In this study, the optical data of tongue color of different syndromes in primary hepatic carcinoma (PHC) were detected by optical spectrum colorimetry, and the chromaticity of tongue color was compared and analyzed. The tongue color characteristics of different syndromes in PHC and the relationship between different syndromes and tongue color were also investigated.

Objective To analyse the prognosis of 117 newly diagnosed nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients underwent intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT). Methods From Jan to Nov 2005, 117 NPC patients who were treated by IMRT were enrolled. There were 81 males and 36 females with a median age of 42 years (range 18-76 years). According to Chinese Fuzhou Staging system(1992), 11 cases were Stage I , 15 Stage Ⅱ, 54 Stage Ⅲ and 37 Stage ⅣA. IMRT was carried out with Peacock plan. The prescription dose to the gross target volume(GTVnx) of nasopharyngeal tumor was 68 Gy, that of positive neck lymph nodes (GTVnd) was 60-66 Gy, clinical target volume 1 (CTV1) was 60 Gy, and CTV2 was 54 Gy. Results After a median follow-up time of 48 months (range 10.5-59.5 months), the 3-and 5-year overall survival (OS) rates were 95.7 % and 89.7 %, the disease-free survival (DFS) rates were 91.5 % and 87.2%, and the local-regional control rates were 94.0 % and 91.5 %. Univariate analysis showed the KPS, stage, Fuzhou clinical stage, status of blood platelet before treatment and uric acid after treatment were correlated with OS rate. T stage was the only independent factor of prognosis in the COX stepwise regression model. Conclusion Radical IMRT significantly prolongs the survival of NPC patients. T stage is the only independent prognostic factor for NPC patients.

Objective To study on the procedure, safety and effectiveness of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) implant applied to cranioplasty of skull defect. Methods A total of 11 cases (10 male, 1 female) of unilateral skull defect, more than 6 months post operation, were included in this study. PEEK implant was custom-made by three-dimensional numerically controlled processing depended on the data obtained from 1 mm-slice CT scan before cranioplasty individually. Autoclaved implants were applied to cranioplastic surgeries under general anesthesia. Findings of imaging examination and vital signs were compared before and after operation. Vital sign changes and circumstances during procedure were noted, and following-up reviews were performed on 2-week, 3-month and 1 year after operation respectively. Results Wounds healing were uneventful in 11 cases, no postoperative paresthesia presented. Surgical complications including temporary subcutaneous exudates were cleared up by puncture and aspiration in 5 cases, subcutaneous hematoma duo to drainage removal in 1 case, of which an emergency evacuation was performed and the implant was still with instant incision closure and then smooth recovery eventually. No significant abnormal fluctuation of laboratory examination was reported, moreover no artifact interference was found on postoperative CT scan or MR image. The subjective feelings and external sensory effects are satisfactory in patients. No emerging dysfunction of central nervous system or other organs was found, and no long-term complication was appeared. Conclusion It is feasible and safe to apply PEEK implant to cranioplasty without additional operative difficulty. This kind of material is an ideal alternative for repairing skull defect to patients with good financial condition and specific demands for postoperative status especially.

Objective To observe the surgical outcome of the modified transconjunctival technique for minimal segmental buckling on rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD).Methods This is a retrospective case series.Seventy-six patients (78 eyes) with uncomplicated RRD who underwent the modified transconjunctival technique for minimal segmental buckling were enrolled in this study. There were 41 male (42 eyes) and 35 female (36 eyes). The average age was (33.9± 15.6) years.Best corrected vision acuity (BCVA),fundus examination with three-mirrors lens, ocular B ultrasound, optical coherence tomography (OCT) were performed in all patients.BCVA was examined through Standard logarithmic visual acuity chart and transferred to logMAR vision for statistical analysis. The logMAR BCVA was 0.88± 0.88.The technique was successfully performed in all 78 eyes. After transconjunctival location of the retinal break was made,a 5 to 6 mm radial conjunctival incision was performed corresponding to the retinal break without cutting the limbal conjunctiva-Tenon's capsule. After cryopexy,a minimal explant was fixed with one to two sutures through the conjunctival opening, expanded by a pediatric speculum.BCVA,intraocular pressure, tear film stability, conjunctival recovery and retinal reattachment were collected 1 week,1 month,3 months,6 months after surgery. Results One week after surgery, retinal reattachments were achieved in 77 of 78 (98.7%) eyes and 1 eye (1.3%) received vitrectomy.Compared before surgery, the logMAR BCVA improved to 0.44± 0.41,with significant difference (t=3.092,P<0.01).Conjunctival incision tear occurred in 1 eye.Subretinal hemorrhage occurred in 5 eyes during subretinal fluid drainage procedure.Subretinal hemorrhage occurred in 5 eyes during subretinal fluid drainage procedure.Hemorrhage was absorbed in 2 of the 5 eyes at 3 months after surgery and absorbed in all 5 eyes at 6 months after surgery.Subretinal fluid occurred in 10 eyes at 1 week after surgery and be absorbed completely at 6 months after surgery.Tear film stability improved to preoperative lever at 1 week after surgery.Less change in corneal and conjunctival sensitivity was observed in all eyes.No other surgical complications were observed within the follow-up period, such as scleral perforation, explant extrusion, diplopia or infection. Conclusions The modified transconjunctival technique for minimal segmental buckling minimizes the damage to conjunctiva without reducing the retinal reattachment rate.It can effectively treat uncomplicated RRD with preserving an intact limbal conjunctiva and rapid tear film stability recovery.

Objective To construct a non-trace deletion mutant of exlA in Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain NY8755(NY8755ΔexlA)and investigate the basic characteristics of pore-forming toxin ExlA.Methods The NY8755ΔexlA was constructed using the secondary homologous recombination method.C57BL/6J female mice ages 6 to 8 weeks were infected with NY8755 and NY8755 ΔexlA via aerosolized intratraheal inoculation respectively.Within 7 days of infection, the survival and weight changes of the mice were observed and recorded before the proinflammatory cytokines in the bronchoal-veolar lavage fluid(BALF)of the infected mice in the two groups were detected. Results The sequencing results showed that NY8755 ΔexlA was constructed. After 1×107 CFU NY8755 and NY8755 ΔexlA were infected, all the mice in the wild-type strain group died within 48 hours, while those in the mutant strain group began to die after 48 hours, and 40%of them remained alive 7 days later. The weight of surviving mice in the mutant strain group decreased but recovered gradually. After 12 hours of infection, there were more bloody exudates(redder in color)in the BALF of the wild-type strain group than in the mutant strain group, and the contents of proinflammatory cytokines interleukin-1β(IL-1β)and interleukin-17A (IL-17A)were significantly different. Conclusion Pseudomonas aeruginosa pore-forming toxin ExlA is the key pathogenic virulence factor of the exlA-positive Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which can significantly affect the survival status of mice and cause obvious inflammation in mice. Very little information is available on the action mechanisms of ExlA. In this study, The NY8755ΔexlA and the C57BL/6J mouse models infected with NY8755 and NY8755ΔexlA have been constructed that may be used for the investigation of pathogenesis of exlA-positive Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
