AIM: To investigate the possible impact of conductive keratoplasty(CK)on intraocular pressure( IOP ).METHODS: 36 eyes of 20 patients with hyperopia underwent IOP measurement with non-contact tonometer (NCT), Goldmann applanation tonometer (GAT) and Schiotz tonometer before and after CK.RESULTS: After CK, a significant decrease was observed by NCT, GAT and Schiotz measurements. The change in IOP readings was not correlated with age, sex,keratometric readings, or attempted correction.CONCLUSION: The applanation tonometer atend to underestimate the true IOP after CK.

The effects of electrical and chemical stimulation of the vertral medial area of nucleus facialis (vMNF) on the myoelectric activities of genioglossus were observed in 26 urethane-anaesthetized and vagotomized rabbits. The results are as follows: (1) Long train electrical stimulation at the vMNF inhibitited the myoelectric activities of genioglossus markedly. (2) Microinjection of glutamate into the vMNF caused inhibitory response of the myoelectric activities of genioglossus. (3) When single pulse electrical stimulation on vMNF, measurement latency of genioglossus myoelectric activities was (20.6±0.4)ms. These results suggested that the excitation of vMNF could decrease the myoelectric activities of genioglossus so that the resistance of upper airway might be enhanced.

Objective To develop a new,three dimensional dynamic system for pulse detection.Methods According to bionics,a multi-information sensing mode with a soft surface is designed on the basis of traditional Chinese medical diagnosis in pulse.This mode imitates the touching sense of human finger and with the application of modern computer information processing technique,the pulse information is extracted in the way that is as close as possible to the traditional Chinese medicine pulse diagnosis.Results With the application of new sensor,pulse signal is detected and the effectiveness of the inovative three-dimension data transimition mode is validated since the pulse signal is three-dimensionally re-displayed on the computer screen.Conclusion The method introduced in this paper is proved feasible for detecting pulse information.Expected results are obtained and the method provides a new way and new feature reference for research and teaching in objectifying the diagnosis of traditional Chinese medical sciences.

Objective Currently, the effect of hydrogen peroxide solution( H2 O2 ) flush on the recovery of peripheral nerve injury are still undetermined. This study aims to explore the effects of different H2 O2 flushing time course on recovery of peripheral nerve injury during surgical debridement. Methods 18 New Zealand male white rabbits were randomly divided into isotonic saline group( isotonic saline flush) , H2 O21 min group ( hydrogen peroxide solution flush 1 min + isotonic saline flush) , H2 O23 min group ( H2 O2 flush 3 min + isotonic saline flush. Each group has 6 rabbits. We established rabbit sciatic nerve injury model. After 12 weeks, we executed the animals, drew materials at the suture nerve, detected motor nerve conduction velocity and observed pathological HE staining, as well as measuring the sciatic nerve function indexes( SFI) of rabbits at the 8th and 12th week, respectively. Results Nerve conduction velocity in H2O21min group and isotonic saline group[(25.89±1.42), (26.46±1.67) m/s] were higher than that in the H2O23min group[(23.80±2.91)m/s](P<0.05). Pathological section shows that the isotonic saline group has a better sheathstructure, nerve fibers structure damage is not obvious and myelin degeneration degree is mild in H2 O21 min group. blurred sheath structure and myelin axons obvious deformation in H2 O23 min group. 8 weeks and 12 weeks after operation, SFI in isotonic saline group [(-43.00±0.82), (-39.17±0.91) m/s] was significant higher than H2O21 min group [ (-49.79±1.47), (-46.60±0.79) m/s] and H2O23min group [(-51.66±1.27), (-46.39±0.94) m/s], thedifference was statistically significant (P<0.05). SFI in group of H2O21min [(-49.79±1.47)m/s] was higher than group og H2O23 min [(-51.66±1.27) m/s][P<0.05]. Conclusion H2O2 solution has side effect on the recovery of damaged peripheral nerve inju-ry and with prolonging the H2 O2 flushing time, the damage of peripheral nerve can be aggravated. So in the process of clinical surgical debridement, under the premise of guaranteed sterilization the time of H2 O2 flush should be shortened as far as possible.

Objective To observe the effect of CT-aided scalp surrounding needling on infraction dementia by retaining long time. Methods 53 infraction patients following dementia were randomly divided into treatment group (n=26) and control group (n=27). The control group was treated with CT-aided scalp surrounding needling for 30 minutes, while the treatment group was treated with CT-aided scalp surrounding needling for 3 hours. The course was 8 weeks. The therapeutic effect was assessed by Mini-Mental State Examination(MMSE), Hasegawa Dementia Scale(HDS-R) and Activities of Daily Living (ADL). Results The scores of ADL, MMSE, and HDS-R improved obviously after treatment in two groups (P<0.05), and the treatment group was better than the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion CT-aided scalp surrounding needling by retaining long time may facilitate to enhance the clinical effect on infarction dementia.

Objective To observe the changes of peptide YY (PYY) and its receptors in rats with ulcerative colitis (UC) by detecting both the serum level of PYY and jejunum epithelial cells in UC rats. Methods Rats were randomly divided into UC group, diarrhea-irritable bowel syndrome (D-IBS) group and control group. We measured the serum level of PYY by radioimmunoassay and made radioligand analysis of two basic parameters reflecting the characteristics of PYY receptors: dissociation constant (Kd) and maximum binding capacity (Bmax). Results The serum level of PYY was higher in UC and D-IBS groups than in normal group (P<0.001), and it was higher in UC group than in D-IBS group (P<0.001). However, the values of Kd and Bmax in UC group did not differ significantly from those in D-IBS and normal groups (P>0.05). Conclusion The serum level of PYY in UC group was significantly higher than that in normal group and D-IBS group; therefore, we assume that the change of serum PYY level may be related to not only the symptom of diarrhea but also inflammation. Kd and Bmax in neither UC group nor D-IBS group were significantly different from those in normal group, which indicates that the symptom and inflammation in UC may have nothing to do with the changes of PYY receptors.

Purpose To evaluate three-dimensional strain changes of the left ventricle in patients with type 2 diabetes and poor blood glucose control using real-time three-dimensional speckle tracking imaging (RT3D-STI), and to assess the correlation between three-dimensional strains and hemoglobin A1C (HbA1c). Materials and Methods Sixty-nine patients with type 2 diabetes and forty-two control subjects were recruited in this study. The patients were divided into DM1 group (patients with well blood glucose control, HbA1c<6.5%) and DM2 group (patients with poor blood glucose control, HbA1c ≥ 6.5%) according to the glycosylated hemoglobin level. Parameters including global longitudinal strain (GLS), global circumferential strain (GCS), global radial strain (GRS), global area strain (GAS), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), left ventricular end-diastolic volume (LVEDV), left ventricular end-systolic volume (LVESV) and left ventricular mass (LVM) were obtained from cardiac apex full volume images by using RT3D-STI. The parameters of three groups were compared, and the correlation between the cardiac parameters and HbA1c were analyzed. Results The GAS, GLS, GCS, GRS, LVEDV, LVESV, LVM and LVEF showed no statistic difference between DM1 group and control group (P>0.05). LVM of DM2 group was higher than that in control group (P<0.01), but GAS and GLS of DM2 group were lower than those in control group (P<0.05). LVM of DM2 group was higher than that in DM1 group (P<0.01), but GAS and GLS of DM2 group were lower than those in DM1 group (P<0.01). HbA1c was negative correlated with GAS and GLS (r= - 0.773 and 0.465, P<0.01). Conclusion The reduced GAS and GLS of the patients with type 2 diabetes and poor blood glucose control may indicate damaged myocardial function.

CardiovascuIar disease is the number one cause for morbidity and mortaIity worIdwide. Possi-biIities for new therapies in the emerging fieId of cardiac signaIIing prompted extensive research on myocardiaI re-modeIIing over the past decades. In this review,we as-sembIe an overview of the recent findings on the muIti-functionaI enzyme,p21-activated kinase 1( Pak1),a member of a serine/ threonine protein kinase famiIy in the heart,particuIarIy its cardiac protective effects. We pres-ent a modeI for Pak1 signaIing that provides a mecha-nism for specificaIIy affecting cardiac ceIIuIar processes. We discuss its cardiac protective effects such as anti-hy-pertrophy,anti-ischaemic injury and roIe in maintaining ventricuIar Ca2+ homeostasis and eIectrophysioIogicaI stabiIity under physioIogicaI, β-adrenergic and hyper-trophic stress conditions.We aIso discuss the potentiaIs of Pak1 activation by naturaIIy occurring sphingosine and its anaIogues FTY720,and bioactive peptides designed to diminish Pak1 auto-inhibition as noveI thera-peutics for major cardiovascuIar diseases.

Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of methotrexate(MTX) plus low dose glucocorticoid in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) from thetarget control point of view.Methods Patients diagnosed as RA according to American College of Rheumatology(ACR)/European League against Rheumatism (EULAR) 2010 classification criteria were enrolled.All of the patients were prescribed with 15 mg/week MTX,5 mg/week folic acid and prednisone (not exceeding 10 mg/day) orally.At week 0,4,12,disease activity and clinical efficacy were recorded.Co-primary assessment criterion was disease activityscore (DAS28)-based on C-reactive protein (CRP).Secondary assessment criteria included EULAR response criteria,ACR response criteria,simplified disease activity index(SDAI),clinical disease activity index(CDAI).The tolerability and toxicity of MTX was recorded at week 4,12.All patients were evaluated for the occurrence of adverse drug reactions associated with prednisone at week 12.Results A total of 76 patients were enrolled in the study.At week 4 and 12,68 and 65 patients completed regular follow-up respectively.At week 12,there were 30(46.2％),9(13.8％),26(40.0％) patients who met DAS28-CRP remission,low disease activity,middle and high disease activity criterion respectively.Three of nine patients who grouped in low disease activity after therapy were early or intermediate patients and didn't reach the target.Thus 36 (55.4％) patients met the standard of target control.The percentage of patients who met the criteria of EULAR good response,the ACR criteria for 20％ improvement (ACR20),the ACR criteria for 50％ improvement (ACR50),the ACR criteria for 70％ improvement (ACR70) were 29.2％,75.4％,69.2％,64.6％,respectively.The proportion of patients meeting the standard of treat to target using SDAI and CDAI were 76.9％,58.5％ respectively.The rate of liver injury,abdominal pain,abdominal distention and acid reflux,nausea were 11.8％,4.4％,4.4％,2.9％ respectively at week 4.At week 12,4.6％ of patients reported abdominal distention.There was only one patient (1.5％) each who complained of abdominal pain,nausea,loss of hair,varicella zoster virus infection and pulmonary infection at week 12.No serious adverse event was observed during the study.Conclusions Based on the view of target control,drug efficacy and safety,MTX plus low dose prednisone is still a useful therapeutic regimen for RA at present.

Objective To detect the routine coagulation indicators in breast cancer patients receiving the trastuzumab treatment and to analyze the influence of the coagulation indicators on clinical treatment response .Methods Totally 67 hospitalized breast cancer patients receiving the trastuzumab treatment in 401 Hospital of PLA from Jan .2006 to Dec .2012 were collected and divided into the effective group(47 cases) and ineffective group(20 cases) according to the curative effect .The levels of PT ,APTT ,TT ,Fib and D‐D were statistically analyzed .The differences of coagulation indicators were compared between the two groups .The correla‐tion between the coagulation indicators with the curative effect was analyzed .Results Compared with the effective group ,PT , APTT and TT in the ineffective group were slightly extended ,while the D‐D level was slightly increased ,the differences were not statistically significant(P> 0 .05);but the Fib level was significantly increased with statistical difference(P< 0 .05) .Conclusion The breast cancer patients with ineffectiveness in the trastuzumab treatment are easily appear the high Fib status .Determining its plas‐ma concentration is conducive to judge the prognosis of the trastuzumab treatment in breast cancer patients .
