MicroRNAs (miRNA) plays an important role in biological development and disease occurrence and development, and acts as a "main switch" in biology. Among patients of essential hypertension, around 1/3 would suffer left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). Hence, essential hypertension becomes an independent risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. And miRNAs plays an important role in the occurrence and development of LVH. This paper reviewed the role of miRNA in regulating the stress signaling pathway, defined its impact on the occurrence of LVH, and further emphasized the opportunities and challenges of miRNA as a biomarker and therapeutic target.

OBJECTIVETo observe the efficacy and safety of modified Shengma Biejia Decoction (MSBD) combined with CAG program in treating elderly acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients with yin deficiency toxin stasis syndrome (YDTSS).
METHODSTotally 46 elderly AML patients were assigned to the treatment group (24 cases; treated with MSBD + CAG) and the control group (22 cases; treated with CAG + placebos of Chinese medicine) according to random digit table. The therapeutic course of CM placebo or MSBD was 21 days. The clinical efficacy and adverse reactions were observed. Meanwhile, physical state (ECOG Score), transfusion dependency, and TCM syndrome score were compared before and after treatment.
RESULTS(1) The complete remission rate was 54% (13/24) and the objective response rate (ORR) was 71% (17/24) in the treatment group, obviously higher than those of the control group [36% (8/22); 54% (13/24)], with statistical difference (P = 0.036, 0.042). When comparing the efficacy based on risk level, the moderate and poor ORR was 71% (10/14) and 67% (6/9) in the treatment group, and 57% (8/14) and 33% (2/6) in the control group, with statistical difference between the two groups (P = 0.048; P = 0.010). (2) Compared with before treatment in the same group, the ECOG score significantly decreased, the average infusion time of red cells and platelets were markedly prolonged in the treatment group after treatment (P < 0.05). ECOG score, the average infusion time of red cells and platelets were significantly better in the treatment group than in the control group after treatment (P < 0.05). (3) Compared with before treatment in the same group, scores of fever, hemorrhage, and bone pain were markedly reduced in the control group (P < 0.05); scores of fever, fatigue, hemorrhage, dry mouth, and bone pain were markedly reduced in the treatment group (P < 0.05). Better effect in relief of fever, fatigue, hemorrhage, dry mouth, and so on was obtained in the treatment group than in the control group (P < 0.05). (4) In aspect of hematotoxicity, the incidence of neutropenia, anemia, thrombocytopenia was obviously lower in the treatment group than in the control group [29.2% (7/24) vs 54.5% (12/22); 16.7% (4/ 24) vs 45.5% (10/22); 33.3% (8/24) vs 63.6% (14/22); P < 0.05]. The incidence of fatigue and anorexia was obviously lower in the treatment group than in the control group [37.5% (9/24) vs 63.6% (14/22), 37.5% (9/24) vs 81.8% (18/22); P < 0.05].
CONCLUSIONMSBD combined with CAG program in treating elderly AML patients with YDTSS, with efficacy enhancing toxicity reducing effect, had distinct advantages in improving physical condition and clinical symptoms, and reducing transfusion dependency.

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy and safety of Yishen Huoxue Decoction combined with low-frequency pulse magnetic fields (PEMFs) for treatment of hemiplegia with osteoporosis (OP). Methods Totally 144 patients were divided into TCM group and control group with randomized parallel controlled method, with 72 cases in each group. Patients in control group were treated with Western routine therapy, rehabilitation training, PEMFs (putting the magnetic head on the back, five times every week, 20-30 minutes each time). On the basis of control group,TCM group received Yishen Huoxue Decoction, one dosage per day, twice a day, orally. The therapeutic course for both groups was 6 weeks. The Fugl-Meyer assessment (FMA), Barthel index (MBI), NIH stroke scale (NIHSS), and visual analogue scale (VAS) before and after treatment were observed in the two groups of patients. Bone mineral density (BMD) was measured. Blood calcium, serum phosphorus, osteocalcin (BGP) content, type 1 procollagen amino-terminal peptide (P1NP), alkaline phosphatase (BALP) were tested. Safety was tested and adverse reactions were observed. Results Compared with before treatment, the scores of FMA, MBI, NIHSS and VAS improved in both groups (P<0.05); the scores of FMA, NIHSS and VAS in the TCM group were significantly improved than the control group after treatment (P<0.05). Compared with before treatment, the levels of BMD, bone metabolic index were improved in both groups (P<0.05). The levels of BMD, BGP, BALP in the TCM group were better than the control group (P<0.05). There was no abnormality in blood routine, liver and kidney function in the 2 groups after treatment, and no obvious adverse reactions were observed. Conclusion Yishen Huoxue Decoction combined with PEMFs can enhance the motor function, improve the neurological deficit symptoms and decrease the pain in hemiplegia patients with OP, and the bone metabolism.

OBJECTIVETo study the characteristics of inheritance and epidemiology of gallstone disease in one pedigree.
METHODSA gallbladder disease-specific questionnaire was administered to all family members to ascertain histories of cholecystectomy and other medical conditions as well as anthropometrical data. Laboratory examination and ultrasonography were performed to determine the existence of gallstone.
RESULTSOne hundred and thirteen members of four generations in the index family were enrolled in the study. The prevalence of gallstone in females (34.48%) was higher than in males (23.64%) but with no significant difference. The prevalence in the second and third generations (52%) was higher than in others (20%) (P < 0.05). The heritability and standard error showed as 86.38% +/- 46.46% in I generations. Body mass index, histories of hypertension, hyperlipidemia and blood glucose were positively related to gallstone disease (P = 0.012, < 0.01, 0.017, 0.043, respectively) in this family. Gallstone disease was not significantly related to history of diabetes, daily alcohol or diet habit. Plasma cholesterol and triglyceride levels were not correlated with gallstone disease.
CONCLUSIONGallstone disease presented aggregation in the family and was in accordance with the characteristics of autosomal dominant inheritance. Being female, obesity, hypertension and history of hyperlipidemia might serve as risk factors to this family.
