Objective To discuss the role of traditional Chinese medicine in community health education of diabetic nephropathy (DN). Methods 124 patients of DN were randomly recruited into an observation group and a control group, with 62 patients in each group. The patients in the observation group participated in TCM health care education voluntarily, while the patients in the control group did not take any TCM education health care. Questionnaires were used to investigate relative knowledge to DN and demands and suggestions to TCM education health care. Results Patients in the observation groups had an obviously better understanding to DN knowledge than before. The therapeutic effects in the observation group were significantly better than the control group (λ2=3.376, P<0.01). Conclusion The application of TCM health education in community DN patients will effectively enhance the cognition of the patients to DN, and will also promote the therapeutic effects of DN treatment outside hospital.

Chinese Journal of Clinical Psychology 2001;0(03):-
Objective: To study and compare the views on cancer associated information and communication needs of cancer patients among cancer patients, their relatives, doctors and nurses, and other groups of people. Methods: A total of 501 cancer patients, 169 relatives,86 doctors and nurses, 176 healthy elderly people and 505 first grade college stu- dents were asked to complete the Information Preference Questionnaire of Cancer Patients and 2 questions regarding gen- eral information amount and content (IPQCP+2), and the Information Need Questionnaire (INQ). The elderly and the stu- dents were asked to complete two sets of IPQCP+2 and INQ in two roles: one as themselves and the other as patients. All data were analyzed in detail. Results: The views of different groups are significantly different. The differences include the viewpoints on whether to disclose the diagnosis of cancer and to inform the life expectancy to cancer patients, and whether the patients should participate in decisions about their medical care and treatments. The mean score of IPQCP on the over- all items and the 4 dimensions of all groups, and their opinions on general information amount and content for patients are significantly different. Conclusion: The views of different groups of people on cancer associated information and commu- nication needs of cancer patients are different. The views and requests of cancer patients themselves are the basis of doc- tor- patient communication. The prevention of cancer should be based on the characteristics of different groups of people and the patients’views should be considered.

Objectives:To study the satisfaction with doctor-patient communication among cancer patients, their relatives and medical staffs, and its associated factors. Methods:A total of 423 cancer patients were asked to rate their satisfaction with information communication, to complete the Information Need Questionnaire (INQ), the Demographic Questionnaire (DQ), and 4 questions regarding general information amount and content the patients got and wanted respectively. 82 relatives, 86 medical staffs were also asked to rate their satisfaction with information communication. Results:A certain proportion of cancer patients, their relatives and medical staffs were not very satisfied with their information communication. There are significant differences among them. The satisfaction of medical staffs was less. It suggests that they want to improve their communication level. Satisfaction with information communication of cancer patients was affected by the contents and styles of information communication, and whether their communication experiences met their preferences. Conclusions:Before providing information to cancer patients, we need to consider the style they want and to find out their needs and preferences.

Purpose:Clinical research has been done to show whether continuous infusion of navelbine can increase curative effect and decrease toxicity. Methods:Patients studied were non operable NSCLC and recurrent or metastatic breast cancer. Navelbine is given through a catheter in the venae subclavia by continuous infusion for 24 hours. Regimen:NVB 10 mg/iv/day 1+NVB 10 mg/iv continuous infusion 24 h/day 1—5+DDP 40 mg/iv 2h/day 1—3+Gransetron 3 mg/iv day1,3,5 given every 21 days. Results:Among 47 patients 35 patients were NSCLC and 12 patients were breast cancer. Average age was 58.9 years. Of the NSCLC patients, 12 were squamous cell carcinoma and 23 patients were adenocarcinoma; two patients were stage Ⅱ and 19 patients stage Ⅲ, 19 patients stage Ⅳ. All of the breast cancer cases were infiltrative duct carcinoma. Three patients were stage Ⅱ and nine patients were stage Ⅳ. Of the 47 patients, 44 patients were evaluable for response and 47 patients for toxicity. Response rate of NSCLC was 57%(19 pr) and breast cancer 63% (1 cr, 6 pr). Main toxicity was granulocytopenia and vomiting. WHO Ⅲ—Ⅳ grade granulocytopenia was 40% and vomiting 6.4%. Peripheral nerves toxicity was mild and only 6.4% patients had WHO I grade peripheral sensory nerve damage. No patients had severe nerve toxicity such as enteroplegia. Conclusions:Comparison of continuous infusion Navelbine and Cisplatin with classic usage of navelbine for management of NSCLC and breast cancer showed increased response rate and decreased toxicity. Administration through catheter venae subclavia can avoid chemo phlebitis. [

Objective:To perfect and improve the quality standard of Malloti Apeltae Radix. Methods:Microscopic identification was used to identify the transverse section and the powder. The water-soluble and the fat-soluble components were identified by TLC. Rutin was used as the reference in the characteristic chromatogram established by HPLC to determine the relative retention time and rel-ative peak area of each characteristic absorption band. A SPOLAR C18 chromatographic column ( 250 mm × 4. 6 mm,5μm) was used with acetonitrile-0. 4% phosphate solution as the mobile phase with gradient elution, the detection wavelength was set at 328 nm, the flow rate was 1. 0 ml·min-1, and the temperature was 35℃. Results: The microscopic characteristics were obvious. The spots of TLC were round and clear with good repeatability. Five characteristic absorption bands were shown in the fingerprints with the relative retention time within ± 5% of reference value of rutin, and the relative area of peak 3 and peak 4 was not lower than 0. 23 and 0. 66, respectively. Conclusion:The method is convenient, fast and repeatable, and the result is accurate and reliable, which can be used to control the quality of Malloti Apeltae Radix effectively, and as the main index of the quality standard.
