BACKGROUND:Estrogen promotes the storage of trace elements in the bones and thereby impacts the variation of bone mineral density through influencing the bone cel metabolism. OBJECTIVE: To study the difference of bone mineral density and serum trace elements between Uygur young and elderly females from Urumqi. METHODS:The bone mineral density was measured in the Uygur women aged 30 to 40 years and 60 to 70 years in Urumqi by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry made in MEDILINK. The serum levels of trace elements, including calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, copper, zinc, were measured by Unicel Dxc 800 Synchron biochemical test instrument produced by Beckman Kurt, USA. Serum levels of trace elements and bone mineral density were compared between two groups. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Compared with the elderly group, the bone mineral density was significantly higher but the serum level of zinc was lower in the young group (bothP < 0.001). There were no differences in the other trace elements between the two groups (P> 0.05). These findings indicate that the bone mineral density of Uygur women at different age is significantly correlated with a part of trace elements in serum.

Objective To investigate the incidence of surgical site infection (SSI)in patients undergoing orthopedic surgery,analyze the risk factors,and provide basis for the prevention and control of SSI.Methods All hospitalized orthopedic patients undergoing surgery in a hospital from January 2010 to December 2014 were retrospectively sur-veyed,questionnaires were designed,patients’medical records were reviewed,incidence of SSI was analyzed,risk factors for SSI were analyzed with univariate and logistic regression methods.Results A total of 14 300 orthopedic patients undergoing surgery were investigated,576 (4.03%)patients had SSI,predominantly were superficial inci-sion infection (n=429,74.48%),615 strains of pathogenic bacteria were isolated from 576 patients,mainly were Staphylococcus aureus (n=137,22.28%),Escherichia coli (n=84,13.66%),and Enterobacter cloacae (n=73, 11 .87%).The incidence of SSI decreased year by year in patients undergoing orthopedics surgery(χ2 =24.706,P <0.001);the incidence of SSI in patients with amputation was the highest (22.67%),followed by patients with de-bridement (7.16%);multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that long duration of operation,long length of hospital stay,underlying diseases,use of implants,contaminated incision,more intraoperative blood loss,irra-tional perioperative use of antimicrobial agents,and without using negative pressure drainage were independent risk factors for SSI in patients undergoing orthopedic surgery.Conclusion The incidence of SSI is high in orthopedic pa-tients undergoing surgery,effective preventive measures should be actively taken according to the related risk factors of SSI,so as to reduce the occurrence of SSI.

Objective To characterize the cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) features of peripartum cardiomyopathy(PPCM) and idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy(IDCM), and to explore the value of MRI in the diagnosis of PPCM. Methods Ten cases of PPCM and 10 cases of Idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (IDCM) were included in this study. With 1.5 T MRI scanner, the heart shape (atrioventricular size, hypertrabeculation, thickness of the thinnest ventricular wall), function (ventricular wall movement and the overall function), cardiomyopathy perfusion were comprehensively evaluated. Paired samples t?test and Fisher exact probability method were used for statistical analysis. Results Between PPCM and IDCM group, there was no statistical significant difference in the atrioventricular size, cardiac output(CO), end diastolic volume(EDV), ejection fraction (EF), end systolic volume (ESV) and stroke volume (SV) (P>0.05). IDCM and PPCM group both showed ventricular wall thinning on MRI, with 4 cases of PPCM and 3 cases of IDCM presenting hypertrabeculation in the left ventricular apex. Seven cases of PPCM and 4 cases of IDCM depicted left ventricular local dysfunction, while 3 cases of PPCM and 6 cases of IDCM had abnormal integral movement. Two cases of PPCM appeared local delayed enhancement, while 4 cases of IDCM showed intramural delayed enhancement. After one year of follow?up, heart function recovered in 10 cases of PPCM and 4 cases of IDCM. Conclusions MRI diagnosis using multiple sequences is an ideal method in the evaluation of PPCM. Although there were no differences in cardiac morphology and function between PPCM and IDCM, the prognosis of PPCM is better than IDCM.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the immune-protective effect of Japan Schistosoma (Chinese mainland strain) 23 kD membrane protein-heat shock protein (SjC23-Hsp70) DNA vaccine plus adjuvantinduced interleukin-12 (IL-12) plasmid DNA on Schistosoma japonicum infection in water buffalos. METHODS: Forty-five health water buffalos (8-10 months old) in non-endemic area of schistosomiasis were randomly assigned into group A (SjC23-Hsp70+IL-12, 300 μg), group B (SjC23+IL-12, 300 μg) and group C (pVAX+IL-12, 300 μg), 15 in each group. Each buffalo was immuned by shoulder intramuscular injection for 3 times, at an interval of 28 days. Twenty-eight days after the last immunization, each buffalo was infected with 1000 Japan cercariae of Schistosoma. Fecal examinations were conducted 2 days and 1 day before the perfusion, and on the day of perfusion. The number of hatching miracidia and eggs per gram feces was recorded. Fifty-six days after the infection, the buffalos were sacrificed and perfused via the descending aorta. The recovered adult worms and eggs in the liver tissue were counted. RESULTS: We compared group A and B with group C: the estrogen reduction rate was 45.7% and 26.61%; bug reduction rate was 44.51% and 25.84%; the fecal egg reduction rate was 41.1% and 31.63%; the miracidium reduction rate was 48.11% and 38.07%; and the liver egg reduction rate was 43.39% and 31.95%. The above rates in group A were higher than those in group B (P<0.05). CONCLUSION SjC23-Hsp70 DNA vaccine combined with IL-12 may have a significant immunoprotective effect on buffalos.

Posttranslational modifications of antibody products affect their stability,charge distribution,and drug activity and are thus a critical quality attribute.The comprehensive mapping of antibody modifications and different charge isomers(CIs)is of utmost importance,but is challenging.We intended to quanti-tatively characterize the posttranslational modification status of CIs of antibody drugs and explore the impact of posttranslational modifications on charge heterogeneity.The CIs of antibodies were fraction-ated by strong cation exchange chromatography and verified by capillary isoelectric focusing-whole column imaging detection,followed by stepwise structural characterization at three levels.First,the differences between CIs were explored at the intact protein level using a top-down mass spectrometry approach;this showed differences in glycoforms and deamidation status.Second,at the peptide level,common modifications of oxidation,deamidation,and glycosylation were identified.Peptide mapping showed nonuniform deamidation and glycoform distribution among CIs.In total,10 N-glycoforms were detected by peptide mapping.Finally,an in-depth analysis of glycan variants of CIs was performed through the detection of enriched glycopeptides.Qualitative and quantitative analyses demonstrated the dynamics of 24 N-glycoforms.The results revealed that sialic acid modification is a critical factor ac-counting for charge heterogeneity,which is otherwise missed in peptide mapping and intact molecular weight analyses.This study demonstrated the importance of the comprehensive analyses of antibody CIs and provides a reference method for the quality control of biopharmaceutical analysis.

Objective: To investigate the feasibility and consistency of four-dimensional flow (4D flow) quantification of pulmonary regurgitation in patients with repaired Tetralogy of Fallot (ToF) by comparing with conventional two-dimensional flow (2D flow) and echocardiography. Methods: Both the 4D flow and 2D flow imaging were acquired with repaired ToF (a total of 21 patients) consecutively on 3.0 T MR scanner from May 2018 to August 2018. Pulmonary flow and regurgitant fraction were measured by a commercial post processing software Circle CVI42. All patients underwent echocardiography within one week after or before MR examination. The inter/intra-observer variability by 2D/4D f1ow and agreement between the two methods were investigated by interclass correlation coefficients (ICC) and Bland-Altman analyses. The agreement between MR and echocardiography were analyzed by weighted Kappa coefficient. The correlation between pulmonary regurgitation and cardiac function was also investigated by Pearson analysis. Results: All patients were included and completed the examinations successfully. Both inter-observer and intra-observer agreement by 4D flow for total forward volume (ICC=0.993, 0.996, respectively, P<0.001), total backward volume (ICC=0.994, 0.997, respectively, P<0.001) and regurgitant fraction (ICC=0.968, 0.985, respectively, P<0.001) were good. The total forward volume, total backward volume and regurgitant fraction measured by 2D flow and 4D flow reached a good agreement (ICC=0.954, 0.913,0.721,respectively,P<0.001). The consistency was good for severity of regurgitation measured by 2D flow (weighted Kappa=0.897, P<0.001) and 4D flow (weighted Kappa=0.710, P=0.001) compared with echocardiography. Significant correlation was found among right ventricular cardiac index(r=0.600, P<0.05), right ventricular end-diastolic volume index(r=0.788, P<0.05), right ventricular end-systolic volume index(r=0.683, P<0.05) and left ventricular end-diastolic volume index(r=0.578, P<0.05), left ventricular end-systolic volume index(r=0.687, P<0.05) with regurgitant fraction measured by 2D flow. Regurgitant fraction measured by 4D flow had a significant correlation with right ventricular cardiac index(r=0.606, P<0.05), right ventricular end-diastolic volume index(r=0.685,P<0.05), right ventricular end-systolic volume index(r=0.534, P<0.05) and left ventricular end-diastolic volume index(r=0.459, P<0.05), left ventricular mass index(r=0.633, P<0.05). Conclusion 4D flow MRI provides highly reproducible measurements of pulmonary flow on morphology and haemodynamics in patients with repaired ToF compared with 2D flow MRI and echocardiography.

BACKGROUND: It has been pointed out that perioperative hypothermia can increase the incidence of coagulation, acidosis, stroke, sepsis, pneumonia and myocardial infarction, so it is of great significance to monitor and maintain normal body temperature during perioperative period. OBJECTIVE: To design a medical carbon fiber thermostatic heating pad to prevent perioperative hypothermia and reduce complications. METHODS: The carbon fiber heating technology and medical equipment standard are combined and integrated into many advanced technologies. The system mainly consisted of power supply conversion, operation system, computer control system, PWM control and output, various heating pads and temperature controlling measurement system. A total of 200 patients undergoing epidural anesthesia in Zhengzhou First People's Hospital were randomly divided into two groups: the observation group (n=100) was treated with the medical carbon fiber thermostatic heating pad (adjusting temperature 38-40 oC), and the control group (n=100) with common quilt. The body temperature and shivering were monitored before operation, 10, 30 and 60 minutes after anesthesia, and 2 hours after operation. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) The heating pad had the characteristics of explosion proof, power purification, shielding isolation, output protection, computer control, and PWM modulation. (2) In clinical application, there was no skin irritation and skin allergy reaction in the observation group. (3) During operation, the body temperature of the observation group was relatively stable, and there was no significant difference in the body temperature in the observation group before and at 2 hours after operation (P> 0.05). However, the fluctuation of body temperature in control group was visible and showed a downward trend, and the body temperature in the control group showed a significant difference before and 2 hours after operation (P < 0.05). The body temperature of 10, 30, 60 minutes after anesthesia and 2 hours after operation was significantly higher in the observation group than the control group (P < 0.05). (4) The postoperative incidence of shivering in the control group was significantly higher than that in the observation group (18％ vs. 5％, P < 0.05). To conclude, the medical carbon fiber thermostatic heating pad is advanced in technology, safe and reliable in use, providing a new way for the prevention of perioperative shivering.

Objective To explore the relationship among life meaning,spiritual health and life practice of college students.Methods Sense of Life Meaning Scale,Spiritual Health Scale and Life Practice Scale were applied to 708 college students.Results Life meaning was positively correlated with spiritual health and life practice,and spiritual health was positively correlated with life practice (r =0.51-0.79,P＜0.01).Spiritual health played fully mediating role between life meaning and life practice (x2=287.27,df=24,GFl=0.91,RMSEA=0.12),and accounted for 87％ of the mediating role.Conclusion Spiritual health serves as a mediator in the effect of life meaning on spiritual health in college students.

Objective:To investigate the value of T 1ρ mapping in the assessment of myocardial fibrosis in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Methods:Forty HCM patients and 16 healthy volunteers who underwent CMR examination between December 2021 and May 2022 were prospectively enrolled. T 1ρ mapping, pre-and post-contrast T 1 mapping, and gadolinium contrast-enhanced delayed enhancement (LGE) imaging were performed in HCM patients, while T 1ρ mapping and T 1 mapping were performed in volunteers. HCM patients were further divided into LGE-positive (LGE+) and LGE-negative (LGE-) groups based on the presence or absence of LGE. The T 1ρ and pre-contrast T 1 values of the left ventricular myocardium of HCM patients and volunteers were measured, and the extracellular volume fraction (ECV) of the left ventricular myocardium of HCM patients was measured using pre-and post-contrast T 1 mapping. One-way ANOVA was used to compare the T 1ρ and pre-contrast T 1 values among the LGE+, LGE-, and volunteer groups, and pairwise comparisons were further corrected using the Bonferroni method. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was used to evaluate the diagnostic performance of pre-contrast T 1 and T 1ρ values in distinguishing LGE+ and LGE- patients from volunteers. The chi-square test or Fisher′s exact probability test was used for categorical variable comparisons. Pearson correlation coefficient was used to evaluate the correlation between T 1ρ and pre-contrast T 1, and ECV. Results:There were no significant differences in age, gender, and body surface area among the LGE+, LGE-, and healthy control groups ( P>0.05). Compared to the HC group, both the T 1ρ value ( t=5.74, P<0.001) and the pre-contrast T 1 value ( t=3.99, P<0.001) increased in LGE positive group, as well as in the LGE negative group (T 1ρ: t=4.19, P<0.001; T 1: t=2.06, P<0.044). ROC analysis showed that the area under the curve (AUC) of T 1ρ and pre-contrast T 1 in distinguishing LGE+patients from healthy controls were 0.93 (sensitivity 84.0%, specificity 93.8%) and 0.87 (sensitivity 84.0%, specificity 87.5%), respectively. The AUC of T 1ρ and pre-contrast T 1 in distinguishing LGE-patients from healthy controls were 0.84 (sensitivity 86.7%, specificity 68.8%) and 0.68 (sensitivity 60%, specificity 68.8%), respectively. The correlation analysis showed that the T 1ρ value of the left ventricular myocardium was positively correlated with the pre-contrast T 1 value ( r=0.31, P=0.02) and ECV value ( r=0.38, P=0.02). Conclusion:Without the use of contrast agents, T 1ρ mapping shows good performance for myocardial replacement fibrosis and diffuse fibrosis in HCM patients.

BACKGROUND: Reports on the prevalence of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) among Chinese patients with psoriasis are very limited. This study, conducted by rheumatologists, estimated the prevalence of PsA in a large number of Chinese patients with psoriasis. METHODS: Consecutive patients with a confirmed diagnosis of psoriasis attending nine dermatology clinics in five hospitals were recruited. All psoriasis patients were asked to complete a questionnaire comprising 16 questions to identify possible cases of PsA. All patients with one or more positive answers to the questionnaire were evaluated by two experienced rheumatologists. RESULTS: A total of 2434 psoriasis patients, including 1561 males and 873 females, were enrolled. Both the questionnaire and rheumatologists' examinations were completed in the dermatology clinics. The results identified 252 patients with PsA, comprising 168 males and 84 females. The overall prevalence of PsA among psoriasis patients was 10.4% (95% confidence interval [95% CI], 9.1%-11.7%). By sex, the prevalence was 10.8% (95% CI, 9.2%-12.5%) for males and 9.6% (95% CI, 7.7%-11.9%) for females and there was no significant sex difference in the prevalence of PsA (P = 0.38). Of the 252 PsA patients, 125 (49.6%, 95% CI, 41.3%-59.1%) were newly diagnosed by rheumatologists. Consequently, the prevalence of undiagnosed PsA among psoriasis patients was 5.2% (95% CI, 4.4%-6.2%). CONCLUSION The prevalence of PsA in the Chinese population with psoriasis is about 10.4%, which is almost double that of previous reports in the Chinese population, but lower than that in Caucasians.
