Chinese Journal of Practical Nursing 2012;28(23):1-2
Objective To discuss the influence of preoperative visiting by special visiting nurses before operation on relieving mental tension of patients. Methods 80 patients were randomly divided into the experimental group and the control group with 40 patients in each group. All patients were prepared in the same way except that patients in the experimental group were visited by the operation room nurses before the operation. The differences in heart rate and blood pressure were compared between the two groups as the criteria for judging mental tension of the patients. Results Blood pressure and heart rate of patients in the experimental group did not fluctuate as much as the patients in the control group. Conclusions Visiting patients before the operation can stabilize patients' emotion and reduce their stress reaction and mental tension so as to help them get through the perioperative period more smoothly.

Objective To explore the applicable conditions for using urine uranium monitoring data to assess personal internal doses with a view to providing references for the occupational health management and the urine uranium monitoring in nuclear industry sector. Methods The urine uranium levels were calculated, through simulation calculation set at 1 mSv effective dose arising from either acute or chronic ingestion of uranium compounds. The results were compared with the monitoring values of workers without occupational exposure history. The feasibility of urine uranium monitoring for dose assessment of internal radiation exposure was discussed. Results For special monitoring of acute ingestion, liquid fluorimetry can meet monitoring requirements of Type F uranium compound, Type M low enriched uranium and Type S naturally occurring uranium. For routine monitoring, only Type F low enriched uranium and Type M naturally occurring uranium can be detected at shorter monitoring intervals, But it was not suitable for Type S uranium compounds. Conclusions Background levels and detection limits should be considered when urine uranium is measured for the purpose of assessment or control of exposure to uranium and the interpretation of the results.

BACKGROUND: Studies have shown that propofol enables a reduction in the number of adult rat mesenchymal stem cells, while the cell differentiation is also significantly inhibited. OBJECTIVE: To explore whether liver X receptors (LXRs) can reverse the inhibitory effects of propofol on bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. METHODS: Fifteen healthy C57/BL6 mice were randomized into three groups, 5 of which served as blank control group (intraperitoneally treated with normal saline), 5 as propofol treatment group (intraperitoneally treated with 60 mg/kg propofol), and 5 as propofol + LXRs agonist treatment group (intraperitoneally injected with 10 μL/g LXRs at the 1st day, and then injected with 60 mg/kg propofol at the 2nd day). The mice in the three groups were killed at 1-3 hours after treatment to isolate and culture bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. Cell counting kit-8 and cloneformation assay were used to evaluate the abilities of cell proliferation and self-renewal; induced differentiation experiments in vitro were used to evaluate the differentiation ability of cells into adipocytes, osteoblasts and chondrocytes; real-time quantitative PCR was used to detect the expression of differentiation related molecules andNotch signal. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: In the propofol-treated mice, cell viability and clone forming ability as well as adipogenic, osteogenic and chondrogenic differentiation of cells decreased significantly compared with the blank control group (P <0.05), while LXR agonists could reverse these effects significantly (P < 0.05). Notch signal expressions showed no difference among three groups prior to induced differentiation. The expression levels differentiation related molecules downregulated significantly after propofol treatment (P < 0.05), but upregulated significantly after treatment with LXR agonists (P < 0.05). Notch signaling inhibitor treatment could significantly inhibit the multi-directional differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells in the three groups. All these findings indicate that activated LXRs can reverse the inhibitory effects of propofol on bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells.
