Chinese Journal of Neurology 2005;0(08):-
Objective To investigate clinical and MRI features of the reversible posterior encephalopathy syndrome (RPES).Methods Clinical and MRI materials of 4 RPES cases confirmed by integrated clinical diagnosis were retrospectively analyzed. Results All the cases presented with a rise of blood pressure. The neural symptom include severe headache (2 cases),dysphoria (3 cases),blur of vision (2 cases),impairment of impermanent memory (1 case),seizure (2 cases). In MRI,the lesions mainly systematically located in posterior parietal lobe and occipital lobe in all cases,or randomly located in frontal lobe (2 cases).Lesions demonstrated high signal on T_2 weighed and water-suppressed sequences in MRI.The lesions dominantly located in cortex in 2 cases,in both cortex and subcortieal white matter in 1 case and in subcortical white matter in 1 case.Four cases resolved their lesions when re-examined. Conclusions RPES represents such characteristic MRI findings as symmetrical distribution of reversible lesions in posterior brain with involvement of cortex or subcortieal white matter. When combined with hypertension and neural symptoms caused by involvement of posterior brain structure,it is helpful for early differential diagnosis of this syndrome.
2.Extracelluar matrix stimulates neurite outgrowth of dorsal root ganglion neurons differently depending on whether extracted from degenerated or normal intervertebral disk
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2014;(7):1039-1044
BACKGROUND:Compared with the normal intervertebral disk, the density of nerve fibers and number of nerve endings and neuropeptides appear to be more in the degenerated intervertebral disk. However, this phenomenon does not occur in the normal y aged disk.
OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the axonal growth and induction of a painful neuropeptide and substance P using rat dorsal root ganglion neurons and degenerated human disc cells in vitro.
METHODS:The human intervertebral discs were harvested from patients with discogenic low back pain and normal people. And extracelluar matrix extracted from human degenerative intervertebral discs was cultured with rat dorsal root ganglion neurons. The promotion of axonal growth and induction of substance P of dorsal root ganglion neurons in extracted medium were evaluated through morphology observation and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, respectively.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Compared with the normal group, the content of nerve growth factor in the degenerative group was significantly higher and the average length of neuritis was significantly longer in the experimental group (P<0.05). After intervention with anti-nerve growth factorβ, the average length of neuritis became remarkably shorter. The percentage of substance P-immunoreactive cells was significantly higher in the degenerative group compared with the normal group (P<0.001). Nerve growth factors that highly express in the extracellular matrix from the degenerative intervertebral dick can promote neurite outgrowth of dorsal root ganglion neurons and induce release of neuropeptides related to pain transmission.

Knowledge Discovery in Databases is gaining attention and raising new hopes for traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) researchers. It is a useful tool in understanding and deciphering TCM theories. Aiming for a better understanding of Chinese herbal property theory (CHPT), this paper performed an improved association rule learning to analyze semistructured text in the book entitled Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica. The text was firstly annotated and transformed to well-structured multidimensional data. Subsequently, an Apriori algorithm was employed for producing association rules after the sensitivity analysis of parameters. From the confirmed 120 resulting rules that described the intrinsic relationships between herbal property (qi, flavor and their combinations) and herbal efficacy, two novel fundamental principles underlying CHPT were acquired and further elucidated: (1) the many-to-one mapping of herbal efficacy to herbal property; (2) the nonrandom overlap between the related efficacy of qi and flavor. This work provided an innovative knowledge about CHPT, which would be helpful for its modern research.
