Cefoperazone/sulbactam, but the resistance rate of Pseudomonas aeruginosa to Carbapenems increased.
CONCLUSIONSEscherichia coli was the highest in quantity of gram negative bacillus and glucose nonfermenters had a tendency of ascensus. The resistance rates of Escherichia coli to Cefepime and Ceftazidime, Pseudomonas aeruginosa to Carbapenems were gradually increasing in the past years.
