Objective To assess the clinical values of MR angiography(MRA)in the detection of deep vein thrombosis of the lower limbs.Methods Two-dimensional time of flight(2D TOF)MRA was performed in thirty patients who were suspected of having deep vein thrombosis in the lower limbs.The findings of MRA were compared to that of digital subtraction angiography(DSA).Results twenty-five cases showed deep vein thrombosis in the lower limbs,the MRA findings included venous filling defect (14 cases),occlusions and interruptions of veins(8 cases),venous recanalizations(3 cases),collateral veins(25 cases).Taking the results of DSA as a golden standard,MRA detected all of the affected cases with only one case as the false positive.Conclusion 2D TOF MRA is a method of choice in the diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis of the lower limbs.

OBJECTIVEAn electric monitor of bruxism had been invented in order to evaluate the curative effect of cuspid occlusal upheaving splint and stabilization splint.

METHODS20 patients with bruxism were randomly divided into two groups. A cuspid occlusal upheaving splint or a stabilization splint was fabricated respectively for patients. The vertical dimension for each splint was 0.5 mm lower than mandibular postural position. Sleeping time, bruxist time and times of bruxism were recorded with bruxism monitor that was invented for studying bruxing.

RESULTSThe bruxist time and the times of bruxism were decreased obviously in patients with cuspid occlusal upheaving splint, while no significant difference was shown before and after using the stabilization splint.

CONCLUSIONSThe bruxism monitor can automatically measure and record the data of bruxism with splint, which is valuable for clinic. The curative effect of cuspid occlusal upheaving splint is better than that of stabilization splint for treating bruxism.

The effects of pretreatment of supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) on the supramolecular structure of cellulose and the cellulase catalyzed reaction were investigated. The cellulase activity was not affected when it was treated with SC-CO2 at 10MPa and at 50 degrees C for 30 min. But when the cellulase was treated by SC-CO2 in the presence of cellulose, the catalytic activity of the cellulase was lost. The cellulose pretreated with or without cellulase under the same SC-CO2 condition was then hydrolyzed with tresh crude cellulase. The final reducing sugar yield from the hydrolysis of the cellulose pretreated with cellulase was higher than that of the cellulose pretreated without cellulase. It was also found that the improvement of the enzymolysis had a direct relevance with the amount of cellulase used during the SC-CO2 pretreatment. The moisture content of cellulose before SC-CO2 pretreatment had an obvious influence on the subsequent enzymolysis. When the moisture content of cellulose was 60% (W/W), the reducing sugar yield was higher than when the moisture content was over 100% (W/W). The FT-IR spectra showed that the structure of the cellulose pretreated with cellulase under the SC-CO2 condition was different from that of the cellulose pretreated without cellulase. In the presence of the enzyme, the strength of the hydrogen bonds and the I beta phase at 710cm(-1) in the crystalline cellulose was weakened. These results suggest that the change in the cellulose structure induced by the SC-CO2 treatment favous the subsequent enzymolysis.

Objective To establish the test way of latex enhanced immune turbidimetric method for the concentration detection of urine free hemoglobin on the automatic biochemical analyzer,and evaluated the detection performance.Methods Prepared the detection reagents of latex enhanced immune turbidimetry method for detection of urine free hemoglobin with materials such as hemoglobin HBA0 antibody (8.5 mg/ml),80 nm carboxylic olystyrene latex microspheres (estapor,nanometer microspheres) and so on.Then,seted the project parameters on TBA120 automatic biochemical analyzer and proceeded the calibrations.Evaluated the detection performance by accuracy,precision,linear range,sensitivity,specificity and other indicators.Lastly,established the biological reference interval for urine free hemoglobin of healthy people in the region and verified it.Results To seted the project parameters on TBA120 automatic biochemical analyzer and passed the calibration.The calibration fitting curve had a smooth trend and no obvious deviation with each measuring point.In the recovery tests,added standard liquid with different concentrations of 100 mg/L and 500 mg/L to the samples with low values,the recovery rate was 95.3％ and 102.7％ respectively.Same to the samples with high values,the recovery rate was 104.2％ and 103.5％ respectively.In the precision test,samples with low and high value had a precision CV of 6.52％ and 4.18％ respectively.The linear range was 0 ～ 1 100 mg/L,analysis sensitivity was 2.8 mg/L.In the interference test,found that,samples had no obvious disturbance to the test with lower concentrations of free bilirubin,combined with bilirubin,vitamin C,animal hemoglobin lower than 342 μmol/L,342 μmol/L,0.03 g/L,500 mg/L respectively,while had significant interference when the concentration of chyle was higher than 870 FTU.Their study had established the biological reference interval of healthy people,male was 0～ 13.3 mg/L and female 0 ～ 17.1 mg/L,there was no significant difference between them by a t test (P＞0.05).Conclusion The latex enhanced immune turbidimetric method for the detection of urine free hemoglobin has the performance of testing clinical urine specimen,which not only solved the lackage problem of specificity for occult blood in the urine dry chemistry test and realized batch automation quantitative detection.The experimental data of this study provides a theoretical basis for the application of the method in other types of clinical samples.

BACKGROUNDUsing magnetic resonance imaging, diagnosis of malignant meningioma from benign meningioma with atypical features is uncertain. We evaluated the value of lipid signal in differentiating intracranial meningiomas.

METHODS1H-magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) using a point resolved spectroscopy (TR/TE 1000/144 ms) sequences were performed on 34 patients on a 3.0 T scanner. Lipid peak located at 1.3 ppm was evaluated. MRS data from these tumours were compared with histopathological findings (including hematoxylin and eosin staining and KP-1 staining).

RESULTSTwenty-nine meningiomas were histologically benign (eleven meningothelial, thirteen fibrous, four transitional and one microcystic), three were atypical, and two were anaplastic. Lipid signal was detected in ten cases: two anaplastic, three atypical, two fibrous and three meningothelial meningiomas. All voxels with lipid peak in the spectrum from the tumour were evaluated. With creatinine peak in the normal white matter chosen as internal standard, lipid/creatinine ratios of anaplastic, atypical and benign meningiomas were 0.844 +/- 0.027 (range from 0.725 to 0.994), 0.465 +/- 0.023 (range from 0.239 to 0.724), and 0.373 +/- 0.016 (range from 0.172 to 0.571) respectively. Highly significant differences were noted between anaplastic and the other two subtypes. Patchy necrosis was observed in anaplastic meningioma, while focal necrosis was noted in atypical meningioma with HE stain. However, no necrosis was found in benign group. KP-1 stain demonstrated histocytes containing lipids in the necrotic region of anaplastic and atypical meningioma.

CONCLUSIONThe lipid signal at 1.3 ppm is a useful marker in evaluating the malignancy of intracranial meningiomas, especially in the differential diagnosis of anaplastic meningioma.

Objective To understand the schistosomiasis control knowledge,attitude,and practice(KAP),and influenc-ing factors of behaviors among residents in Jiangsu Province,so as to provide the evidence for making effective health education and health promotion models. Methods The probability proportionate to size sampling(PPS)and multi-stage sampling meth-ods were adopted to sample the research objects. A questionnaire survey of schistosomiasis control KAP was conducted in the res-idents of 16 to 69 years old in schistosomiasis endemic areas of Jiangsu Province,and the results were statistically analyzed. Re-sults The total awareness rate of the participants was 95.98%for schistosomiasis control knowledge. The correct rates of atti-tude and practice were 89.06%and 77.43%,respectively. The awareness/correct rates of knowledge,attitude and practice re-duced in turns significantly(χ2=1282.96,P<0.01). The knowledge awareness rate of fishermen and boatmen was 90.98%, but their attitude correct rate was only 53.81%(χ2=120.52,P<0.01). The unconditional logistic regression analysis showed that with the education level increasing,their practice correct rate rose,and the participants with the college degree or above had a higher correct rate compared to illeterate ones(OR=6.411,95%CI:4.896-8.395). The practice correct rate of the fisher-men and boatmen was only 5.1%of the rate of the farmers(OR=0.051,95%CI:0.029-0.091). Conclusions The total aware-ness rate of basic knowledge of schistosomiasis prevention and control in the residents of Jiangsu Province has reached the re-quirements in the"National Schistosomiasis Control Long-term Planning Outline(2004-2015)",but the correct rate of behav-iors is low. The education level,occupation and residential areas affect the health behaviors of schistosomiasis prevention and control. Therefore,it is necessary to carry out targeted health promotion activities to promote the formation of healthy lifestyle and behaviors.

OBJECTIVETo explore the relationship between clinical ischemic events and carotid calcification detected by 64 slices CT angiography.

METHODSWe retrospectively analyzed the carotid calcified plaques in 116 patients underwent the 64 slices CT angiography. The relationship between the carotid calcification and the clinical ischemic events was analyzed.

RESULTSA total of 377 plaques were detected and the incidence of carotid plaque calcification was 63.40%. Incidence of plaque calcification was significantly lower in patients with ages < 50 years than that in patients with ages 51 - 59 years, 60 - 69 years and higher than 70 years (P = 0.003, P = 0.002, P = 0.000, respectively). The incidence of plaque calcification in the common carotid artery was significantly lower than the carotid bifurcation (P = 0.000) and the internal carotid artery (P = 0.000). The incidences of calcification in the mild, moderate and severe degree of stenosis and occlusion were 46.54%, 33.33%, 26.67% and 0% respectively. The distribution of intraplaque calcium was similar between patients with ischemic event and non-ischemic event group. However, the incidence of calcification was significantly lower patients with ischemic event than that in patients without ischemic event (30.34% vs. 43.10%, P = 0.013). Calcified plaque was negatively associated with ischemic event (beta = -0.688, P = 0.006).

CONCLUSION64 slices CT angiography can analyze the characterization of carotid plaque calcium.

BACKGROUNDMany studies have shown that cancer cell differentiation and microvascular invasion play a principle role in cancer progression and metastasis, and non-invasive imaging techniques such as CT, MRI and US assessing the differentiation and the surgical resectibility and the prognosis of cancers are now of great importance. This study aimed to explore the correlation of triple-phase multi-slice CT scan with the histological differentiation and intratumor microvascular/lymphatic invasion of progressive gastric cancer.

METHODSThe present study included 64 patients with gastric cancer, all of whom underwent routinal and dual-phase contrast enhancement multi-slice CT examinations of the upper abdomen before surgery. The post-operative specimens were used for determination of histological differentiation, cancer cell invasion of intratumoral microvascular/lymphatic vessel identified by CD34 and D2-40 expression. Correlations between contrast enhancement ratio (CER) of triple-phase multi-slice CT scan in gastric cancer and histological differentiation as well as intratumoral microvascular/lymphatic invasion were compared and analyzed.

RESULTSThere was a significant correlation between CER of triple-phase CT scan in gastric cancer and tumor histological differentiation (P < 0.05). CER of the arterial phase in gastric cancer with intratumoral microvascular invasion was significantly higher than that without invasion (0.61 ± 0.28 vs. 0.46 ± 0.14, P < 0.05); CER of the arterial-parenchymal phase was significantly lower in gastric cancer with intratumoral microvascular invasion than that without invasion (1.81 ± 0.39 vs. 2.28 ± 0.80, P < 0.05). However, CER of the parenchymal phase in gastric cancer with intratumoral lymphatic invasion was significantly higher than that without invasion (1.25 ± 0.57 vs. 1.00 ± 0.35, P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONSCER of triple-phase multi-slice CT scan in gastric cancer is closely correlated with intratumoral microvascular and lymphatic invasion, and also could be used as a marker for histological differentiation.

Objective To explore the correlations between monocyte immunodepression andthe levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) and fibrinogen (Fg) in patients with severe acute stroke. MethodsThis prospective study involved 53 consecutive patients admitted in the neurological intensive care unit(NICU) within 24 h after stroke onset. Blood samples were collected serially on days 1, 2, 4, 6 and 14after stroke to determine monocytic HLA-DR expression using flow cytometry. CRP and Fg weredetected on day 2 after the admission, and Graph_Pad PRISM 4.0 software was used to analyze thecorrelations among the variables. Thirty-nine concurrent patients admitted in the general ward, whocomplained dizziness without magnetic resonance imaging evidence of acute stroke, were enrolled toserve as the control group. Results The levels of CRP and Fg in the stroke group were significantlyhigher than those in the control group (P<0.05). The CRP and Fg levels were both found to inverselycorrelate to monocytic HLA-DR expression at different observational points. The correlations of CRP andFg to HLA-DR expression were the most obvious on day 2 and 4 after admission (r=-0.419, P=0.001;r=-0.434, P=0.001), respectively. Conclusion Immunosuppression of the monocytes in patients withsevere acute stroke is probably associated with the inflammatory reaction after stroke.

BACKGROUNDThis study aimed to investigate multi-slice CT contrast-enhanced presentation of gastric cancer and its correlation with histo-differentiation and p53 and P-glycoprotein (P-gp) expression.

METHODSSixty-six patients with gastric cancer in the present study underwent a multi-slice CT preoperative routine and dual-phase contrast-enhanced examination of the upper abdomen; postoperative specimens were used to determine histo-differentiation and the expression of p53 and P-gp. The correlation of multi-slice CT contrast-enhanced presentation with histo-differentiation and expression of p53 and P-gp was analyzed.

RESULTSThe dual-phase contrast-enhanced ratio (CER) was not correlated with the histo-differentiation of gastric cancer (P > 0.05). Positive expression of p53 and P-gp was significantly higher in the cases of layered or heterogeneous enhancement than in the cases of homogenous enhancement (P < 0.05). Positive expression of p53 was also correlated with the arterial phase CER, tumor size and lymph node metastasis (P < 0.05), but not with infiltration thickness of the gastric wall, nor was it correlated with the portal phase CER (P > 0.05). Positive expression of P-gp was only correlated with the portal phase CER (P = 0.005).

CONCLUSIONSDifferently enhanced pattern and CER of the arterial and portal phase in gastric cancer correlate with its different histo-differentiation and expression of p53 and P-gp respectively. In addition, tumor size and lymph node metastasis of gastric cancer relate to the expression of p53.
