ObjectiveTo investigate the neuroprotective mechanism of edaravone for cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury in rats.MethodsThirty-six healthy adult male SD rats were randomly divided into three groups: a sham operation group, an ischemic model group, and an edaravone group (n=12 in each group).A focal cerebral ischemia model was induced by the suture method.Reperfusion was resumed after 2 h of ischemia;then the animals were sacrificed at 24 h after reperfusion.Edaravone 3 mg/kg was injected intraperitoneally immediately after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion in the edaravone group. The rats in the model group were injected equal volume normal saline.HE staining was used to observe the pathological changes.TUNEL staining was used to detect apoptotic cells in the ischemic cortex.Western blot and immunofluorescent staining were used to detect the expression levels of LIM domain protein 4 (LMO4) and LMO4 positive cells. Results HE staining showed that cellular morphology was basically normal in the sham operation group;both the model group and edaravone group had cell necrosis, but the latter was less severe. The number of morphologically normal cells in the edaravone group was significantly more than that in the model group (P<0.01).TUNEL staining showed that no TUNEL positive cells in the sham operation group were observed. The TUNEL positive cells in the edaravone group was significantly less that in the model group (P<0.01).Immunofluorescence staining showed that the expression level of LMO4 in the ischemic cortex in the edaravone group was significantly higher than that in the model group (P<0.01).ConclusionsEdaravone can alleviate the cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury and inhibit neuronal apoptosis. Its mechanism may be associated with the upregulation of LMO4 expression.

Objective To investigate the psychological conditions and the quality of life of premenopausal breast cancer patients. Methods 5 Level-Three Grade-I hospitals in Beijing were selected to conduct outpatient surveys on premenopausal breast cancer patients who returned for further consultation between October 2010 to September 2012. Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) as well as Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Breast (FACT-B) were used. Investigated breast cancer patients were divided into two groups: long-term condition group (more than 3 years after surgery) and short-term condition group (less than 3 years after surgery).Differences between the two groups in SAS, SDS and FACT-B were compared. Results 65 quality questionnaires returned, including 35 from the long-term condition group and 30 from the short-term condition group. The scores of SAS and SDS were significantly lower in the long-term condition group than in the short-term condition group (P<0.001). The scores of FACT-B was significantly higher in the long-term condition group than in the short-term condition group (P<0.001). Conclusion The breast cancer patients more than 3 years after surgery are in better psychological status and quality of life.

Journal of China Medical University 2017;46(2):156-159
Objective Henoch-Sch?nlein purpura(HSP)is a common multisystemic vasculitis in children ,but the exact pathogenesis remains unknown. Pentraxin 3(PTX3),a new kind of inflammatory cytokines, has a strong inflammatory effect, and is involved in occurrence and develop-ment of a variety of autoimmune diseases. The objective of this study is to evaluate the expression of PTX3,interleukin-8(IL-8),tumor necrosis fac-tor-α(TNF-α)and high sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs-CRP)in children with HSP,and explore the clinical significance of PTX3 in HSP devel-opment. Methods Thirty-six children(HSP group)and 17 healthy children(control group)were enrolled in the study. Serum levels of PTX3,IL-8 and TNF-α were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Serum hs-CRP levels were measured by automatic biochemical analyzer. Re-sults The serum levels of PTX3,IL-8,TNF-α,and hs-CRP were up-regulated in HSP group compared with the control group(P<0.05). The levels of PTX3,IL-8,TNF-α,and hs-CRP in patients with joint symptoms,or/and gastrointestinal symptoms,or/and kidney injury were significant-ly higher than those patients without joint symptoms,or/and gastrointestinal symptoms,or/and kidney injury(P<0.05). The expression of PTX3 was positively correlated with the expression of IL-8 and TNF-α(r=0.514,0.833,all P<0.05),but there was no correlation between PTX3 and hs-CRP(r=0.292,P>0.05). The expression of PTX3,IL-8,TNF-α and hs-CRP in HSP patients had no gender difference(all P>0.05). Con-clusion The high expression of PTX3 is related to the degree of inflammation in children with HSP. The up-regulated expression of PTX3 may play an important role in pathogenesis of HSP in children.
