Objective To investigate clinical manifestation and pathological changes and the expressions of Emerin protein and STA gene of Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy (EDMD).Methods The clinical features and STA gene detection from one patient with EDMD were analyzed retrospectively. Results The onset age of this patient was in early childhood. The four limbs were progressive muscle weakness and muscular atrophy. There were joint contractures and cardiac involvement in the early stage. The serum muscle enzymes increased slightly. The pathological changes in muscles showed that the sizes of muscle fibers were different, the fibers became spherical and some fibers were replaced by fat. Because of normal spinal anterior horn cells and sural nerves, neurogenic muscular atrophy might be ruled out. Emerin protein could not be tested in striated muscle and cardiac muscle. No mutation of STA gene was found in this case. Conclusions Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy is one particular type of muscular dystrophy. It is characterized with joint contractures and cardiac involvement in the early stage. Emerin protein is deficient in EDMD. There is no mutation of STA gene in sporadic EDMD.

Objective: Combining spatial independent component analysis (sICA) with temporal correlation analysis to investigate the functional connectivity of human brain using resting state fMRI. Methods: First, activated area was localized by performing sICA on the data from block design run, then one of the activated brain areas was chosen as a region of interest (ROI)and low frequency correlations between ROI and other regions were calculated in resting state to detect the functional connectivity networks. To validate the method, neural connectivity to primary motor cortex was assessed using this method during a resting state. Results: Functional connectivity network of motor cortex was detected, including primary motor cortex (M1), supplementary motor area (SMA), primary sensory cortex (S1), dorsal premotor cortex (PMd) and posterior parietal somatosensory association area (PSAAp). The connectivity implied by the resting state correlation was far more similar to the connectivity established by non-imaging methods. Conclusion: Functional connectivity of human motor primary cortex was investigated by combining sICA with temporal correlation using resting fMRI data. It provided a simple and noninvasive method for the research of brain functional connectivity.

Objective To investigate the effect of Gekko on experimental autoimmune myositis(EAM)animal model. Methods From Nov.2003 to May.2004,in the first hospital of Ji Lin university,Guinea pigs were immunized with rabbit muscle homogenate in Freund's adjuvant and a generalized myositis fundamentally similar to humanpolymyositis was established. These animals were divided at random into A,B,C,D groups.A group were treated with small dose Gekko [1 250 mg/(kg?d)],B group were treated with large dose Gekko [3 750 mg/(kg?d)],C group were treated with preinisone [3 mg/(kg?d)],D group received no treatment.Sign, serum muscle enzyme, electromyography(EMG)and muscle biopsy changes were compared. Results A,B,C groups became better.D group showed no significant change. Conclusion Gekko is effective in therapy of EAM guinea pigs. The result of this study provides an evidence that Gekko mightbe used for the treatment of PM.
6.In vitro susceptibility testing of Candida albicans to berberine hydrochdoride
Chinese Journal of Dermatology 2011;44(9):661-662
ObjectiveTo test the antifungal activity of berberine (BBR) against Candida albicans in vitro. MethodsAccording to the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS) M27-A protocol, broth microdilution test was performed to assess the susceptibility of 30 clinical isolates of Candida albicans to BBR and fluconazole alone or in combination. ResultsThe geometric mean minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was 248.18 mg/L and 2.64 mg/L for BBR and fluconazole alone, respectively. When combined with BBR of 320, 160 and 80 mg/L, the geometric mean MIC decreased to 0.03, 0.35 and 1.35 mg/L respectively for fluconazole. Fluconazole and BBR showed synergistic effects in 26.7% of these isolates including 3 fluconazoleresistant strains, additive effects in 56.7%, indifferent effects in 16.7%, antagonistic effects in none. Conclu sionIn vitro, BBR has antifungal activity against Candida albicans and can enhance the activity of fluconazole against Candida albicans.

Objective To explore the relationship between care burden and social support among family caregivers of disabled elders in Beijing urban area. Methods A cross-sectional survey based on convenience sampling was conducted among 744 family caregivers in Dongcheng District in Beijing urban area. All subjects were interviewed by the Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI),Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS) and general social and demographical material lists. And then we analyzed the correlation between social support and care burden. Results The mean scores of ZBT and SSRS were (40.3 ± 15.2) and (31.1 ± 6.9)respectively.And a negative correlation existed between the level of caregiver burden and total social support. The care burden of disability elders was negatively associated with objective support, subjective support and social support availability (P < 0.05).Conclusions There is a close relationship between care burden and social support among family caregivers of disabled elders. The more objective support, subjective support and social support availability the caregivers acquire, the less burden they bear.

Objective To investigate the effect of community comprehensive intervention on health behavior and self-rated health status among family caregivers of disabled elderly. Methods One hundredand twenty family caregivers of disabled elderly were selected from community health service centers of Beijing Dongcheng District, and were given 6 month-comprehensive community intervention (intervention group);121 family caregivers of disabled elderly from another community were selected as the control group. The knowledge and skills of caregiving, health behaviors (daily exercise time, daily relaxation time) and self-rated health status were evaluated before and 6 months after intervention. Results The knowledge and skill scores in intervention group were improved by 50.781 points, the daily exercise time and daily relaxation time were prolonged by 0.491 h and 0.837 h,respectively after the intervention (all P<0.05).There was no significant difference in self-rated health status of two groups before and after intervention (P >0.05).Conclusion Community comprehensive intervention improves the knowledge and skills of caregiving, and the health behaviors among family caregivers of disabled elderly, but the intervention measures does not impact the self-rated health status of family caregivers.
