Appendectomy involves several key concepts in the foundation course of operative surgery. So it is the best choice to test whether the students can be flexible in using and fully under-stand what they learned about the basic theories and skills of appendectomy. Changzheng Hospital applies Wechat-ald team-based learning and problem-based learning teaching in appendectomy-related courses by actively delivering messages with content of educational administration, basic knowledge, clinical images and videos to the micro-groups, achieving instantly efficient information dissemination and interactive communication. It breaks the shackles of traditional classroom in space and time, mo-bilizes students' enthusiasm for learning, enhances their communicational skills and sense of team-work and improves students' comprehensive analysis and practical ability, therefore achieving better teaching results.

Objective To investigate the expression of six-transmembrane epithelial antigen of the prostate (STEAP) in prostate cancer and its relationship with prostate specific antigen (PSA).Methods A retrospective analysis was performed of 65 consecutive patients verified for prostate canc-er by prostate biopsy or post-operational pathological examination. The clinical stage was classified ac-cording to TNM system and the pathological grade was classified according to Gleason score.STEAP expression in 65 prostate cancer samples (T1 9,T2 14,T3 17,T4 25;high differentiation 37,moder-ate differentiation 12 and low differentiation 16) was studied by using STEAP monoclonal antibody (Santa Cruz Biotech,USA) and SP immunohistochemical staining.Positive staining gray values were introduced to describe the intensity of STEAP expression.STEAP expression level was analyzed with respect to stage, grade, serum total PSA and free/total PSA (f/t PSA) ratio respectively. Results The serum total PSA concentration and f/t PSA ratio in all cases was (27.65±8.34) ng/ml and 0.15~0.04 respectively.STEAP was positively stained in 63 patients (T1 7,T2 14,T3 17,T4 25; high differentiation 37,moderate differentiation 11 and low differentiation 15).The mean STEAP-positive staining gray values in stage T1,T2,T3 and T4 of prostate cancer were 26.8%,45.6%,62.3% and 76.5%,respectively and in high, moderate and low differentiation group were 71.2%,52.8%,and 34.4% respectively. The positive staining gray values of STEAP expression was posi-tively correlated to the clinical stage of cancer and negatively correlated to the Gleason score and the ratio of f/t PSA (P<0.01,respectively).There was no significant relationship between STEAP ex-pression and serum total PSA concentration (P>0.05).Conclusion STEAP expression may act as one of new markers to the invasion degree and pathological grade of prostate cancer.

Objective To investigate the relationship between quality of life and liver function in patients with chronic viral hepatitis B.Methods Psychological condition was investigated in 536 patients of chronic viral hepatitis B and 200 normal volunteers with self-administered 36-item short-form health survey questionnaire. These patients were divided into four groups based on their liver fuction normal, mild, moderate and severe damage, based on their serum activity of alanine aminotransferase(ALT)and serum level of bilirubin at the time of investigation. The patients with abnormal liver function at the beginning of the study would be retested when liver function recovered to normal level. Before and after comparison was made for those with abnormal liver function by Wilcoxon signed rank test.Trend test for the changes in liver function was performed by Jonckheere-Terpstra test. Results There was significant difference in physical functioning, role limitation due to physical health, bodily pain, general health perception, vitality, social functioning, role limitation due to emotional problems and mental health between patient with chronic viral hepatitis B and healthy volunteers. It was positively correlated with the degree of liver function damage. Scores of general health perception, role limitation due to physical health, role limitation due to emotional problems and vitality were relatively low in patients with chronic viral hepatitis B.Conclusions Quality of life in patients with chronic viral hepatitis B was far worse than that in healthy normal people, which related with their liver function. The more damage to liver function, the worse quality of life.Additional psychological treatment will be helpful for the patients with chronic viral hepatitis B other than drug treatment.

Objective To investigate the safe region for screw fixation in atlas lateral mass by ra- diologic measurements to conduct the operative procedure. Methods The dimensions of the pedicles were determined in 30 patients with normal atlas by CT scan and three dimensional reconstruction images of the upper cervical spine. The space available for the screw(SAS)was defined as the perpendicular distance between two lines tangential to the spinal canal and the transverse foramen, respectively.SAS was evaluated at 0?(SAS1)and 10?(SAS2)insertion angles. The location of screws in 13 cases of opera- tion were observed by CT scan images measurements of the cervical spine. Results SASI at 0?inser- tion angle was(7.81?1.28)mm and SAS2 at 10?insertion angle was(9.69?1.23)mm,with statisti- cal difference(P<0.01).For SAS1,the distance from the midline of pedicle to the midline of posterior arch and the distance from the center of C2 inferior articular process to the midline of posterior arch showed insignificant statistical difference. However, the entry point at the posterior arch of the midline of SAS2 was located at 2.0 mm lateral to the midline of ASAI.Twenty-six pedicle screws in 13 cases were inserted correctly, without cortex breakage,or nerve and vessel injury. Conclusions There is a safe region for screw fixation in atlas lateral mass.Wider space available for the screw can be acquired when transverse angle is 10?.It is necessary to confirm the safe region by using axial CT of atlas before screw fixation.

The Coat protein and Maturase gene of E.coli bacteriophage MS2 was amplified by PCR,then the gene was cloned into pET32a to construct the intermediate vector pET32aCP.The conservative sequence of FMDV internal ribosome entry site(IRES) was cloned into the downstream of pET32aCP bacteriophage gene to construct the prokaryotic expression vector pCPES.The recombinant plasmid pCPES transformed into E.coli strain BL21(DE3) was induced to express with 1mmol/L IPTG.The expression products were purified by sucrose density gradient centrifugation. The expression products observed by TEM were circular viruslike particles, and the diameter of these particles was about 26nm.The stability of viruslike particles was detected, and the viruslike particles was identified by RTPCR.The results showed that the viruslike particles contain the FMDV IRES RNA and have good stability. The viruslike particles have great prospect as the standard and quality control in the area of RNA virus detection.

120 strains of endophytic bacteria identified by ERIC-PCR were isolated from wild and cultivated Glycyrrhiza uralensis plants which collected from Erdos Innermongolia province. The identified results indicated that Glycyrrhiza uralensis plants has plenty of endophytic bacterium in density and population, and the density is higher in root and leave than in stem.Partial sequence analysis of 16S rDNA gene of 82 strains indicated that these strains were in a high similarity with 19 known genus which belong to?、?、 ?-Proteobacteria、Firmicutes and Actinobacteria. The dominant genus were Bacillus sp.,Pseudomonas sp., Pantoea sp.and Serratia sp..

Acta Academiae Medicinae Sinicae 2009;31(3):378-380
OBJECTIVETo explore the differentially expressed proteins between normal ovaries and ovarian cancer tissues using the protein chips.
METHODSTissues of 11 epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) and 11 matched normal ovaries were labeled with cy3 and cy5 fluorescent dyes and then were hybridized with 512 monoclonal protein antibody chips. The internally normalized ratio (INR) was calculated according to the intensity of fluorescence of each protein spots. The value of INR > 2.0 or < 0.7 was considered as the cut-value to filtrate the differentially expressed proteins between tissues of EOC and normal ovaries.
RESULTSThirty one differentially expressed proteins were found between tissues of EOC and normal ovaries, in which 17 up-regulated and 14 down-regulated proteins involved in the transcription, proliferation, signal conduction, and apoptosis of cells.
CONCLUSIONAntibody chips can effectively screen the differentially expressed proteins between normal ovaries and ovarian cancer tissues.
