Objective To investigate the clinical and laborat ory characteristics of SARS patients complicated with underlying diseases.Methods 1 291 patients clinically diagnosed as SARS defined by Chinese Ministry of Health reported in Beijing area were analyzed retrospect ively in our study.Results In 1 291 cases,there were 27.5% patients with unde rlying diseases,in which,65.6% cases were 40 years or older.There were 72.5% p atients without underlying diseases,in which,74.6% cases were 40 years or young er.Hypertension,diabetes mellitus and coronary heart disease were the most commo n underlying diseases of SARS.Clinical symptoms and signs of SARS in underlying diseases group were more than that in without underlying diseases group (P

Objective To evaluate the anatomical and functional results of retinotomy in treatment of complicated retinal detachment. Methods Twenty three eyes were treated with retinectomy during vitrectomy for complicated retinal detachment with proliferative vitreoretinopathy when complete reattachment of retina was not obtained despite careful mambrane peeling. After released the peripheral vitreoretinal contraction or pulled subretinal membranes, perfluorocarbon liquid injection, laser retinopexy and silicone oil tamponade were performed. Retinotomy size ranged from 30 degree to 360 degree (average 132 degree). Results Retinal attachment were obtained in all of the operated eyes at the end of the operation. Silicone oil was removed from 15 eyes (65.0%) within 3～11 months postoperatively. After a minimum follow up of 6 months, the retinae were completely attached in 17 eyes ( silicone oil was not removed in 4 eyes ) and visual acuity of 0.02 or better was obtained in 11 eye (48.0%). Recurrent retinal detachment occurred in 2 eyes in which the silicone oil had been removed. The major complications were recurrence of the proliferation in 6 eyes (26.0%) and hypotony in 3 eyes (13.0%). Conclusion Retinotomy is beneficial to reattach the retina for eyes with advanced proliferative vitreoretinopathy in seemingly inoperable cases.

In recent 30 years, it was approved that extracorporeal shock wave (ESW) is effective on musculoskeletal disorders. Hypertonia is a common complication in patients suffered from central nervous system lesion. Recently, there were several literatures report hypertonia can be treated with ESW. This paper reviewed the research in basic principle of ESW and its use on hypertonia.

Objective To investigate the application of the ultrasonic guidance-assisted neonatal internal jugular vein catheterization.Methods Sixty two newborns (including low birth weight infants) receving thoracic/abdominal operation or resection of malignant tumor on the body-surface were randomly assigned to ultrasound guidance (UG) group or surface mark landmark(S) group.Newborns in both groups were all punctured with 22G venous indwelling needles to place the external casing,followed by the steel wire guidance-assisted implantation of ARROW 4F dual chamber central venous catheter.Then we compared the rate of successful insertion attempt,rate of malpositioning,complications and average operation time between the two groups.Results The rate of successful insertion attempt was 96.8%(30/31) in the UG group,significantly higher than that in the S group (32.3%,10/31),there was significant difference between the two groups(χ2=28.182,P=0.000).Malpositioning happened in 2 cases in the UG group,but 25 cases in the S group.Rate of complications was higher in the S group compared to the UG group (64.5% vs 3.2%,χ2=25.99,P=0.000).Most importantly,the average operation time was (4.366±1.137)min in the UG group,significantly shorter than that of the S group [(13.70±5.34)min,t=5.463,P=0.028)].ConclusionUltrasound guidance-assisted catheterization for neonatal internal jugular vein is safe and feasible and can dramatically improve the success rate and prevent complications.

Purpose To investigate the expression level and the role of TUSC7 in human cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM).Methods Quantitative real time-PCR (qRT-PCR) assay was performed to detect the expression of TUSC7 in 60 cases of CMM tissues,20 cases of benign nevus,4 CMM cell lines,and one normal human epidermal melanocytes.Then overexpression of TUSC7 was performed and its role in tumor progression was explored.Results TUSC7 expression was significantly downregulated in primary CMM tissues (n =60) compared to benign nevi (n =20),which were significantly downregulated in all the four melanoma cell lines,especially in A375 cells,compared with the normal melanocytes cells (all P ＜ 0.05).In comparison with the A375 cells transfected with the empty plasmid,those transfected with pcDNA-TUSC7 showed an obvious decrease in the proliferation and colony formation activity,while increase in the apoptosis rate (all P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion Our results suggested that the dysregulation of TUSC7 may play an important role in the CMM progression.

Pronunciation obstacle is one of the characteristics of hearing and speech disabled persons. As the main organ of pronunciation,tongue plays an important role in pronunciation training. If the pronunciation visualization is applied to rehabilitation training, this can make the hearing and speech disabled persons intuitively watch the change of the tongue in the process of pronunciation, which may promote the rehabilitation training. On the basis of tongue anatomical structure and movement characteristics, the common movements of tongue in pronunciation are realized after the establishment of three-dimensional tongue muscle model and the relevant data of the tongue Xray images and electropalatography. Using this kind of visualization technology, we can help correction and rehabilitation for the hearing and speech disabled persons.

Objective To prepare hybrid substrate and apply it to detect thiram with surface-enhanced Raman spectros-copy( SERS) which provides unique molecular vibration information .Methods The Au substrate was prepared by deposi-tion of gold film on the silver substrate that had a rough surface .The Au substrate was treated with amination as a linker with the silver sol before the hybrid substrate was formed .With PATP as a probe molecule ,the Raman intensity of PATP on the Au substrate and the hybrid substrate was compared ,respectively .Results and Conclusion PATP had stronger Raman intensity on hybrid substrate than on the Au , and the detection limit was 10 -9 mol/L.This method can be used for quanti-tative detection on the hybrid substrate by SERS .

Objective To investigate the changes of brain volumes in neuromyelitis optica (NMO)patients using voxel-based morphometry (VBM) method, and preliminarily explore the pattern of cerebral anatomical impairment. Methods Twenty-three clinically defined NMO patients and 15 gender and age matched healthy volunteers underwent 3-dimensional (3D) fast spoiled gradient echo (FSPGR) sequence scanning on 3.0 Tesla MR systen. Raw data was processed and analyzed using statistical parametric mapping (SPM) 5. Whole brain volumes included grey matter volume (GMV), white matter volume (WMV), total intracranial volume (TIV), grey matter fraction (GMF), white matter fraction (WMF),brain tissue fraction (BTF) and regional brain volumes between the two groups were compared by independent samples t-test and an Pearson were performed to compare the regional brain volumes and the ages. Results GMV of NMO group[(610. 2 ± 55.0) ml] was significantly decreased comparing to healthy control group[(657. 2 ± 36. 3) ml] (t = - 2. 915, P ＜ 0. 05). The age of NMO patients [(40 ± 9) years old] showed negative correlation with GMF [(42. 5 ± 2. 6) %] (r = - 0. 673, P ＜ 0. 05). Regional brain volume analysis showed decreased GMV in left insula and bilateral posterior cingutates in NMO patients,while decreased WMV was found in left frontal and left parietal white matter. Conclusion VBM could detect brain volume changes sensitively. Total grey matter volume in NMO patients was decreased comparing to HC group. Regional grey matter atrophy in NMO patients occurred in left insular and bilateral posterior cingutates, regional white matter atrophy occurred in left frontal and left parietal lobe.

Objective To explore the effect of spinal decompression system on lumbar disc herniation. Methods 83 patients of lumbar disc herniation were divided into observation group (n=42) and control group (n=41). Both groups received massage therapy, while the observation group was treated with spinal decompression system in addition. The effect was evaluated with Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) assessment of low back pain. Results The VAS score decreased and the JOA score increased in both groups after treatment (P<0.05), and it was better in the observation group than in the control group (P<0.01). Conclusion Spinal decompression system could improve the therapeutic effect on lumbar disc herniation.
