AIM To investigate the effect of allicin on the regulation of VEGF mRNA expression in human hepatocellular carcinoma cells. METHODS Hepatocellular carcinoma cells were treated with the concentration 10 ?g?L -1 allicin in culture medium,and then the relative VEGF mRNA level at 8 h in human hepatocellular carcinoma cells was evaluated by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction using HPRT(hypoxanthine phosphoribosyltransferase)as an internal control standard. Baculovirus DNA polymerase gene belongs to an early gene of baculovirus. It is a necessary gene required for replication of virus in insect cells. It can encode DNA polymerase induced by virus. In the process of replication, DNA polymerase can bind to homologous regions and non-homologous regions, which are believed to act as the origins of virus DNA replication with other replication factors. In addition, DNA polymerase has advantages over occlusion protein and egt gene for resolving deep branching taxonomic relationships of baculovirus phylogenies.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the value of estimating chronologic age based on the grades of mandibular third molar development. To evaluate whether mandibular third molar could be used as an indicator for estimating the age under or over 18 years. METHODS: The mineralization status of mandibular third molar of 1 845 individuals aged 10 - 30 was graded and marked based on Demirjian's classification of grades reformed by Orhan. Gender difference was examined by t-test. A cubic regression model was established to analyze the correlation between third molar and chronologic age. Each grade of age cumulative distribution diagram and ROC curve was respectively performed to evaluate the relationship between third molar and the age of 18. Using Bayes discriminant analysis, an equation was established for estimating the age of 18. RESULTS: The inner-rater reliability was 0.903. Statistical analysis showed a moderate correlation between age and grade. Significant differences of both genders were found only in grade D and H (P < 0.05). Males at the grades from 1 to D and females at the grades from 1 to C were under 18 years old, and both males and females at grade H were over 18 years old. The area under the ROC curve was 0.797 (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Third molar development shows a high correlation with age, and combined with other indicators, it can be used to estimate the age of 18.

Quality education and innovative ability cultivation of students are a new position in higher education.Exploring exper- iment was applied in teaching of microbiological experiment for enhancing integrative diathesis and cultivating innovative spirit and ability of students.The practice has been proved that learning fervor of students was increased adequately.Unaided operation abili- ty,integrative analysis ability and innovative idea were enhanced,too.Accordingly,teaching quality of microbiological experiment was improved.

Objective: Based on nationwide cardiovascular surgery registry database, to analyze the current status and future development of minimally invasive cardiovascular surgery (MICS) in China.
Methods: There were 45 institutions from 19 provinces nationwide involved in Chinese cardiovascular surgery technique registry study. A total of 16480 adult patients with cardiovascular surgery from 2010-09 to 2012-03 were divided into 2 groups, Conventional surgery group, n=14503 and MICS group, n=1977. The basic clinical conditions were analyzed and compared between 2 groups in order to explore the current status and future development of MICS in China.
Results: Compared with Conventional surgery group, the patients in MICS group had the younger age, better and stable pre-operative condition. In MICS group, compared with 4 other common procedures, the patients who received hybrid procedure had obviously shorter cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) time, aortic occlusion time, ventilator using time, ICU and in-hospital stay time, meanwhile decreased post-operative drainage volume;except for Robotic surgery, it required less red blood cells and plasma at during and post-operative time, all P<0.01. There were 12 (0.6%) in-hospital death in MICS group, the total complication rate was at 4%.
Conclusion: MICS are widely used in China, its short-term safety and efifcacy are conifrmed. Upon cardiovascular disease spectrum changing, the MICS procedures will be adjusted accordingly.
