Objective To sift out the optimized electric pulse parameters for electroacupuncture treatment for lower limb myatrophy and explore the mechanism of its treatment.Method A model of lower limb myatrophy was made in 40 SD rats.The rats were then randomized to groups A (model group without electroacupuncture), B (a pulse duration of 0.5 ms and a frequency of 2 Hz), C (a pulse duration of 200 msand a frequency of 2 Hz) and D (a pulse duration of 200 ms and a frequency of 1/2/3 Hz).Points Zusanli(ST36)and Chengshan(BL57)were given electroacupuncture for four courses of treatment.Thesciaticfunction index (SFI),gastrocnemius muscle wet weight ratio (GW), gastrocnemius muscle fiber cross-sectional area ratio (GC),gastrocnemius muscle cell diameter ratio (GD)and gastrocnemius muscle cell apoptosis index (AI)were determined.Result SFI, GW and GC increased significantly and AI decreased significantly in groups C and D compared with group A (P<0.05). AI decreased significantly in groups C and D compared with group B (P<0.05). AI decreased significantly in groups D compared with group C (P<0.05). Conclusion Apulse duration of 200 ms and a frequency of 1/2/3 Hz are the optimizedelectric pulse parametersfor electroacupuncture delaying myatrophy.Its mechanism is related to inhibiting myocyte apoptosis.

Objective To study the genetic toxicity of carbon tetrachloride for male mice and assess the potential genetic toxic effect on mankind. Methods Micronucleus test and sperm malformation test were used respectively to determine the change of micronucleus cell frequencies (MNCF) and the rate of sperm deformity of germ cell induced by carbon tetrachloride in male mice. Carbon tetrachloride was given through intraperitoneal injection at does of 5,15,25 mg/kg respectively for 24 h and 48 h, the rates of micronucleus in the bone marrow cell and sperm deformity of germ cell of male mice were investigated by counting the number of micronucleus cells per 5 000 polychromatic erythrocyte (PCE) in bone marrow and sperm deformity cells per 5 000 germ cells from male mice. Objective To investigate the correlation rs2272087 polymorphism of STATS gene and asthma.Methods The polymerase chain reaction PCR- SBT technique was used to determine rs2272087 polymorphism in asthma and control group.Results The genotype of AA,AG and GG of rs2272087 were 0.600,0.412 and 0.167 in asthma group,and 0.430,0.200,0.367 in control group,respectively.The frequency of allele A and G was 0.903 and 0.344 in asthma group,and 0.656,0.970 in control group,respectively.There was significant difference in two groups(x2 =9.40,P ＜0.01 ;x2 =11.58,P ＜0.01 ).Conclusions The rs2272087 polymorphism of STAT5 gene may be an important candidate gene for asthma.

Microglia are the principal immune effectors in brain and participate in a series ofneurodegenerative diseases. The microglial shapes are highly plastic. The morphology is closely related with their activation status and biological functions. Cerebral ischemia could induce microglial activation, and microglial activation is subjected to precise regulation. Microglia could play either protective or neurotoxic roles in cerebral ischemia. Therefore, regulating the expression of receptors or protein molecules on microglia, inhibiting the excessive activation of microglia and production of pro-inflammatory factors, promoting the release of neuroprotective substances might be beneficial to the treatment of cerebral ischemia. The study about relationship between microglia and cerebral ischemia will shed a light on the treatment of cerebral ischemia. This paper is a review of microglial activation and regulation during cerebral ischemia as well as related therapeutic methods.

Objective To investigate differentially expressed genes in the liver of rats with idio-pathic hyperoxaluria by cDNA microarray. Methods Three male rats with idiopathic hyperoxaluria were set as study group, 3 normal ones as control. Total RNA was isolated by one-step protocol from the liver of rats in the 2 groups and mRNA was purified, reversely transcribed, labeled with Cy3 or Cy5 and hybridized to gene chip containing 26 962 target genes of rat. The differences in gene expres-sion profile between the 2 groups were analyzed by bioinformatics methods. Results Comparative a-nalysis revealed that the expression of 123 genes was up-regulated and 24 genes was down-regulated by two-fold in the liver. These genes were associated with cell receptor, immune, cell signal transduc-tion, amino acid metabolism, protein translation, cell proliferation and others. Conclusion cDNA microarray could be used effectively to screen differentially expressed genes in the liver of rats with idi-opathic hyperoxaluria in which many different kinds of genes were involved.

Objective To explore the correlation between cytomegalovirus pneumonia (CMV-IP) and viral load in renal transplant recipients and to find out the threshold value of viral load for predicting CMV-IP. Methods The blood samples of 56 renal transplant recipients were taken weekly for the first 2 months and every 2 weeks for 2-6 months after transplantation.Real-time PCR were used to quantify the plasma CMV DNA.The mean viral loads of CMV-IP group and non-CMV-IP group in each time were compared using Wilcoxon test.Different cut-off values were tested to find the suitable values to predict the CMV-IP. Results Of the 56 recipients,8 (14.3%) developed CMV-IP.The viral loads were near zero in the first 4 weeks in both groups;from week 5 the viral load of CMV-IP group increased gradually and reached the climax at week 8 and then declined,but the load of non-CMV-IP group fluctuated at a low level.During weeks 5-11,the viral loads of CMV-IP group were higher than those of non-VMV-IP group.At 5,7 and 9 weeks,the differences of the viral loads between the 2 groups were significant (P

Immediate patency assessment of a completed microvascular anastomosis is considered an essential step in a microsurgical procedure. The most frequently used patency test is the milking patency test, which is too traumatic for use in clinical microsurgery. An atraumatic patency test remains to be devised. According to the principle of mechanics that rolling friction is smaller than sliding friction, we designed the so-called rolling patency test. The femoral arteries of Wistar rats were used in the experimental study to make a comparison between the two patency tests. The result showed that intact endothelial cells covered more than 90% of the inner wall of the artery in the rolling patency test, but less than 25% in the milking patency test. The study suggests that the rolling patency test is a reliable and atraumatic immediate patency test for use in clinical microsurgery.
