Objective To examine the expression of lipoxygenases (LOXs)on human pancreatic carcinoma and their effects on proliferation and apoptosis of human pancreatic carcinoma in vitro. Methods Expression of 5- LOX and 12-LOX in the tissue of human pancreatic carcinoma and pancreatic cancer cell line (SW1990) was detected by immunohistochemical staining and RT-PCR.To examine the effects of polyunsaturated fatty acids on pancreatic cancer cell line, the proliferation rate of SW1990 cells treated with arachidouic acid (AA),docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentenoic acid (EPA) was analyzed by MTT and the incorporation of bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) methods. An annexinV/propidium iodide (PI) assay with flow cytometry and in situ terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP-digoxigenin end labeling (TUNEL) assay were used to identify potential induction of apoptosis by the unsaturated fatty acids. The effects of 5-LOX inhibitor (MK-886) and 12-LOX inhibitor (baicalein) on the proliferation of SW1990 cells were determined by above methods. Results Both 5-LOX and 12-LOX were over expressed in the tissue of human pancreatic carcinoma and the pancreatic cancer cell line.AA had a stimulatory effect on the growth of SW1990 cells while EPA and DHA had an inhibitory effect in a dose-dependent manner. The apeptosis of SW1990 cells co-cultured with DHA or EPA lasting for 24 hours was increased markedly.Furthermore, both MK-886 and baicalein in a dose-dependent-manner inhibited the growth of SW1990 cells ard induced a significant increase of apoptotic cells rate. Conclusions Expression of lipoxygenase is up-regulated in human pancreatic cancer. Polyunsaturated fatty acids have regulatory effects on the growth of pancreatic carcinoma in vitro.AA stimulates proliferation of pancreatic cancer cell line, while DHA and EPA suppress proliferation, simultaneously inducing apoptosis of pancreatic cancer cell line.Blocking the functions of lipoxygenase with its inhibitor exerts a negative regulatory effect on the growth of pancreatic carcinoma in vitro.Lipoxygenase might be a novel therapeutic target for the pancreatic cancer.

Journal of Practical Stomatology 2009;25(4):513-516
Objective:To study the expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF), and thrombospondin (TSP) in oral submucous fibrosis(OSF), and to determine the relationship between VEGF and TSP, so as to investigate their roles in the pathogenesis of OSF. Methods:30 patients with OSF, including early (10 cases), middle (10 cases), late stage (10 cases) were studied. 5 healthy volunteers were chosen as control group. Buccal mucosa biopsies were taken in all samples. Expressions of VEGF and TSP were detected by immunohistochemistry. Results:The expression of VEGF increased in early stage compared with normal oral mucous, and decreased in middle and late stage. The expression of VEGF in early stage had statistical difference compared with control group, middle stage and late stage respectively(P<0.05).The expression of TSP upregulated in early and middle, and downregulated in late stage. There were no statistical significant differences among groups(P>0.05). The expressions of VEGF and TSP had negative correlation(r=-0.620,P<0.05). Conclusions: The abnormal expressions of VEGF and TSP may be a pathogenesis factor of OSF.

Objective:To analyze the current status of frailty in elderly patients undergoing cardiac surgery, explore its risk factors, and establish a predictive model of frailty in order to provide targeted and predictive nursing programs. Methods:A total of 205 cardiac surgery patients admitted to the first affiliated hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from March 2015 to January 2019 were selected as the study subjects. Patients were divided into 2 groups according to whether they were frail: the frailty group ( n=78) and the control group ( n=127). Logistic regression was used to analyze the risk factors that affect the frailty of elderly patients undergoing cardiac surgery. The receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was used to evaluate the effectiveness of model X [consisting of body mass index (BMI), Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) score, number of diseased patients, and number of drugs] in diagnosing frailty in elderly patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Results:Of the 205 patients, 78 (38.05%) showed frailty. The proportion of high school education level and above, Tinetti Gaitassessment (TGA) score≥24 and MMSE score≥27 in the frailty group was lower than that in the control group, and the proportion of Geriatric Depression Scale-15 (GDS-15) score≥7, the number of diseases≥3 and the number of drugs≥5 in the frailty group was higher than that in the control group ( χ2 value was 9.254-26.061, P<0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that BMI, MMSE score, number of diseased, and number of medications were independent risk factors for frailty in elderly patients undergoing cardiac surgery ( OR value was 0.032-5.275, P<0.05). The area under the ROC curve, sensitivity and specificity of frailty in elderly cardiac surgery patients assessed by model X were 0.913, 75.61% and 96.77%, respectively. Conclusion:The incidence of frailty is higher in elderly patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Model X can diagnose the frailty of elderly patients undergoing cardiac surgery and help clinical nurses to carry out targeted care.

Microbiology 1992;0(02):-
Iron uptake mechanism of Vibrio alginolyticus was primarily investigated. V.alginolyticus could survive in the medium with high-concentration iron chelator. The strain of V. alginolyticus isolated from diseased fish produced more siderophore than that from marine environment. The extract of siderophore from V. alginolyticus could stimulate the growth of Escherichia coli mutant AN93. Under iron limitation, the growth rate was decreased and several outer membrane proteins were induced. Adding iron into the iron-limited medium the normal growth could be recovered.

Objective To investigate the role of plasmid pYC on proteome of Yersinia pestis. Methods Two dimensional electrophoresis was performed to strains of Yersinia pestis with and without the pYC plasmid, and differential proteins were identified by mass spectrometry. Results More than 500 protein spots of Yersinia pestis with and without plasmid pYC were recognized, and their protein profiles were generally similar. The chaperone GroEL was highly expressed in strains with plasmid pYC, whereas the protein GroEL was not encoded by plasmid pYC. ConclusionsPlasmid pYC has an impact on proteome of Yersiniapestis. The proteins of pYC-p10 and pYC-p11 encoded by plasmid pYC may regulate the expression of GroEL.
