Ginsenosides, belonging to a group of saponins with triterpenoid dammarane skeleton, show a variety of pharmacological effects. Among them, some ginsenoside derivatives, which can be produced by acidic and alkaline hydrolysis, biotransformation and steamed process from the major ginsenosides in ginseng plant, perform stronger activities than the major primeval ginsenosides on inhibiting growth or metastasis of tumor, inducing apoptosis and differentiation of tumor and reversing multidrug resistance of tumor. Therefore ginsenoside derivatives are promising as antitumor active compounds and drugs. In this review, the derivatization methods, ginsenoside derivatives and their anti-tumor structure-activity relationship have been summarized for providing useful information for the research and development of novel antitumor drugs.

BACKGROUND: Currently, acid etching and bonding technology have been widely used in clinical stomatology. Data have indicated that the main content of inorganic elements (calcium and phosphorus) has a certain difference between the dental enamel and dentin of the young and adult permanent teeth. OBJECTIVE:To measure the content of main inorganic elements, calcium and phosphorus, in the dental enamel and dentin from young and adult permanent teeth with spectrophotometry and ethylene diamine tetraacetie acid titration method. METHODS:Each 20 adult and young permanent teethin vitrowere selected. Plaster stone and water was mixed; when it was nearly dried, the teeth were verticaly cast in the mixture and the tooth surface was exposed. The models were cut into the slices using syj-200 precision cutting machine, and then the slices were put into nitric acid and dissolved through heater to prepare standard solution. At last, the concentrations of calcium and phosphorus in the hard tissue of both young and adult permanent teeth were measured with spectrophotometric method and titration method. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The content of calcium and phosphorus and calcium/phosphorus ratio in the hard tissue of young permanent teeth were less than those of adult permanent teeth (P < 0.05), reflecting that the organic matter content was more than that in adult permanent teeth, but their mineralized degree was inferior to that of adult permanent teeth (P < 0.05). These findings indicate that the young permanent teeth are more acid proof than the adult permanent teeth; therefore, the acid etching time can be properly prolonged for young permanent teeth in clinical treatment, in order to achieve better effects.

Objective:To understand the status of drinking water-borne endemic fluorosis in Henan Province, so as to provide scientific basis for improving prevention and control strategies. Methods:Ten counties (districts, referred to as counties) were selected from drinking water-borne endemic fluorosis areas of Henan Province in 2018. Three villages in each project county were selected according to the disease status of mild, moderate and severe conditions, and the operation status of water improvement projects, water fluoride content and dental fluorosis among children aged 8 to 12 years in each diseased village were monitored. Results:Totally 30 villages were surveyed, all of which were in the water improvement projects; a total of 25 water improvement projects were monitored, all of them were in normal operation, and the water fluoride exceeding standard rate was 28.00% (7/25), the qualified rate of water fluoride in the water improvement projects was 72.00% (18/25). Among them, 21 villages were in normal operation and the water fluoride in the water improvement projects met national standard. In which the detection rate of dental fluorosis among children aged 8 to 12 years was 36.71% (606/1 651), the index of dental fluorosis was 0.74, and the epidemic intensity was extremely mild. Water fluoride of water improvement projects in 9 villages exceeded the national standard, where the detection rate of dental fluorosis among children aged 8 to 12 years was 43.57% (261/599), the index of dental fluorosis was 0.78, and the epidemic intensity was extremely mild. The detection rate of dental fluorosis among children in the villages where the water fluoride of water improvement projects exceeded the national standard was higher than that in the villages where the water fluoride of water improvement projects met the national standard (χ 2=8.752, P < 0.01). Conclusions:The excessive fluorine content in the water of water improvement projects is still serious, and the epidemic is still severe. It is necessary to strengthen the scientific demonstration of the water improvement project construction and the project acceptance upon completion, so as to prevent unqualified projects from being put into use. We will carry out regular water quality monitoring and promptly rectify projects with water quality exceeding the standards.

Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Medical Sciences) 2011;31(4):515-9
There has been an ongoing search for clinically acceptable methods for the accurate, efficient and simple diagnosis and prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Optical spectroscopy is a technique with potential clinical applications to diagnose cancer diseases. The purpose of this study was to obtain the optical properties of HCC tissues and non-tumorous hepatic tissues and identify the difference between them. A total of 55 tissue samples (HCC tissue, n=38; non-tumorous hepatic tissue, n=17) were surgically resected from patients with HCC. The optical parameters were measured in 10-nm steps using single-integrating-sphere system in the wavelength range of 400 to 1800 nm. It was found that the optical properties and their differences varied with the wavelength for the HCC tissue and the non-tumorous hepatic tissue in the entire wavelength range of research. The absorption coefficient of the HCC tissue (1.48±0.99, 1.46±0.88, 0.86±0.61, 2.15±0.53, 0.54±0.10, 0.79±0.15 mm(-1)) was significantly lower than that of the non-tumorous hepatic tissue (2.79±1.73, 3.13±1.47, 3.06±2.79, 2.57±0.55, 0.62±0.10, 0.93±0.16 mm(-1)) at wavelengths of 400, 410, 450, 1450, 1660 and 1800 nm, respectively (P<0.05). The reduced scattering coefficient of HCC tissue (5.28±1.70, 4.91±1.54, 1.26±0.35 mm(-1)) and non-tumorous hepatic tissue (8.14±3.70, 9.27±3.08, 2.55±0.57 mm(-1)) was significantly different at 460, 500 and 1800 nm respectively (P<0.05). These results show different pathologic liver tissues have different optical properties. It provides a better understanding of the relationship between optical parameters and physiological characteristics in human liver tissues. And it would be very useful for developing a non-invasive, real-time, simple and efficient way for medical management of HCC in the future.

Objective:To detect the factors related to hemocytopenia and interstitial lung disease (ILD) secondary to primary Sj?gren's syndrome (pSS) in in-patients.Methods:Clinical characteristics of patients with pSS hospitalized in China-Japan Friendship Hospital from March 2014 to October 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were divided into different groups according to hemocytopenia and ILD. Chi-square test and Mann-Whitney U test were used to compare data in subgroups, and logistic regression were used to detect factors related to hemocytopenia and ILD secondary to pSS. Results:Five hundred and seventy-one inpatients with pSS were included in this study and the female: male ratio was 8∶1. Two hundred and seventy five of included patients had hemocytopenia (48.2%) and 180 patients had ILD (31.5%). Compared with patients without hemocytopenia, patients with hemocytopenia had higher ratio in low C3 [ OR=2.326, 95% CI(1.483, 3.650), P<0.01] and elevation of erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) [ OR=1.912, 95% CI(1.233, 2.964), PP<0.01) . Compared with patients without ILD, patients with ILD showed higher ratio in male[ OR=2.509, 95% CI(1.269, 4.959), P<0.01) and fatigue [ OR=5.190, 95% CI(5.190, 13.931), P<0.01) , lower positive rate of anti-SSA antibody [ OR=0.392, 95% CI(0.230, 0.668), P<0.01) and anti-CENPB [ OR=0.337, 95% CI(0.145, 0.782), P<0.01] antibodies, and lower ratio in low C3[ OR=0.332, 95% CI(0.189, 0.582), P<0.01]. Conclusion:Low C3 and high ESR may be risk factors for developing hemocytopenia in patients with pSS. Men with pSS may be susceptible to ILD, while pSS patients with ILD may have lower ratio in positive anti-SSA antibody, positive anti-CENPB antibody and low C3. All of these findings are yet to be validated by future prospective cohort studies.
