Objective To explore the attentional biases in individuals with different types of obsessivecompulsive symptom and the correlations between the attentional bias of high obsessive compulsive symptom (HOC) and symptoms. Methods 22 individuals with HOC and 38 individuals with low obsessive compulsive (LOC) symptom completed the Chinese Emotional Stroop task that assessed the attentional bias. Comparisons were made between HOC and LOC and in different types of HOC, and the correlations between the attentional bias of HOC and symptom severity scores were searched for. Results The comparison between HOC and LOC on the reaction time of neutral, negative and disgust-related words were not significant. The contamination/washing subtype in HOC showed faster reaction time on negative and disgust-related words compared to that of neutral words, and its attentional bias exhibited significant correlation with symptom severity scores( r= -0. 648, P=0. 031 ). Conclusion Such information point out the contamination/washing subtype may have a different neural mechanism compared to the other subtypes of OCD.

Background Sclera remodeling process in axial elongation is one of the main pathological mechanisms of axial myopia progression.Studies confirmed that transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1) participates in the sclera remodeling process, and Smad3 is one of TGF-β1 downstream signal gene transcriptive factors,so to explore its role in sclera remodeling process of myopic eyes is of great significance for pathogenesis and prevention research of myopia. Objective This study was to investigate the expressions of type Ⅰ collagen and Smad3,a TGF-31 downstream target,in sclera of form deprivation myopic (FDM) eyes and explore the impact of TGF-β1-Smad3-type Ⅰ collagen signaling pathway on collagen remodeling in myopic sclera. Methods Seventy-five 1-week-old guinea pigs were randomly divided into normal control group (25 guinea pigs) and FDM group (50 guinea pigs).Monocular FDM was induced by occluding the left eyes of guinea pigs in FDM group with translucent latex balloons for 2,4,6 weeks, respectively, and consecutive occluding for 4 weeks followed by uncovering for 1 week (4/-1 weeks). The refractive power was detected by retinoscopy and axial length was measured with A-type ultrasound.Immunohistochemistry and reverse transcription-PCR were employed to detect the dynamic expressions of type Ⅰ collagen and Smad3 protein ad mRNA in the sclera of guinea pigs with emmetropia and experimental myopia, ard the relationship between collagen Ⅰ and Smad3 levels was analyzed. Results The refraction was hypermetropic in both normal control group and FDM group before occluding of eyes (P>0.05),and the hypermetropic power was gradually reduced over time in the normal control group. In the FDM group, the refractive power was gradually changed from (+2.09 ± 0.31)D before occluding to (-1.23±0.69),(-4.17±0.59),(-7.07±0.56) and (-4.30±0.58)D,and the axial length was increased from (5.93-±0.39)mm to (6.62±0.36),(7.30±0.34),(7.99--0.32),and (7.21 ±0.36) mm at weeks 2,4,6,and 4/-1 after occluding, respectively, indicating significant differences in refractive power and axial length over time in the FDM group from normal control group and self-control group (all at P<0.05).The expressions of Smad3 and type Ⅰ collagen protein and mRNA in the sclera of the FDM group was significantly lower than those of the control group and self-control group in various time points (all at P<0.05).The positive correlation were found in the expression of Smad3 on the myopic sclera with that of type Ⅰ collagen in both protein and mRNA levels (protein:r=0.993,P<0.05;mRNA:r=0.954,P<0.05).Conclusions The myopic power and ocular axis increase dependent upon occluding time, and the expressions of Smad3 and type Ⅰ collagen in the sclera are correspondingly weakened in FDM eyes.A consistent expression trend is found between Smad3 and type Ⅰ collage, suggesting Smad3 and type Ⅰ collagen participate in the regulation of sclera remodeling in myopia by TGF-β1-Smad3-Collagen Ⅰ signaling pathway.

BACKGROUND: Apolipoprotein(a) [Apo(a)] plays some role in promoting the formation of atherosclerotic plaque, and contains pentanucleotide repeats(PNR), which has a key value in genic research and in forecast on the increased risk of early atherosclerosis cerebral infarction (ACI). But the relationship between ACI and Apo(a) PNR in different races needs to be further investigated.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationship between the Apo(a) PNR polymorphism and ACI.DESIGN: A case-control study based on the ACI patients and normal people of Han nationality in Hubei.SETTING: Department of Laboratory in a hospital of a university.PARTICIPANTS: From February 1998 to March 1999, 82 ACI patients (ACI group) and 153 healthy controls(control group) were selected from the Department of Neurology, Central South Hospital and Yatai Hospital of Wuhan University. All patients were Han nationality in Hubei without any relatives.METHODS: Serum lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a) ], total cholesterol(TC), high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-c), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c), triglyceride (TG), apolipoprotein A Ⅰ (ApoA Ⅰ) and apolipoprotein B (Apo B) were tested respectively. Meanwhile, the PNR in the 5' control region of the Apo(a) was detected with polymerase chain reaction(PCR) and high voltage polyacrylamide gels electrophoresis. The results were analyzed with controlled analysis.RESULTS: The levels of serum Lp(a) [ (239.9 ±225.4) mg/L], TC [(4.76±0.74) nmol/L], TG[(1.74±0.60) mmol/L] and LDL-C [ (2.84 ± 0. 63) mmol/L] were remarkably higher in ACI group than those in control group, which were(133.5 ±97.7) mg/L in serum Lp(a), (4. 29±0.72) mmol/L in TC, (1.05±0.52) mmol/L in TG and(2.84±0.63) mmol/L in LDL-C, however, the level of HDL-C[ (0.88± 0.17) mmol/L] was remarkably lower in ACI group than that in control group [ ( 1.03 ± 0. 35 ) mmol/L], the differences were all significant( t = 3.65to9.18, P < 0.01) . The levels of ApoA Ⅰ [(1.13±0.15) mmol/L,(1.25±0.19) mmol/L] and ApoB[(0.93±0.12) mmol/L, (0.89± 0. 15 ) mmol/L] were no significant difference compared with those in control group. The duplicated frequency of the allele(TTTTA) 5(0. 098) in the ACI was remarkably higher than that in control(0. 026) (x2 = 5.62, P< 0. 05), The frequency of the allele(TTTTA) 9 in the ACI(0. 073) was remarkably lower than that in control (0. 213 ) (x2 = 7.83, P < 0.01 ), The frequency of the allele(TTTTA) 5 was also associated with low TC and high Lp(a) levels.CONCLUSION: It is suggested that the Apo(a) PNR polymorphism are associated with the susceptibility to ACI, and involved in the development of ACI.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the clinical outcomes of percutaneous intervertebral foramina endoscopic lumbar discectomy for elder patients with lumbar spinal stenosis syndrome.
METHODSFrom July 2006 to July 2011, 60 elder patients with lumbar spinal stenosis syndrome were treated with surgical operation, including 32 males and 28 females with an average age of (66.7 +/- 2.5) years old ranging from 72 to 83 years. These patients were divided into the traditional surgery group and percutaneous intervertebral foramina endoscopic discectomy groups (PTED group), 30 cases in each group. The index of the preoperative and postoperative, operative incision visual analogue scale (VAS) of two groups were compared. The Oswestry disability index (ODI) of two groups at 6, 24 months of the follow-up were also evaluated on activity of daily living.
RESULTSThe average operative time, the average blood loss, the number of cases using analgesic drug, hospitalization time of PTED group were better than those of the traditional surgery group (P < 0.05). The improvement of incision VAS in PTED group was better than that in the traditional surgery group (P < 0.05). All patients were followed up for 24 months at least. The ODI at 1, 24 month after operation were better than that of preoperative in two group respectively (P < 0.05), but the improvement of PTED group was better than that of the traditional surgery group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONPTED has the advantages of smaller incision, less bleeding, less postoperative stay and hospitalization time, tissue trauma and quicker recovery. It is a safe and efficacious minimally invasive surgical technique for elder patients with lumbar spinal stenosis syndrome.
