BACKGROUND:Delayed onset muscle soreness is closely related to skeletal muscle micro-injury, but the exact mechanism of skeletal muscle micro-injury is not yet clear. OBJECTIVE:To observe the histomorphological and ultrastructure changes of skeletal muscle micro-injury models induced by eccentric exercise. METHODS: Forty male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into quiet control group, immediately after exercise group, post-exercise 24 hours group, post-exercise 48 hours group and post-exercise 72 hours group. In the latter four groups, the rats were subjected to intermittent running on the-16° slope at a speed of 16 m/min: 5 minutes movement, 2 minutes rest and totaly 120 minutes. Rats in the latter four groups were observed immediately, at 24, 48, 72 hours after exercise. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:After eccentric exercise, the morphology and ultrastructure of rat’s skeletal muscle were both changed to different extents, and Desmin and Vimentin were dyed off for anti-desmin antibody staining at varying degrees. It indicates that one-time eccentric exercise can cause delayed skeletal muscle micro-injury.

The clinical features and gene mutation characteristics of 2 children who suffered from Cornelia de Lange syndrome(CdLs)and were admitted to Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical University in March 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. The 2 cases developed in infancy and presented with intractable epilepsy were accompanied with developmental retardation and special appearance. It was obvious that the 2 children had SMC1A gene mutations on X chromosome.Case 1 was frameshift mutations in the SMC1A gene at c. 2561dupA(p.K854fs), and case 2 was mutations in the SMC1A gene at c. 3441+ 1G>A(exon24)splicing mutation. These were heterozygous de novo mutations, and weren′t detected in their parents, which was not reported in literatures. In this study, 2 cases of CdLs were caused by SMC1A gene mutation, which enriched the human gene mutation database.CdLs should be considered in children with early-onset epilepsy, especially appearance and developmental retardation.Genetic testing is the most important diagnostic method.

OBJECTIVETo study the effect of acupuncture on the immune function of sepsis patients.
METHODSNinety sepsis patients were assigned to the control group, the thymosin a1 group, and the acupuncture treatment group according to random digit table, 30 patients in each group. Patients in the control group were treated according to the guideline of Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC). Patients in the control group received routine treatment. Those in the thymosin alpha1 group additionally received subdermal injection of thymosin alpha1 (1.6 mg), once per day for 6 successive days. Needling at related points such as Zusanli (ST36), Yanglingquan (GB34), Neiguan (PC6), Guanyuan (RN4), and so on, was performed in patients of the acupuncture treatment group, once per day for 6 successive days. T cell subgroups (CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, CD4+ /CD8+) and immunoglobulin levels (IgG, IgA, IgM) were detected. The length of ICU hospital stay, hospital readmission rate, and 28-day mortality were compared among the three groups.
RESULTSAfter six days of treatment, CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, IgG, IgA, IgM, and CD4+ /CD8+ ratio of three groups were all significantly increased (P < 0.01). Of them, CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, IgG, IgA, and IgM increased more significantly in the thymosin alpha1 group and the acupuncture treatment group (P < 0.01). Compared with the control group, the ICU hospitalization length was significantly shortened, the hospital readmission rate and the 28-day mortality were lower in the thymosin alpha1 group and the acupuncture treatment group (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). There was no statistical difference in each index between the thymosin alpha1 group and the acupuncture treatment group (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONAcupuncture could adjust the immune function of sepsis patients, improve their immunological indicators and prognoses.

Odor and taste are characteristic properties of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). They are closely related to the chemical compositions in TCM. They are also the outer reflection of TCM quality and an important part of the character identification. This article reviewed the current research on odor and taste identification of TCM, which indicated that odor and taste identification had not been paid enough attention to and its research lagged behind modern social development. Based on current analytical techniques and methods, this article proposed a new idea for odor and taste identification of TCM. The idea emphasized the objectification of odor and taste and TCM identification research should be combined with chemical components analysis.

Objective To explore the distribution characteristics of TCM syndrome and clinical relevant factors of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).Methods Totally 781 cases of BPH patients were collected. Chi-square test, analysis of rank and inspection were used to detect the distribution characteristics of TCM syndrome. The multiple classification logistic regression was used to analyze related factors. Results BPH 14 kinds of distribution of syndromes were statistically significant (P<0.01). One of the highest incidence is qi deficiency and blood stasis syndrome (24.97%), and lung heat obstruction is the lowest (1.15%). Composite syndromes (529 cases) were more common than single syndrome (252 cases); syndromes of intermingled deficiency and excess (453 cases) were more common than simple excess (169 cases) or deficiency syndromes (159 cases). BPH single syndrome distribution was different in prostate volume, residual urine volume, maximum urine flow rate, and showed no difference in the serum PSA level. 3 logit model was established successfully. It was found that the patients with the features of 50 to 60 years old, the course < 3 years, I-PSS score for 8 to 19 points showed higher positive incidence of excess syndrome than intermingled deficiency and excess syndromes and deficiency syndrome. Conclusion This study reveals the BPH distribution characteristics and clinical related factors, which has guiding significance to improve TCM clinical level.
