BACKGROUND: Cytokine abnormality, nerve function abnormality and hormone levels may contribute to osteoporosis occurrence following spinal cord injury (SCI), many papers are about cytokine and hormone, but fewer is related to abnormal nerve function on bone accommodation.OBJECTIVE: To innovatively apply blood biochemistry and immunohistochemistry on the observation of change of calcitonin gene-related peptide distributing in trabecular bone of SCI rats, and to analyze its significance in the osteoporosis. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: Randomized control animal trials were performed from September 2008 to December 2008 at the laboratory of Orthopedic Institute in the Fourth Military Medical University of Chinese PLA,MATERIALS: Forty-eight Sprague Dawley rats aged 3 months, weighing (210:1:16) g, were divided into SCI group and control group equally. METHODS: Rats in the SCI group underwent spinal cord transection at the tenth thoracic vertebrae. Control rats underwent laminectomy without any spinal cord lesion. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Each 8 rats were sacrificed at 1, 3, 6 weeks postoperatively. The serum concentrations of bone-specific alkaline phosphotase and serum cross-linked N-telopeptide of type Ⅰ collagen were determined. The stain intensity of calcitonin gene-related peptide in trabacular bone was determined with use of quantitative immunohistochemistry technique and computer image analysis system.RESULTS: The cross-linked N-telopeptida of type Ⅰ collagen significantly increased in SCI group at defferent interval compared with control group (P <0.05 or 0.01 ), serum concentrations of bone-specific alkaline phosphotase was lower than control group,without significant difference (P > 0.05). Immunoreactivity of calcitonin gene-related peptide in trabecular bone was strongly positive in control group, while weakened in SCI group (P < 0.05 or 0.01).CONCLUSION: Reduced calcitonin gene-related peptide in trabecular bone of SCI rats may be related to the occurrence of osteoporosis following SCI.

Objective To investigate the efficacy of amplitude-integrated electroencephalographic (aEEG)in evaluating the maturation of cerebral function in preterm infants.Methods Ninety one neurologically normal and clinically stable preterm infants admitted to neonatal intensive care unit were studied prospectively by using aEEG.Background of aEEG activity patterns,presence of sleep-wake cycles,and the lower and higher border were analyzed.Results 112 aEEG were analyzed.The sleep-wake cycle and the continuity became more mature with PMA increased.The lower border were increased and the higher border were decreased with PMA increased(r =0.982,P ＜ 0.01 ; r =-0.964,P＜0.01).Conclusion In preterm infants,aEEG is a useful tool to evaluate the maturation of cerebral function.

Objective To study the efficacy of external dissection & internal ligation for beating mixed hemorrhoids, and compare with Milligan-Morgan. Methods One hundred and twenty-six patients with mixed hemorrhoids were divided into two groups: treatment group(66 cases)and controlled group(60cases).In treatment group used external dissection & internal ligation for treating mixed hemorrhoids, but in eontrolled group used Milligan-Morgan. Then the differences between both groups in healing time of wound surface, as well in the statuses of bleeding, pain, edema, anus stenosis, and anus overflow liquid were observed. Results Averaged healing time in treatment group was significantly shorter than that in controlled group, (8.2±2.6)days vs (17.4±3.8)days, P＜0.01.The anus stenosis and anus overflow liquid were significantly less in treatment group than those in controlled group, P＜0.01.Conclusion External dissection & internal ligation of hemorrhoids for treating mixed hemorrhoids decreases anal transitional zone(ATZ)disorganization, shorten healing time, and significantly decreases crissum scar,protectes anus function effectively.

Objective To determine the serum level of KL-6 in patients with polymyositis(PM)and dermatomyositis(DM),and to investigate the possible diagnostic value for interstitial lung diseases(ILD)in pa- tients with PM/DM.Methods Serum KL-6 concentrations were measured by ELISA in 53 adult PM/DM pa- tients,the control groups of 22 patients with infectious lung disease,and 50 healthy subjects.The association with clinical features and serum KL-6 levels was analyzed.Results The serum levels of KL-6 were(1543?761)、(429?106)、(336?196)and(289?105)U/ml in PM/DM patients with ILD and without ILD,patients with infectious lung disease and healthy controls,respectively.Serum KL-6 levels in the PM/DM patients with ILD were significantly higher compared with PM/DM patients without ILD,patients with infectious lung disease and healthy controls(all P＜0.01 ).However,no significant differences of serum KL-6 levels was found among PM/ DM patients without ILD,patients with infectious lung disease and healthy controls(P＞0.05).Significant cor- relations were found between the elevated levels of serum KL-6 and the presence of ILD in patients with PM/ DM(P＜0.01).The sensitivity and specificity of serum abnormal KL-6 levels for ILD in patients with PM/DM were 90.9% and 80.6%.Additionally,follow-up study showed the mean serum levels of KL-6 in six patients who died were significantly higher than that in other PM/DM patients with ILD(P＜0.01).Conclusion Serum KL-6 level is a reliable serum marker for ILD in idiopathic inflammatory myopathies,which may contribute to early differentiate ILD from lung infectious disease.Increased serum level of KL-6 may predict a poor out- come.

Objective To establish the method for detemining the content of ephedrine hydrochloride in Zhike Pingchuan Tangjiang by HPLC. Methods Diamonsil ODS1 C_(18) Column was used with acetonitrile -0.1% phosphoric solution (with 0.1% triehylamine) (3 : 97) as the mobile phase, the detection wavelength as 205 nm, and flow rate was 1.0 mL/min. Results The calibration curve was linear at the range of 0.12～ 0.96 ?g for ephedrine hydrochloride and linear equation was Y= 109759X+3792.8, r=0.9998. The average recovery was 98.4% and RSD was 0.87% (n =5). Conclusion This method was simple, accurate and proper, with good reproducibility. It can be used for quantitative analysis of ephedrine hydrochloride in Zhike Pingchuan Tangjiang.

Objective To investigate the expression of IL-10 and IL-6 in tissue and plasma of subtypes lymphoma and its significance. Methods Immunohistochemical technique and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) were used to assess the expression of IL-10 and IL-6 in 97 cases paraffin tissue and plasma samples from different subtypes of lymphoma.Results Expression of IL-10 and IL-6 was positive in all lymphoma tissue samples, but there is no significant difference among different subtypes lymphoma (x2 =0.815, x2 =0.542, P ＞ 0.05). Tumor samples were found positive IL-10 and IL-6 expression in macrophages and vascular endothelial cells by immunohistochemistry respectively. Expression of IL-10 and IL-6 in plasma of lymphoma were higher than that in control respectively [(232.57±191.59) pg/ml vs (59.12±68.35) pg/ml,(80.70±89.68) pg/ml vs (45.68±33.66) pg/ml],with significant difference (t =6.968,t =2.896,P ＜0.05).IL-10 and IL-6 plasma levels increased with enhanced expression in lymphoma (x2 =0.815,x2 =0.542,P ＜ 0.05).Which was found to be correlated with each other (rs =0.394,P ＜ 0.05). Conclusion The expression of IL-10 and IL-6 had been found at various degrees in tissues and plasma of lymphoma.IL-10 and IL-6 in plasma of lymphoma were higher than that in controls. These results showed that IL-10 and IL-6 may cooperate in vivo with lymphoma cell proliferation and infiltrate. IL-6 and IL-10 maybe served as useful indicators for diagnosis of lymphoma.

Objective To investigate the influence of Xiyanping injections therapy on inflammation factors and lung function for old patients with acute exacerbation chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD).Methods Ninety-two patients with AECOPD were randomly divided into the control group (n =46) and observation group(n =46).Patients in control group were given conventional treatment,in observation group were given XiYanPing injections for 2 weeks treatment on the basis of treatment of control group.The C-reactive protein(CRP),blood sedimentation rate (ESR),interleukin 10 (IL-10),1 s forced expiratory volume (FEV1),forced vital capacity (FVC),FEV1/FVC change and clinical effect of the two groups were recorded.Results There was no statistically significant difference in terms of CRP,ESR and IL-10 between the two groups before treatment (P ＞ 0.05).After treatment,CRP and ESR in control group were reduced from (35.6 ±9.8) mg/L and (56.2 ± 16.4) mm/h to (14.2 ± 8.1) mg/L and (22.4 ± 11.6) mm/1 h and the difference was significant (t =-14.515,-12.008;P ＜ 0.05),while in observation group decreased from (36.4 ± 8.2) mg/L,(54.6 ± 15.4) to (8.2 ± 6.2) mg/L,(16.8 ± 9.6) mm/h and the difference was significant (t =-18.468,-15.249;P ＜ 0.05).Meanwhile,the level of IL-10 in the two groups significantly increased and the observation group showed more.IL-10 in control group increased from (168.8 ± 62.4) ng/L to (212.4 ± 85.6) ng/L and the difference was significant(t =5.468,P ＜ 0.05),and in observation group increased from (172.8 ± 65.1) ng/L to (266.4 ± 92.6) ng/L and the difference was significant (t =6.368,P ＜ 0.05).The FEV1 and FVC were markedly increased after treatment and the observation group showed increase more.FEV1and FVC in control group were increased from (1.41 ±0.15) L and (2.62 ±0.88) L to (1.62 ± 0.18) L and (2.89 ± 0.92) L,and the differences were significant (t =2.186,2.415 ; P ＜ 0.05).While in observation group,FEV1 and FVC were increased from (1.42 ± 0.16) L and (2.59 ± 0.84) L to (1.84 ±0.21) L and (3.12 ± 0.94) L,and the differences were significant (t =4.366,4.585 ; P ＜ 0.05).Total efficacy of observation group was 91.3％ (42/46),obviously higher than that of control group(78.3％ (36/46) ; x2 =4.658 ;P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion Xiyanping injections can reduce the inflammatory response in patients with AECOPD,improve lung function and the effect of treatment.

? Choroidal neovascularization is the primary pathogenesis of neovascularage - related macular degeneration ( nAMD ) , and the role of vascular endothelial growth factor ( VEGF ) in neovascularization has been widely recognized. Currently, drugs target different targets of VEGF have been widely used in the treatment of nAMD. As a subtype of VEGF, placental growth factor ( PlGF) has synergistic effects with VEGF-A on promoting angiogenesis, stimulating the migration of endothelial cell proliferation and mediating immune inflammatory response. There is no expression of PlGF in mature blood vessels so PlGF hashigh specificity. ln this paper, the role of PlGF in the pathogenesis and treatment of nAMD is reviewed.
