Objective:To explore the effect of nontypeable Haemophilus influenzaen(NTHi)strain ATCC49247on pri-mary rabbit tracheal epithelial(TE)cells. Methods:TE cells were isolated with low temperature protease digestion and cul-tured on collagen gel-coated membranes at an air-liquid interface in serum-free medium.Under these conditions,TE cells were proliferated and differentiated into a pseudostratified mucociliary epithelium, which were infected by NTHi.Morphologic changes of the cells were examined by scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and transmission electron microscopy(TEM)after 24h.Results:SEM showed that bacteria adhered to non-ciliated cells;death or apoptosis occurred in90%of TE cells and cil-iaries were broken.TEM showed NTHi adhered to the cell surface on which there were many microvillus.Lamellipodia and microvilli surrounded bacteria within vacuoles of airway cells. Conclusion:NTHi can attach to non-ciliated cells, the latter de-vours the bacteria by lamellipodia and microvilli.NTHi is toxic to TE cells, resulting in the death or apoptosis of TE cells.

ObjectiveTo discuss the effect of neonatal behavioral neurological assessment (NBNA) and developmental screening test (DST) on newborns with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). MethodsNBNA was performed for 60 newborns with HIE within 12-14 days and DST was also performed at 6th month after birth.ResultsMild and severe degree HIE newborns with low NBNA scores had unfavorable prognosis. Conclusions NBNA and DST can provide evidence for early interference for newborn's HIE.

Objective An interaction network among PD-1-ligands and other proteins were built to add deeper understanding of PD-1 signal pathway and to supply the theoretical data on the clinical application study of PD-1 and its ligands. Methods Searching the literature about PD-1 and its ligands in the PubMed,the result of which would be used to summarize the proteins that had been reported to have interactions with PD-1 and its ligands, and then, quadratic search would be performed on these proteins. Finally, the software Cytoscape would be used to build and analyze the interaction network and verified by PCR.Results There were 122 and 126 nodes in the PD-1/PD-L1 network and PD-1/PD-L2 network respectively. These proteins were involved in TCR signal path-way,cell adhesion,JAK-STAT signal pathway and interaction between cytokines.Meanwhile,a perspective that PD-L1 may influ-ence on CXCR4 through JAK-STAT pathway based on the network which had been supported by qPCR.Conclusion The bioinfor-matics suggested that there are differences between the mechanism of PD-1/PD-L1 and PD-1/PD-L2.Additionally,the method, which was based on the literature mining and bioinformatics,is good to put the biological literature to rational utilization and to pro-vide guidance for experiments.

BACKGROUNDEnamel decalcification in orthodontics is a concern for dentists and methods to remineralize these lesions are the focus of intense research. The aim of this study was to evaluate the remineralizing effect of casein phosphopeptide amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP) nanocomplexes on enamel decalcification in orthodontics.
METHODSTwenty orthodontic patients with decalcified enamel lesions during fixed orthodontic therapy were recruited to this study as test group and twenty orthodontic patients with the similar condition as control group. GC Tooth Mousse, the main component of which is CPP-ACP, was used by each patient of test group every night after tooth-brushing for six months. For control group, each patient was asked to brush teeth with toothpaste containing 1100 parts per million (ppm) of fluoride twice a day. Standardized intraoral images were taken for all patients and the extent of enamel decalcification was evaluated before and after treatment over this study period. Measurements were statistically compared by t test.
RESULTSAfter using CPP-ACP for six months, the enamel decalcification index (EDI) of all patients had decreased; the mean EDI before using CPP-ACP was 0.191 ± 0.025 and that after using CPP-ACP was 0.183 ± 0.023, the difference was significant (t = 5.169, P < 0.01). For control group, the mean EDI before treatment was 0.188 ± 0.037 and that after treatment was 0.187 ± 0.046, the difference was not significant (t = 1.711, P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONCPP-ACP can effectively improve the demineralized enamel lesions during orthodontic treatment, so it has some remineralization potential for enamel decalcification in orthodontics.
