Aim To investigate the effects of paeonol on lipopolysaccharide ( LPS) and adenosine 5′-triphos-phate ( ATP) induced NLRP3 inflammasome activation in primary rat microglia and the mechanisms responsi-ble for this anti-inflammatory effects. Methods Pri-mary rat microglia were identified immunohistochemi-cally using the cluster of differentiation 11 b ( CD11 b ) antibody. Proinflammatory cytokine IL-1β was deter-mined by ELISA. Western blot was performed to ob-serve the protein expression of NLRP3 , ASC and caspase-1 in cultured primary rat microglia. The level of intracellular reactive oxygen species ( ROS) was mo-nitored by using the fluorescent probe 2′, 7′-dichlo-rofluorescein diacetate ( DCFH-DA ) . Results LPS (0. 5 mg · L-1 )/ATP ( 5 mmol · L-1 ) significantly increased intracellular ROS level and IL-1β secretion and upregulated NLRP3 , ASC and caspase-1 protein expression in primary rat microglia. Paeonol signifi-cantly decreased intracellular ROS level and IL-1β se-cretion, and inhibited LPS/ATP induced overexpres-sion of NLRP3 , ASC and caspase-1 in cultured primary rat microglia. Conclusion Paeonol can inhibit LPS/ATP induced NLRP3 inflammasome activation in pri-mary rat microglia, and this inhibitory effect may be through the suppression of intracellular ROS.
2.Application progress of biomedical engineering simulation in anesthesia teaching
International Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2016;39(1):58-62
The main teaching methods for medical students and residents are didactic teaching, rote learning and apprenticeship.Although these teaching methods can be good for imparting knowledge, they are obviously insufficient for the training of technical skills, team cooperation and complex decision making.Application of biomedical engineering simulation in the anesthesia teaching can partially compensate for the insufficiency. The progress of biomedical engineering simulation in anesthesia teaching is reviewed and the educational trend was explored.

Objective To observe the changes of combined therapy on disci intervertebrales and their surrounding tissues and thus to determine its therapeutic effects on lubar intervertebral disc protrusion with magnafic resonance imaging. Methods After combined therapy including physical agents, drugs, traction, manipulation and remedial exercises had been adopted to treat 40 iubax intervertebral disc protrusion patients for 30 days, morphologic changes of disci intervertebrales and their surrounding tissues of these patients were observed by magnetic resonance imaging. Results The effective rate of combined therapy on lubar intervertebral disc protrusion was 82.5%, there were no obvious changes of thickness, salient degree of disci intervertebrales, anteroposterior diameter, transverse diameter and latero-cryptae extent of vertebral canal after the treatment. Conclusion Though the combined therapy can not change the morphous of lobar intervertebral disc protrusion, it may efficiently relief the clinical symptoms of patients with lobar intervertebral disc protrusion.

Objective To evaluate a new suture coil in endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). Methods Data of 15 patients with early gastrointestinal cancer undergoing ESD were retrospectively ana?lyzed. The edge of the lesion was pulled up by the new coil?assisted suture for the submucosal layer to be full?y revealed, then the submucosa were dissected, and the wound was stitched by suture coil. The success rate and complications were evaluated. Results The lesions were successfully resected in 15 patients. By pull?up, the submucosal blood vessels were completely revealed. No intraoperative uncontrollable bleeding oc?curred. Small perforation occurred in one patient, and was well stitched by the suture coil. The pull?ups were successfully completed in all patients, and the operation time was 5?10 min. The intraoperative slippage of fixed titanium clips occurred in two cases. All the wounds were stitched. Minor bleeding happened in 1 pa?tient, and was controlled by hemostatic clip. Conclusion The new suture coil is easy to use,and can effec?tively prevent and deal with the occurrence of intraoperative and postoperative ESD?related complications.

Retrospective analyses were conducted for the clinical data of two cases with pseudoMeigs' syndrome at our hospital. Both had respiratory symptoms, such as cough and dyspnea.Radiological examinations revealed ascites, pleural effusion and pelvic mass. The definite pathological diagnosis was pelvic malignant tumor. After surgical tumor removal, ascites and pleural effusion disappeared without recurrence.Along with reviewed cases from PubMed in the last decade,a total of 49 cases had pseudoMeigs' syndrome. The age range was 11-73 years.Their clinical manifestations include dyspnea (78%),abdominal distension (69%),cough (14%),abdominal pain (12%),fatigue (10%),weight loss (6%) chest pain (4%),fever (4%),abdominal mass (4%),and oliguria (2%).CA125 was commonly elevated. The primary tumors in pelvic cavity accounted for 78%.And ovarian metastasis from colon cancer was one of the most common in metastatic tumor.

OBJECTIVETo explore the feasibility of the treatment of upper eyelid sulcus using the expanded polytetrafluoroethylene implanted in orbit.
METHODSFrom July 2009 to April 2011, a total of 16 patients with upper eyelid sulcus were treated for recreating youthful periorbital appearance. To correct this kind of clinical characteristic, expanded polytetrafluoroethylene with different size were used as the orbital implant to restore the orbital contents and reinforce the bony support. upper eyelid sulcus was reversed effectively.
RESULTSWith average 2.5 year follow up, upper eyelid sulcus of 16 cases was reversed effectively. No postoperative complication related to globe or affected normal physical function was found.
CONCLUSIONSThe technique of orbital implantation with Expanded Polytetrafluoroethylene is beneficial for the treatment of the upper eyelid sulcus.

Objective:To compare soft-tissue morphology changes by cephalometric measurements be-tween extraction and non-extraction orthodontic treatment in borderline cases. Methods:The samplesconsisted of 33 cases selected as borderline cases by 5 orthodontic specialists. They were divided into 21extraction cases(including 13 four first premolar extraction cases and 8 four second premolar extractioncases)and 12 non-extraction cases by checking patients' treatment records.Conventional cephalometricanalysis was made to compare soft tissue structures before and after orthodontic treatments and the samecomparison was made between two different extraction patterns. Results:No statistical difference wasfound in pretreatment soft-tissue morphology between extraction and non-extraction groups divided fromborderline cases. The PosBs/FH of the four first premolars extraction group was smaller than that of non-extraction group, and the Ns-Sn-Pos of the four first premolars extraction group was smaller than that offour second premolar extraction group.None of the post-treatment soft-tissue measures showed significantstatistical differences between four first premolars extraction group and non-extraction group, but therewere 6 items showed significant statistical differences between four second premolars extraction group andnon-extraction group.Compared with extraction and non-extraction treatments, the most significant soft-tissue changes were:PosBs/FH,LL-SnPos,and Bs-EP.Conclusion:Although pre-treatment soft-tissuemorphology of second premolar extraction group was close to that of non-extraction group, the post-treat-ment soft-tissue morphology of first premolar extraction group became closer to that of non-extractiongroup.Compared with non-extraction treatment, the more significant changes caused by extraction treat-ment were located in the lower lip and chin, but not the upper lips.
