Objective To discuss the short-term clinical effect including functional change of lipiodol- arsenic trioxide emulsion on the primary hepatic carcinoma.Methods Fifty-two patients undergone arterial chemoemblization were selected and then randomly divided into two groups:treatment group(n=27)and control group(n=25).Patients in treatment group were treated with lipiodol-arsenic trioxide,while those in control group treated with mitomycin,epirubicin,cisplatin or lipiodol.Clinical symptoms and six liver function parameters were observed and analized.Results The clinical symptoms of patients in treatment group improved much better than those in control group,and the liver function impairment of patients in treatment group also decreased more than those in control group.Conclusions Lipiodol-arsenic trioxide is an effective and safe intervention-therapeutic embolization material for primary hepatic carcinoma.

Growth patterns of trichome and contaminative bacteria in Spirulina sp. liquid culture were observed, and it was found that the number of neutral and alkalophilic bacteria was always 105～106 times of that of Spirulina sp. trichome. It would be very difficult to get real pure Spirulina sp. strain by classical methods of dilution plate, capillary and single trichome selecting methods. A great deal of contaminative bacteria was washed out by two pretreatment processes. Low speed centrifugation was designed to wash the strains which usually deposit at bottom, and filtration method was designed to treat the strains usually floating at surface. Sandwich plate and dilution plate were designed for the purification of the mobile strains and non-mobile strains, respectively. A lot of strains were purified by the above processes and pure single trichome formed pure colonies on plates.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of Xianxiong decoction on the mice with acute lung injury induced by lipopolysaccharide.

METHODEighty female ICR mice were randomly divided into 8 groups: model group, Xianxiong decoction group, Daxianxiong decoction group, Xianxiong decoction group without Kansui Radix group, Xianxiong decoction group without Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma group, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma and Kansui Radix group, normal group and control group. Animals of each group, except normal group, were undertaken intraperitoneal injection and intranasal inhalation of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on day 1, 2, 3 to establish acute lung injury (ALI) model. 30 min after modeling, 0.2 mL corresponding drugs were administrated to each mice, dexam ethasone and normal saline were given to the mice of control group and normal group respectively. White blood cell in blood, neutrophil percentage of blood and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) supernatant, the ratio of wet and dry lung tissue ( W/D), histopathological changes of lung tissue were estimated. Sixty ICR mice were randomly divided into normal, model, control, high, middle and low dose Xianxiong decoction groups and were modeled in the same way. ELISA was applied to detect the level of NF-kappaB, TNF-alpha and IL-6 in BALF, PCR for NF-kappaB and TNF-alpha mRNA in lung tissue, and Western blot for NF-kappaB and TNF-alpha. Half of 20 ICR mice were administrated with Xianxiong decoction of its maximum tolerant normal saline.

RESULTCompared with model group, the number of WBC in blood of Xianxiong decoction group mice decreased (P < 0.01), percentage of neutrophils in both blood and BALF decreased as well (P < 0.01, P < 0.05); it also significantly reduced the ratio of W/D (P < 0.01); and found the alveolar wall, the number of inflammatory cells infiltrating improved, compared with model group. Xianxiong decoction reduced the level of NF-kappaB, TNF-alpha and IL-6 in BALF (P < 0.01, P < 0.01, P < 0.05); its high and low dose groups only found TNF-alpha level declined. Five mice died 24 h after administration of Xianxiong decoction which indicated its toxicity when other influential factors were considered.

CONCLUSIONXianxiong decoction is effective on the ALI mice induced by LPS, but it is of toxicity at 3 g x mL(-1).

Objective To explore the imageologic characteristics of pelvic fractures with artery injuries and the treatment methods for embolization of arteries.Methods From January 1999 to June 2005,60 cases(42 males and 18 females)aged 21-52 years(average 34.5 years)with pelvic fractures and unsteady blood dynamics were admitted into our hospital.There were 32 cases with traffic injury,13 with crushing injury,nine with fall injury and six with other injuries.The mean injury severity score was 39?16(16-66).All cases were hypetensive with systolic blood pressure less than 90 mm Hg on the arrival.Routine X-ray examination of dorsaventral,debouch and porch of pelvis was performed.The aver- age amount of blood transfusion was 2 886 ml.All cases underwent iliac artery angiography and pelvic ar- teriography.Results X-ray examination of pelvic fractures showed posterior pelvic fracture in 25 ca- ses,with 64 branches of blood vessels injured;anterior pelvic fracture in 13,with 17 branches of blood vessels injured;acetabular fracture in six,with 12 branches of blood vessels injured;and combined pel- vic fracture in 16,with 36 branches of blood vessels injured.Three cases died,with mortality rate of 5%.One case with common arterial thrombosis was treated with artificial blood vessel transplantation, four cases with external iliac artery injuries including one with artery rupture were treated with prosthesis, and among the three cases with external iliac artery thrombosis,one was treated with dislodgment of thrombosis,one treated with recanalization of thrombolysis and one did not give any treatment.Fifty cases with injury and bleeding of internal iliac artery and its branches were treated with arterial embolization. Five cases showed no obvious injury.Conclusions The types of artery injuries can be predicted through X-ray of pelvic fracture.Posterior pelvic fracture may easily cause injury to superior gluteal arter- ies,iliac lumber arteries,and lateral sacral arteries.While anterior pelvic fracture will cause injury to obturator arteries.Superior gluteal artery is susceptible to injury.Embolization of injured arteries and an- astomosis are preferred treatment for pelvic arterial disruptions.

OBJECTIVETo develop an HPLC method for the measurement of flavones in Elsholtzia bodinieri.

METHODAnalysis was carried out on Shimadzu LC-2010A HPLC system. The separation was performed on Agilent Extend-RP C18 column (4. 6 mm x 250 mm, 5 microm), with methanol-acetonitrile-0.2% phosphoric acid as mobile phase, and the flow rate was 1.0 mL min(-1) and the detective wavelength was 280 nm.

RESULTA good linear relationship and the mean recovery was found within the range.

CONCLUSIONThis method is rapid, simple and accurate.

Objective To observe the effects of Dahuangfuzi decoction on the intestine barrier functional of acute necrotizing pancreatitis in rats. Methods The 60 rats were randomly divided into sham operation group ( n = 19 ), ANP group ( n = 21 ), and Dahuangfuzi treatment group ( n = 20). The rats of ANP group were induced by injecting 1 ml/kg of 4% sodium taurocholate into the pancreatiobiliary duct, and jejunal fistula was esablished. The rats of treatment group received Dahuangfuzi decoction (2 ml, repeated at 4 and 8 h)through jejunum distal stoma tube 0. 5 h after ANP induction. The other 2 groups received same amount of normal saline. Blood sample was collected through abdominal aorta, 24 h after ANP induction, and the serum amylase, endotoxin, D-lactate, plasma diamine oxidase (DAO) were detected. Pancreas, small intestine tissue was harvested for pathologic examination, index of intestinal epithelial damage was measured and ultrastructural changes in small intestinal mucosa was observed. Results The expression of serum amylase, endotoxin,D-lactate, DAO in sham operation group was ( 152 ± 32 ) U/L, (6.95 ± 2.10) pg/L, ( 3.96 ± 1.08 ) μg/mland ( 14.26 ± 2.67 ) μg/ml, while the corresponding values were ( 1549 ± 93 ) U/L, (40.48 ± 3.41 ) pg/L,( 12.34 ± 1.23 ) μg/ml and ( 80.28 ± 3.54) μg/ml in ANP group, and they were (655 ± 49 ) U/L, ( 19.55 ±2.50) pg/L, (6.75 ± 1.36 ) μg/mland ( 20.69 ± 7.53 ) μg/ml in treatment group. The values in ANP group were significantly higher than those in sham operation group. The values in treatment group were significantly lower than those in ANP group, but significantly higher than those in sham operation group ( P ＜ 0.05 or P ＜0. 01 ). The thickness and height of intestinal mucosa in ANP group were ( 389.44 ± 29.87 )μm and ( 16.52 ±3.73) μm, which were significantly lower than those in treatment group [(501.95 ± 45.38 )μm, (27.82 ±5.17)] μm, and in sham operation group [( 658.72 ± 57.49 ) μm, ( 35.49 ± 6.43 )μm, Index of intestional epitholial donage in ANP group was 3.72 ± 0.65 which is significently higher than those in theatment (2.12 ±0.37 ) and in sham operation group (0.85 ± 0.24). The intestinal mucosa histological and ultrastructural changes in Dahuangfuzi treatment group were better than those in ANP group. Conclusions Dahuangfuzidecoction can significantly decrease the damage of intestine barrier function in ANP rats.

OBJECTIVETo study the strengthening of fluorophlogopite-based dental machinable ceramic through developing a new type of calcium-mica-based ceramic.

METHODSBased on the analysis of the crystal structure of the fluorophlogopite ceramic of Dicor MGC, the structure of a new type of calcium-mica-based ceramic was designed and the corresponding composition of the new material was experimented. And the new glass-ceramic was obtained through the treatment of glass preparation and nucleation. Then crystal content of the glass ceramic was analyzed by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) and the 3-point bending strength of the new ceramic was recorded.

RESULTSA new type of calcium-mica-based glass ceramic was developed and had the 3-point bending strength of (210.2 +/- 14.7) MPa. Compared with the strength of fluorophlogopite-based dental machinable ceramic, such as Dicor MGC, which was reported in the range of 150 approximately 180 MPa within inclusive studies, the higher strength of the new ceramic was recorded.

CONCLUSIONSThe fluorophlogopite-based dental machinable ceramic could be reinforced through internal strengthening.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the feasibility of stable transfection of human hypoxia inducible factor-1alpha (HIF-1alpha) gene into fibroblasts cells and the effects of supernatant from the transfected cell culture on hair follicle cells.

METHODSPcDNA-HIF1alpha was stably transfected into fibroblasts cells with lipofectamine 2000. Expression of HIF-1alpha was observed by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and Western blot. The supernatant was obtained to detect the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) by ELISA. The mRNA expression of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) was detected by RT-PCR. MTT was used to detect the activity of fibroblasts cells and dermal sheath cells added with supernatant.

RESULTSPcDNA-HIF1alpha was successfully transfected into fibroblasts cells. HIF-1alpha could be detected by RT-PCR and Western blot. The expression of VEGF in the supernatant of cells transfected with PcDNA-HIF1alpha was detected. The mRNA expression of bFGF was significantly higher than in the control group (P < 0.01). MTT showed the activity of cells added with supernatant was enhanced (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONPcDNA-HIF1alpha can stably transfected into fibroblasts cells, and the expressed HIF-1alpha induces the expression of VEGF and bFGF, and the expressed VEGF enhances the activity of cells.
