The prevalence of acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) associated with EV71 and the genetic variation in Fujian , China from 2003 to 2012 was investigated in this study .Descriptive epidemiology was used to analyze the epidemiologic and clinical features of AFP cases associated with EV 71 .Phylogenetic analysis was performed to explore the genetical characteris-tics of EV71 based on the complete VP1 nucleotide and amino acid sequences .Results showed that the mean incidence of EV71-associated AFP in children under 15 years old was 2 .24/10 000 000 in Fujian Province during 2003 and 2012 ,based on the number of EV71 isolates and the reported AFP cases .And the incidence has increased since 2008 .The EV71 strains isolated from the AFP cases or from the healthy contacts were distributed in 9 prefectures of Fujian Province ,most in the months of May and June .Of 76 .0% (19/25) of AFP cases associated with EV 71 were the children under 3 years and the male-to-female ratio was 1 .5 :1 .Twenty out of twenty-two cases (90 .91% ) had fevers before the onset of paralysis .Most cases had unilater-al limb paralysis (14/22 ,63 .6% ) .Typical manifestations of hand-foot-and-mouth disease (HFMD) were observed in five cases before the onset of paralysis .Residual paralysis was observed in two cases during the follow-up visits .The strains isolated from 25 cases belonged to genotype C4 .All other strains belonged to subtype C4a except the subtype C4b strains isolated in 2003 .The homology among the strains was high in 2009-2011 ,and the homology among these strains and the representative strains in Fuyang ,Anhui Province was also in the high level .Therefore ,it was possible that the isolated strains had the same origin and might cause the epidemic .In conclusion ,an AFP surveillance system could be developed for analyzing the incidence of AFP associated with EV71 ,determining the features of the isolates ,and describing the intensity and trends of EV71 epidem-ics .

Objective:To analyze the correlation between the body composition and cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) decline in physical examination population of different genders. Methods:Clinical data of the cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) and body composition analysis of 439 people who received physical examination in the Medical Examination Center of Peking University Third Hospital from May 2021 to September 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. The general data, physical examination, biochemical parameters, body composition and CPET results were collected. The subjects were divided into normal group and decline group according to the percentage of peak oxygen uptake (VO 2peak) levels ≥ 85% or<85%. Multivariate logistic regression was applied to investigate the influencing factors of CRF decline in subjects of different genders. Results:Among men, total cholesterol and triglyceride in the decline group were significantly higher than those in the normal group [(5.097±0.890) vs (4.865±0.856) mmol/L, (1.778±1.200) vs (1.485±0.709) mmol/L], and the blood homocysteine (Hcy) and skeletal muscle index were significantly lower than those in the normal group [13.00 (11.30, 15.90) vs 13.80 (12.05, 17.10) μmol/L, (7.89±0.65) vs (8.08±0.64) kg/m 2] (all P<0.05). Among women, skeletal muscle index in the decline group was significantly lower than that in the normal group [(6.21±0.52) vs (6.53±0.56)kg/m 2], and percent body fat was significantly higher than that in the normal group [(32.83±4.92)% vs (31.21±4.55)%] (all P<0.05). The elevation of triglyceride level ( OR=1.487, 95% CI: 1.042-2.121) and visceral fat area ( OR=1.032, 95% CI: 1.014-1.051) were positively correlated with the decline of CRF in man, the decrease of skeletal muscle index ( OR=0.215, 95% CI: 0.106-0.435) and the increase of percent body fat ( OR=1.149, 95% CI: 1.060-1.245) were positively correlated with the decrease of CRF in women (all P<0.05). Conclusions:There is a correlation between body composition and CRF decline in physical examination population of different genders. Men should control visceral fat more effectively, and women should pay attention to increase muscle mass while reducing body fat, in order to improve CRF.

International Eye Science 2024;24(9):1506-1509
AIM: To examine the effects of blepharoplasty on the ocular surface and refractive state.METHODS:Retrospective study. A total of 70 patients(108 eyes)who underwent blepharoplasty in our ophthalmology department from January 2022 to June 2023 were selected, among which 40 cases(48 eyes)diagnosed with ptosis received levator muscle shortness, and 30(60 eyes)diagnosed with eyelid laxity/single eyelids received blepharoplasty. The ocular surface disease index(OSDI), tear meniscus height(TMH), Schirmer Ⅰ test(SⅠt), tear film break-up time(BUT), corneal fluorescein staining(FL), cylindrical(Cyl), surface regularity index(SRI), surface asymmetry index(SAI), keratometry(Km), and cylindrical(C).RESULTS:There were statistical differences in preoperative and postoperative OSDI, BUT, SⅠt, and FL of patients who received levator resection(all P<0.05), but no differences were found in TMH(P>0.05). At 1 mo postoperatively, OSDI, BUT, SⅠt, and FL were significantly different compared to preoperative values(all P<0.05). There were no significant differences in OSDI, BUT, SⅠt, FL, or TMH of patients received blepharoplasty before and after surgery(all P>0.05). No significant differences were found in Cyl, SRI, SAI, Km, or C in either group before and after surgery(all P>0.05).CONCLUSION:The levator resection has an early impact on the ocular surface of patients with ptosis, and corneal protection measures should be taken early. There was no significant impact on patients undergoing blepharoplasty; there was no significant effect on the refractive status of all patients.

Objective :
To analyze the genome structure and genetic characteristics of IncpGRT1 plasmids from Pseud⁃
omonas , and elucidate its potential transmission risk .
Methods :
The genomic DNA of the clinical isolate 15420352 was extracted after purification and preservation of the strain , and then the whole genome was sequenced , and then the type of the plasmid was identified . Sequence annotation and comparison of the backbone region and the accessory modules were performed on all five same type sequenced plasmids , including one plasmid p420352 - strA in this
study and four from GenBank . The plasmids were annotated by RAST , Plasmidfinder , Blast , ResFinder , and ISfinder. The ORFs of the plasmid were annotated and drug resistance genes were found .
Results :
All five plasmids were classified as new IncpGRT1 type plasmids . The IncpGRT1 backbone genes or gene loci were in all five plasmids , and they contained an auxiliary replicon besides the primary IncpGRT1 replicon . Five IncpGRT1 plasmids carried at least three different accessory modules , including the srp region , the msr region , and a Tn5053 family transposon . Three
resistance genes strA , strB , and mer were obtained in these plasmids , which were involved in resistance to two categories of antibiotics and heavy metals . We also found that these plasmids carried at least one virulence gene msr and five key transporters srp , emrE , mod , phn , and lpt , which could improve the environmental adaptability of the strains .
Conclusion
The IncpGRT1 plasmids have become the important vector for the accumulation and spread of some drug resistance genes and virulence genes in Pseudomonas , and have improved the environmental adaptability of the strain.
