1.CT findings of pulmonary actinomycosis and causes of misdiagnosis

Objective To scrutinize the CT features of pulmonary actinomycosis and analysize the causes of misdiagnosis.Methods CT images of eleven patients with pulmonary actinomycosis proved by pathology were retrospectively reviewed.Among them,6 were scanned with additional enhanced CT scan.Results Among the 11 patients,the lesions located in the inferior lobe in 7 patients,and in the superior lobe in 4 patients.The lesions affected two or more pulmonary segments in 9 patients,6 of them involving two lobes.Irregular mass or nodules with necrotic low-attenuation areas were the main signs in all patients,and segmental consolidations were found in 6 patients.Peripherally progressive enhancement was found in all patients with contrast enhanced CT scan.Vicinity pleural thickening was found in 11 patients,while extrapleural fat deposition was found in 6 patients.One case showed erosion of the chest wall and rib.Conclusion Pulmonary actinomycosis is a chronic suppurative granulomatous inflammation,which is often misdiagnosed with neoplasm or other lung disease because of its mass-like performance.The peripherally progressive enhancement on CT has a certain diagnostic value for P\pulmonary actinomycosis.
2.Real-time Study of Interaction between Adenosine Triphosphateand Its Aptamer Using Dual Polarization Interferometry

In this work, we used dual-polarization interferometry to explore the binding events between adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and ATP-binding aptamer (ABA) at solid-liquid interface.The single-stranded ABA was immobilized onto the chip surface.After the addition of ATP, the real-time and label-free technique for detailed investigation of their interactions were reflected on the changes of the mass, thickness, and density through DPI.By analysis of the binding curves from changes in mass, the association rate constant (ka, 4.66×10.3 L/(mol·s), dissociation rate constant (kd, 1.70 × 10.-2 s.-1), dissociation constant (KA, 2.7 × 10.5 L/mol), and association constant (KD, 3.7 × 10.-6 mol/L) were precisely determined.Moreover, good linear correlations between ATP concentrations and three parameters (mass, thickness, density) resolved by the response to ATP binding were obtained.The detection limits (LOD, 3σ) were 0.22 μmol/L for mass calibration, 0.14 μmol/L for thickness calibration, and 0.32 μmol/L for density calibration.We expect that this DPI-based aptasensor can be utilized to study the interactions of functional ABA with ATP, and also can be used for the detection of ATP with high sensitivity.

4.Visual Colorimetric Detection of Neurogenin 3 with Glutathione-Modified Gold Nanoparticle

The 13 nm gold nanoparticles ( AuNPs ) were synthesized through the reduction of HAuCl4 by sodium citrate and the glutathione was assembled on the AuNPs. Under the experiment conditions, glutathione-modified AuNPs ( GSH-AuNPs ) with negative charge presented a wine red color owing to the electrostatic repulsion between nanoparticals. Upon the addition of neurogenin 3 ( ngn3 ) peptide, the aggregation of GSH-AuNPs was induced by ngn3 peptide under a certain concentration of salt. The color of AuNPs solution changed from red to blue as a function of the ngn3 peptide concentration. Thus, a rapid detection method for ngn3 peptide using GSH-AuNPs as colorimetric probe was established. The optimal experiment conditions were equilibrium time=10 min, pH=6. 0, CNaCl=100 mmol/L. Under the optimum conditions, the assay showed a linear response range of 20-300 μg/L for the peptide with a detection limit being 8 μg/L and exhibited excellent selectivity for ngn3 peptide.
5.Lumbar bone mineral content in Shenzhen women by quantitative computerized tomography

BACKGROUND: Bone mineral content(BMC) can be determined by many methods, which are different in detecting position, clinical significance and differentiation between normal group and people with osteoporosis.OBJECTIVE: To establish a normal BMC standard by observing lumbar BMC with quantitative computerized tomography(QCT) measurement in Shenzhen women, so as to provide basis for clinical prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in the region.DESIGN: Randomized controlled, observational and comparative study taking normal women as subjects.SETTING: Medical imaging department of a hospital at district level.PARTICIPANTS: A total of 120 women aged 30 to 69 years, who received physical examination in the Central Hospital of Longgang district in Shenzhen from September 2000 to March 2002, were enrolled in this study. They were divided into four groups: 30 - 39 age group, 40 - 49 age group, 50 - 59 age group and 60 - 69 age group with 30 in each.METHODS: Trabecular and cortical BMC of lumber bodies(L1-3) were measured with QCT software so as to establish a standard of normal BMC in Shenzhen women and compare it with that of other regions.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The mean BMC in Shenzhen women, and comparison with that of other regions at home and abroad.RESULTS: The results of QCT showed linear correlation between BMC and bone ash weight, which could be expressed by the following linear regression equation: ash weight =0. 92432 × BMC + 39. 0633. Lumbar BMC loss increased with age in Shenzhen perimenopausal women. The annual loss of spongy bone and compact bones was 1.38% and 0. 84%, respectively. BMC of women aged 50 to 59 years was[ (135.31 ± 18.36) mg/cm3], obviously higher than that of women in Changchun city, Beijing city and the United States [(120.21 ±37.40), (116.7 ±26.6), and(119.5 ±27.1) mg/cm3]( t = 2. 002, 3. 383, 3. 636, P < 0.05 - 0. 01 ) . Moreover, BMC of women aged 30 to 39 years was also obviously higher than that of corresponding American women( t = 3.119, P < 0.01 ). No significant difference was found in BMC among women of the other age groups in these regions( P > 0. 05).CONCLUSION: This is the first time in our country to establish a standard of normal BMC in perimenopausal women with QCT measurement, which provides basis for early prevention and treatment of osteoporosis as well as evaluation of prognosis and fracture risk.
6.Experimental Study of the Accuracy of SIEMENS Osteo Software

Objective To assess the accuracy of SIEMENS Osteo software.Methods The mineral content of 20 cadaver lumber bodies(L 1~L 5) was measured by quantitative CT,and compared with bone ash analysis.Results Mineral content and bone ash weight had a linear correlation,which could be expressed by followed regress equation:ash weight=0.92432?BMD+39.0633.The results with quantitative CT method were all lower than that with bone ash analysis (average lower 29.196 mg/cm 3).Conclusion There are some deviations for measuring bone mineral content with this software.The deviation is within the limit of the theory error of single energy quantitative CT.The result of the measurement shoud be accurate after proofread.
7.Preparation and Quality Standard of Bifonazole Hollow Effervescent Suppository

OBJECTIVE: To prepare bifonazole hollow effervescent suppository and establish its quality standard. METHODS: Bifonazole hollow effervescent suppository was prepared by hot-melting method, 38-type semisynthetic glyceride as the base material, NaHCO3 and citric acid as the effervescent agent, bifonazole as main ingredient. UV spectrophotometry was used for the content determination of bifonazole. RESULTS: The weight of prepared suppository was about 2.3 g and mean size of maximal foaming capacity were all above 8 mL. The linear range of bifonazole were 1.015~10.15 ?g?mL-1(r=0.999 9) with an average recovery of 99.74% (RSD=1.28%). CONCLUSION: The established preparation is simple, practical and up to the standard. The content determination method is precise and accurate.
