Background The pathogenesis of dry eye is complicated, hormone level is thought to be one of impact factors in the development of dry eye.The regulation of the synthesis process of metalloproteinases(MMPs) in tissue has been reported. However, the effects of hormone on expression of MMP-2 in lachrymal gland is not clear. Objective This study was to investigate the effects of estrogen and androgen on the expression of MMP-2 in lachrymal gland in ovariectomized rats, and explore the role of MMP-2 in dry eye. Methods Sixty-four 3-monthold clean female Wistar rats were randomized into control group(8 rats),sham operation group(8 rats)and experiment group(48 rats).Ovariectomy(OVX) was performed on the rats of experiment group, and only fat tissue of abdominal cavity was cut off in the rats of the sham operation group. After 5 months of OVX,the experimental rats were subdivided into model control group, vehicle group, estrogen and androgen systemic or topical utilization groups and 8 rats for each group.Six weeks after administration of the drugs, the lachrymal gland was obtained. The expression of MMP-2 mRNA in the lachrymal gland was detected by reverse transcription PCR(RT-PCR),β-actin mRNA was used as an internal control, and the expression of MMP-2 protein was detected by Western blot,GAPDH was used as protein loading control. The use and care of the rats complied with the ARVO Statement. Results The expression of MMP-2 mRNA was strongest in the systemic estrogen group and was weakest in the systemic androgen utilization group.A significant difference in the MMP-2 mRNA expression was found among the 8 groups(F=18.60,P<0.01),and the MMP-2 mRNA was significantly higher in the model group than that of the normal control group(0.66±0.10vs.0.47±0.10)(q=3.01,P<0.05).In addition, the MMP-2 mRNA was significantly higher in the systemic estrogen group compared with the model group (0.83 ±0.10 vs.0.66-0.10) (q =2.79,P<0.05) ; while the expression of MMP-2 mRNA was significantly declined in the systemic androgen group in comparison with the model group(0.12±0.04 vs.0.66±0.10)(q=11.41,P<0.01).The MMP-2 protein presented with a strongest expression in the systemic estrogen utilization group and a weakest expression in the systemic androgen utilization groups. The expression level of the MMP-2 protein in the lachrymal gland was significantly different among the 8 groups(F =7.28,P<0.01).The MMP-2 in the model group was significantly higher than that of the normal group(0.55±0.13 vs.0.38±0.08) (q =2.39,P<0.05),and that in the systemic estrogen group was increased in comparison with the model group(0.69±0.12 vs.0.55±0.13) (q =1.85,P<0.05).However,the MMP-2 in the systemic androgen group was significantly lowed in comparison with the model group(0.27±0.07 vs.0.55±0.13) (q =4.32,P<0.01).Conclusions Estrogen may up-regulate the expression of MMP-2 in lachrymal gland, but the effect of androgen is opposite.Hormone level may play an important role in the regulation of the function of lachrymal gland.

Objective To study the effect of glucocorticoid receptor(GCR) on the treatment of patients with nephrotic syndrome(NS) and to observe the accommodation effect of herbal gynostemmae, acanthopanax senticosus harns on GCR levels. Methods The patients were divided into 3 groups: the healthy control group, treatment group Ⅰ(GC only) and treatment group Ⅱ(combination with herbal gynostemmae, acanthopanax senticosus harns and GC),radioligand binding assay was used to measure the GCR levels of each group. At the same time, the urine protein ratio within 24 hours was observed in each group. Results Compared with healthy control group, the GCR levels of treatment group Ⅰ and Ⅱ were both reduced, but after 4 weeks of treatment in the treatment group Ⅱ,not only GCR level recovered but also the urine protein were decreased faster than treatment group Ⅰ.Conclusions Herbal gynostemmae, acanthopanax senticosus harns can accommodate the GCR levels of children with NS.They can also eliminate urine protein and cure NS ideally.

Rotaviruses, which are recognized as one of the major etiological agents among infants and young children with diarrhea, consist of three concentric layers of protein capsid with the enclosed double-stranded RNA genome. Rotaviruses infect host cells mainly by identifying the specific receptors on cell surfaces and binding to them. Therefore, receptors are important factors for viruses infecting cells. So far, there have been many receptors found to be involved in rotavirus infection, including sialic acid, integrin, Toll-like receptor, and blood group antigen. This article provides an overview of receptors involved in rotavirus infection.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the precise locations of the blood vessels and nerves surrounding the seminal vesicles (SV) in men and provide some anatomical evidence for SV-related minimally invasive surgery.
METHODSWe observed the courses and distribution of the blood vessels and nerves surrounding SVs and obtained the data for positioning the SV neuroplexes in 20 male pelvises.
RESULTSOne branch of the neuroplexes was distributed to the SVs bilaterally with the neurovascular bundles, (2.85 ± 0.18) cm from the median sulcus of the prostate (MSP), while another branch ran through the Denonvillier fascia behind the SV, (0.81 ± 0.06) cm from the MSP. The arterial SVs (ASV) originated from the inferior vesical artery and fell into 4 types, 55% going directly to the SVs as one branch, 15% running between the SV and the ampulla of the deferent duct as another branch, 25% downward as 2 branches to the SV and between the SV and the ampulla of the deferent duct respectively, and 5% as the other ASVs. The shortest distance from the ASV through the prostatic neuroplexus to the posterior SV was (1.08 ± 0.09) cm.
CONCLUSIONIn SV resection, neuroplexus injury can be reduced with a bilateral distance of < 2.85 cm and a posterior distance of < 0.81 cm from the MSP, and so can bleeding by vascular ligation between the SV and the ampulla of the deferent duct.

Nowadays, small peptides are always expressed in the form of fusion protein. The expression product contains many superfluous amino acids which can affect the biological functions of small peptides even expressed by GST fusion protein expression system.SUMO protease can cut SUMO fusion protein expressed by fusion expression system without any amino acid residues left on target protein thus become a hot topic in this field.Recombinant His-UlP1/pET3c/BL21(DE3)engineering strain was constructed by genetic engineering technology and the expression conditions were optimized in shake flaks. The process of high density fermentation was explored and different purification conditions were detected by chromatography. The results showed that SUMO protease could be expressed well after inducing the engineering strain by IPTG of 1.0mmol/L at 30℃ for 6 hours. The expression level of the strain in fermentation pots could reach 24.3% analyzed by SDS-PAGE.The purity of SUMO protease was more than 98% after further purification by cation exchange chromatography. The yield was 355mg SUMO protease per liter fermentation liquid.Western blot analysis demonstrated that there were immune reactions between IlP1 and 6?His antibodies,so it has established a good foundation for large-scale industralazation in the future.
