Objectives To investigate the effect of bladder function and behavior change training on urinary retention after epidural anesthesia and the method to decrease it. Methods 265 patients receiv-ing operation under epidural anesthesia were divided into two groups, the experimental group (132 cases) and the control group (133 cases). The experimental group was further divided into 3 groups: one to two days of training, 3 to 4 days of training and above 5 days of training preoperation. The experimental group carried out bladder function and behavior change training, but the control group never undertook any train-ing. After operation the data were analyzed. Results The incidence of urinary retention was significantly different between the experimental group and the control group (P<0.01);The time length of the training before operation aorrelated with incidence of urinary retention(P<0.05). Conclusions Bladder function and behavior change training contributed to decrease urinary retention after epidural anesthesia. The training time and incidence of urinary retention showed inverse proportion. This could decrease the opportunity of suffering from urethral catheterization and urinary tract infection.

Objective To determine the biological traits and optimal condition for the induction and differentiation of endothelial progenitor cells from peripheral blood in healthy adults. Methods Mononuelear cells were isolated from peripheral blood of healthy adults by Ficoll-density eentrifugation. The isolated ceils were cultured in 1640 medium supplemented with VECF165 and bFGF. The EPC specific surface mark CD34 and KDR were assessed by fluorescence activated cell sorter(FACS)analysis: EPC were characterized as adherent cells double positive for DiL-acLDL uptake and lectin binding by direct fluorescent staining under a hser scanning confocal microscope. EPC migration were assayed by MTr assay. Result The number and migration ability of EPC were increased by VEGFl65 and bFGF. Conclusion Endothelial progenitors cells can be derived from mononuclear cells of peripheral blood at specific conditions.

The poly ester-amide (PEA) nanofiber membrane was prepared by electrospinning and the surface topography of nanofiber membrane was observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). It was found that with the increasing of spinning fluid concentration from 10% to 20%, the diameter of prepared fibers was increased from 180 nm to 305 nm. The chemical structure of PEA was detected by infrared spectrum, which showed that electrospinning had no significant effect on PEA. X-ray diffraction spectrogram and differential scanning calorimetry revealed that the crystallinity of PEA was decreased after electrospinning. Mechanical property test demonstrated that the mean breaking strength and elongation at break of PEA nanofiber membrane with (0.50±0.05) mm thickness were (1.00±0.18) MPa, and (18.20±2.86)%, respectively. MTT results showed that the endothelial cells proliferated actively on the PEA nanofiber membrane, and presented good adhesive and growth status.

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of three yin points acupuncture plus medicinal spreading moxibustion in treating erectile dysfunction. Methods Sixty patients with erectile dysfunction meeting the inclusion criteria were randomly allocated to two groups, 30 cases each. The control group took sildenafil at 1 hr before sexual intercourse. The treatment group received three yin points acupuncture plus medicinal spreading moxibustion, 8 days as one course of treatment, for three consecutive courses with 2 days of rest between the courses. The erectile function was scored in the two groups before and after treatment. The clinical therapeutic effects were compared. Results The total efficacy rate was 93.3% in the treatment group and 80.0% in the control group; there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups (P>0.05). The marked efficacy rate was 83.3% in the treatmentn group and 60.0% in the control group; there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups (P<0.05). in the treatment group, there was a statistically significant pre-/post-treatment difference in the erectile function score after 20 days of treatment (P<0.05) and statistically a very significant pre-/post-treatment difference in the erectile function score after 30 days of treatment (P<0.01). In the control group, the overall therapeutic effect was stable after treatment and there was a statistically significant pre-/post-treatment difference in the erectile function score (P<0.05). There was no statistically significant post-treatment difference in the erectile function score between the treatment and control groups (P>0.05).Conclusions Both acupuncture-moxibustion and sildenafil have a therapeutic effect on erectiledysfunction. Sildenafil produces a rapid and stable effect. Acupuncture and moxibustion produce a slower effect but have an advantage in the marked efficacy rate. Acupuncture and moxibustion are safe, of fewer contraindications and suitable for most of the population.

OBJECTIVE: To research the mechanism of the tongue inspection in traditional Chinese medicine and to study the special relationship between temperature distribution of the tongue and the tongue color. METHODS: The temperature field of human and pig's tongue was measured by infrared thermal vision system and thermal-couple probe. The blood perfusion rates in the human tongue and the pig's tongue were obtained with laser Doppler rheometer and CBI-8000 physiology research system. The temperature field of the profile of tongue was computed by numerical method. RESULTS: The quantitative curve of the temperature distribution on the surface of tongue and the relationship between temperature and blood perfusion rate were obtained. And the temperature in the profile of tongue was obtained by finite element method. CONCLUSION: The research involves that the different tongue color can reflect different tongue temperature and blood perfusion rate. This proved that it is acceptable to apply the bio-heat transfer theory to the tongue inspection research. The results provided a new method to research the tongue inspection in traditional Chinese medicine.
