1.Progress in the study of choroidal thickness on diabetic retinopathy by OCT

? The choroidal vasculature provides oxygen and nutrients to the outer retina, and is responsible for maintaining the highly metabolically active photoreceptor cells. The normal structure and function of its vascular system is very important for the retina. So it is more meaningful to observe the choroid morphology for tracking pathological changes in diabetic retinopathy. With the application of the high resolution optical coherence tomography ( OCT ) technology, spectral -domain optical coherence tomography ( SD - OCT ) enhanced depth imaging technology can be used to measure the choroidal thickness quantitatively, which provides a new idea for the diagnosis and treatment of diabetic retinopathy. Therefore, the research and progress of choroidal thickness on diabetic retinopathy by OCT are summarized as follows.
2.Factors influencing the quality of life of the mothers of children with cerebral palsy

Objective To analyze the quality of life (QOL) of mothers of children with cerebral palsy and it's influencing factors.Methods The QOL of 123 children with cerebral palsy and their mothers was assessed a 36-item short form health survey (SF-36) and basic questionnaires combined with interviews.The factors influencing QOL were analyzed with t-tests and one way analysis of variance,and multiple regression analysis was used to determine the main influencing factors.Results Scores on all of the SF-36 items were much lower for mothers of children with cerebral palsy than for mothers of normal children.Average scores in the domains of emotional health,general health and vitality were the lowest (55.28,60.49 and 65.26 respectively).Correlation analysis showed that general health,physical function and role emotions were positively correlated with the child's age.All domains except pain were negatively correlated with the child's condition.Social functioning was positively correlated with the mother's age.The general health,role emotional,social function,and mental health scores were all negatively correlated with the mother's education level.Univariate analysis showed that the child's age and condition,the mother's education level and occupation,and the father's occupation all significantly predicted the mother's QOL.Multivariate regression analysis confirmed that the child's age and the father's occupation had significant predictive power.Conclusions The QOL of the mother of a child with cerebral palsy is mainly influenced by the child's age and condition,the mother's education level and occupation,and the father's occupation.Comprehensive and effective measures should be taken to improve the QOL of mothers of children with cerebral palsy and to improve the efficacy of rehabilitation for children with cerebral palsy.
4.Study on the formation of amyloid fibrils by self-assembly of an artificially designed peptide GAV-6.

Amyloid fibrils belong to a category of abnormal aggregations of natural proteins, which are closely related to many human diseases. Recently, some critical peptide sequences have been extensively studied for clarifying the molecular mechanism of natural proteins to form amyloid fibrils. In the present study, we designed a short peptide GGAAVV (GAV-6) composed of hydrophobic amino acids glycine (G), alanine (A) and valine (V) and studied its ability to form amyloid fibrils. As characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and dynamic light scattering (DLS), the peptide could self-assemble into smooth nanofibers without branches. Congo red staining/binding and thioflavin-T (ThT) binding experiments show that the nanofibers formed by GAV-6 shared identical properties with typical amyloid fibrils. These results show that the designed peptide GAV-6 could self-assemble into typical amyloid fibrils, which might make it a useful model molecule to clarify the mechanism for the formation of amyloid fibrils in the future.

5.The feasibility of susceptibility weighted imaging for assessing renal difference of healthy volunteers after water loading

Objective To probe the feasibility of susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI) for evaluation of renal blood oxygenation level of healthy volunteers after water loading.Methods SWI of 11 healthy volunteers,acquired before (group 1) and after water loading (group 2),were assessed retrospectively by two radiologists with more than 10 years abdominal work experience independently.In those images of the same section plane derived from two groups,the phase values in cortex ((φ)cor) and medulla ((φ)med),difference between the same vein and surrounding tissue on phase map (△(φ)) were measured using SPIN software package,and the oxygen extraction fraction changes (△OEF) was calculated.The (φ)cor,(φ)med and △(φ) between two groups were compared by paired t test.And the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC)was used to evaluate the consistency between two radiologists.Results For the radiologist 1,the (φ)cor,(φ)med and △(φ) were (0.046 ±0.019),(-0.014 ±0.003) and (1.3 ±0.4) rad in group 1,and were (0.047 ±0.014),(-0.012 ±0.005) and (1.1 ±0.4) rad in group 2 respectively,and no significant change was found in (φ)cor and (φ)med after water loading (t =-0.589 and-0.206,P > 0.05 in all),except of in △(φ) (t =2.400,P < 0.01).For the radiologist 2,the (φ)cor,(φ)med and △△(φ) were (0.049 ± 0.011),(-0.012 ± 0.004)and (1.5 ±0.4) rad in Group 1,and were (0.046 ±0.017),(-0.011 ±0.003) and (1.3 ±0.2) rad in group 2 respectively,there was no significant change in (φ)cor and (φ)med after water loading (t =0.590 and -0.974,P > 0.05 in all),except of in △(φ) (t =2.760,P < 0.05).Between two radiologists,the ICC of (φ)cor,(φ)med and △(φ) were 0.623,0.472 and 0.328 in group 1 and 0.599,0.442 and 0.445 in group 2 respectively.△OEF decreased about (-4.2 ± 2.3) c% and (-4.3 ± 2.8) c% measured by two radiologists respectively,and the consistency is good between two radiologists (ICC =0.784).Conclusion SWI provides a novel method to assess indirectly the oxygenation level of kidney,△OEF is an indicator with suitable reliability.

7.Relationship between Motor Function and Balance for Spastic Hemiplegia after Stroke

ObjectiveTo discuss the relationships among spastic paralysis and motor function, balance function and other clinical variables after stroke.MethodsAssessed the clinical spastic index of hemiplegic lower limbs with CSI scale, motor function with Fugl-Meyer Assessment, and balance function with Berg Equilibrium Scale, respectively. And then analyzed the relationship between clinical spasm index with motor function, balance function of the hemiplegic lower limbs with Pearson correlation analysis. Finally, ascertained which was the most important factor affecting the clinical spasm index of spastic lower limbs with stepwise regression analysis.ResultsThere is negative correlation between clinical spasm index with motor function and balance function, respectively. Tendon reflex, muscular tension and clonus are the deciding factors to motor function(P<0.05) and balance function(P<0.05) of the hemiplegic lower limbs.ConclusionThe clinical spasm index of hemiplegic limbs can affect the recovery of motor function and balance function significantly. So, assessing and improving the clinical spasm index of paralytic lower limbs can optimize the rehabilitation program to stroke patients.
8.Structure and Anti-HIV Activity of Betulinic Acid Analogues

Firstly discovered in 1980s,human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) continues to affect more and more people.However,there is no effective drug available for the therapy of HIV infection.Betulinic acid existing in various medicinal herbs and fruits exhibits multiple biological effects,especially its outstanding anti-HIV activity,which has drawn the attentions of many pharmacists.Among the derivatives of betulinic acid,some compounds exhibited inhibitory activities at the nanomolar concentration,and have entered phase Ⅱ clinical trials.This paper summarizes the current investigations on the anti-HIV activity of betulinic acid analogues,and provides valuable data for subsequent researches.
9.Effect of shenhuang ointment in promoting the rehabilitation of postoperative gastrointestinal dysfunction patients of Qi stagnation blood stasis syndrome: a clinical observation.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effect and safety of plastering Chinese Compound Shenhuang Ointment (CSO) at Shenque (RN8) in promoting the rehabilitation of postoperative gastrointestinal dysfunction patients of qi stagnation blood stasis syndrome (QSBSS).
METHODSA prospective, multi-centered, randomized, double-blinded, controlled trial was conducted in 220 postoperative gastrointestinal dysfunction patients of QSBSS. They were randomly assigned to two groups, the CSO group (110 cases) and the placebo group (110 cases). CSO was plastered at Shenque (RN8) for 5 days after operation. The time of exhaustion, defecation, the recovery of intestinal peristalsis, integrals of TCM syndrome, and serum levels of motilin (MOT)and somatostatin (SS) were observed.
RESULTSCompared with the placebo group, the condition of exhaustion and defecation, the recovery of intestinal peristalsis on the 3rd day after operation was all improved (P < 0.05). The integrals of TCM syndrome at day 2, 3, and 4 were more significantly lowered in the CSO group than in the placebo group (P < 0.01, P < 0.05). The total effective rate of TCM syndrome was 95.3% in the CSO group, better than that in the placebo group (91.8%, P < 0.05). Compared with the placebo group, the serum MOT level increased and the serum SS level decreased at day 5 after operation in the CSO group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSThe plastering of CSO at Shenque (RN8) could advance the time of exhaustion and defecation, and improve patients' clinical symptoms. And patients could tolerate well.

10.The preliminary study on molecular biologic staging of non-small cell lung cancer lymph nodes

Objective To analyze negative lymph nodes of 34 non-small cell lung cancer(NCLC) patients with total correction by means of fluorescent quantitation PCR and immunohistcchemistry,and to form molecular bi- ology staging.Methods Clinical data and tissue samples of 193 lymph nodes were collected from 34 patients under- going resection for non-small cell lung cancer.Using fluorescent quantitation reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) and immunohistochemistry method,lymph nodes were examined for CEA gene mRNA,P53 and CK to form molecular biology staging.All the patients were followed-up for an average of forty months.Results The CEAmRNA was identified in 21.7% (42/193) lymph nodes negative patients from 17 patients(17/34,50%); TMN staging was up-regulated in 8 patients;positive lymph nodes were increased in 9 patients.P53 and AE1/AE3 were identified 9.8%(19/193) from 11 patients,18.6 % (36/193)from 15 patients,separately;TMN staging was up-regulated in 2 patients of P53 examination and 5 patients of AE1/AE3 analysis;positive lymph nodes were in- creased in in 7 patients of P53 examination and 11 patients of AE1/AE3 analysis.There was obvious statistical sig- nificance in them,but the molecular biology staging based on the three markers was not an independent factor on re- currence and metasis of lung cancer.Conclusion CEAmRNA.P53 and AE1/AE3 analysis could find lung cancer micrometasis more sensitively to form molecular biology staging which was relative to the prognosis,but not an inde- pendent prognostic indicator.It might be good to the therapy strategy after operation.
