A pot experiment was conducted to study effect of drought stress on leaf physiological characteristics and growth of one year old Stellaria dichotoma seedlings. The result showed that plant height and shoot dry weight significantly decreased with decrease in soil water content; however, root length and root dry weight increased at light drought stress and decreased at severe drought stress. The result also showed that with the decrease of soil water content, proline content in S. dichotoma leaves decreased then increase, while solube protein content decreased. Activities of SOD and POD in S. dichotoma leaves significantly decreased as soil water content decreased, while activity of CAT significantly decreased at severe drought stress. Membrane permeability in S. dichotoma leaves increased, while MDA content decreased then increased as soil water decreased. These results suggest that S. dichotoma had osmotic stress resistance ability and reactive oxygen scavenging capacity at light drought stress, which caused S. dichotoma growth was no inhibited at a certain extent drought stress.

The purpose of this study is to prepare galactosyl modified lipid bilayer-coated mesoporous silica nanoparticles (GPEM) to enhance the antitumor efficacy against hepatocellular carcinoma cells. The irinotecan (CPT-11) loaded mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) was coated with the Gal-P123 modified functional lipid bilayer by thin-film dispersion method. Nanoparticles were characterized with particle size, zeta potential, morphology and drug release in vitro. Afterwards, the cell uptake, intracellular concentration of CPT-11, cell apoptosis rate and cytotoxicity were evaluated on human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line Huh-7. The results showed that MSNs were coated with intact lipid bilayers and the nanoparticles had clear core-shell structure. GPEM is stable with the mean particle size of (78.01 +/- 2.04) nm. The low leakage rate in normal physiological conditions in vitro is contributed to the protection of stable lipid bilayer, and the fast drug release in acid environment due to the destruction of the lipid bilayer. On the cell level, the vector could improve the intracellular CPT-11 concentration by 4 times because of the functional lipid bilayer. The high CPT-11 concentration led to the increasement of apoptosis rate by 48.6%, and the reduction of half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values of CPT-11 by 2 times, indicating stronger cell cytotoxicity.

Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2013;31(10):949-952
Background Researches have showed that the extraocular muscle injection of insulin-like growth factor(IGF) results in the thickness of extraocular muscle and enhancement of contractility, and lack of IGF probably is associated with pathogenesis of strabismus. If extraocular muscle injection of insulin-like growth factor binding protein 4(IGFBP-4),an inhibitor of IGF,can further ensure the effect of IGF is still under-investigation.Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of IGFBP-4 on the developing extraocular muscle. Methods IGFBP-4 of 2 μl(1 g/L)was injected into superior rectus muscles via supraorbital margin in the left eyes of 24 postnatal l-day-old chickens once every other day for five times, and the equivalent amount of normal saline solution was used in the same way in the fellow eyes as controls. The animals were sacrificed by overdose of anesthesia 2 days after the final injection and 12 animals were randomly selected for the maximal contractility test of superior rectus muscle. The other 12 pieces of superior rectus muscle of the chickens were obtained for the hematoxylin & eosin staining to evaluate the morphology of superior rectus muscle and calculate the myofiber diameter using imaging system. Results The maximal contractility was (1.602 ± 0.080) mN and(1.815±0.O10)mN in the IGFBP-4 injection group and normal saline solution group respectivily, showing a significant difference between the two groups(t =13.65,P<0.01).The maximal contraction force in cross-sectional area was (95.500 ± 7.420) mN/cm2 in the IGFBP-4 injection group and it was significantly lower than that of the normal saline solution group(101.510±5.220)mN/cm2(t =28.81,P<0.01).Histological examination showed that thin myofibers were obvious more in the IGFBP-4 injection group than those with saline injection. The mean diameter was (8.7 ± 0.5) μm in the IGFBP-4 injected group, and that of the normal saline group was(9.1 ±0.4) μm,there was no significant difference between them (t =0.75,P =0.46).However,significant differences were found in the number of different diameters of myofibers between the two groups(all at P<0.05).Conclusions IGF is one of the key nutrition factors in the development of extraocular musele. The extraocular muscle injection of IGFBP-4 may cause the dysfunction and morphologic abnormality of extraocular muscle.

Objective To explore the value of the spectral CT iodine-based material decomposition technique in differential diagnosis of central pulmonary carcinoma from obstructive pneumonia and atelectasis. Methods 25 cases with central pulmonary carcinoma complicating with obstructive pneumonia and atelectasis underwent CT plain scan and spectral contrast scan including pulmonary-arterial-phase (PAP) and bronchial-arterial-phase(BAP).Conventional CT images and iodine base images were generated in each phase by GSI viewer. The 4 groups of images differences between the tumor and the obstructive pneumonia and atelectasis were analyzed. Results The margin of the tumor was ill-defined in plain scan. The cases that showed difference between the tumor and the obstructive pneumonia and atelectasis in 4 groups of images were respectively as follows,10 in conventional CT images of PAP,1 6 in conventional CT images of BAP,1 9 in iodine base images of PAP,and 23 in iodine base images of BAP.The difference of the 4 groups was significant (χ2 =16.54,P<0.05).There was the highest accuracy in iodine base images of BAP in defining the tumor margin (χ2 = 12.83,χ2 = 4.20,χ2 =1.34,P <0.05). The accuracy between conventional CT images of BAP and iodine base images of PAP had no significant differences (χ2 =0.86,P >0.05),but were better than that of the conventional CT images of PAP(χ2 =6.65,P <0.05).Conclusion Spectral CT iodine-based material decomposition technique is helpful to improve subjective diagnosis of central pulmonary carcinoma complicating with obstructive pneumonia and atelectasis, especially in iodine base images of BAP,it can provide accurate information for clinical stage and treatment.

Chinese Journal of Radiation Oncology 1992;0(01):-
Objective To investigate the mechanism of the inhibitory effect of ?-ray irradiation on rat vascular smooth muscle cells(VSMC). Methods The ef fect of ?-ray irradiation on proliferation of VSMC was observed by 3?H-TdR incor poration. After ?-ray irradiation, the VSMC cell cycle change was detected b y flo w cytometry. The expression of p53, cyclin D and PCNA was investigated by Wester n Blot. Results The inhibitory effect of ?-ray irradiation on VSMC proliferati on was dose-dependent. After ?-ray irradiation, VSMC was arrested in G 1 st age, w ith the expression of p53 increased but the expression of cyclin D and PCNA decr eased. Conclusions ?-ray irradiation can inhibit the proliferation of VSMC. T he main mechanism is probably due to the induction of cell cycle arrest and inhi bition of the VSMC mitosis ,during which process, p53,cyclin D and PCNA all pla y an important role .

Hepatitis B virus infection is a serious threat to human life and health. The approved anti-HBV drugs including interferons and nucleos(t)ide analogues have serious adverse effect, rebound phenomena after drug withdrawal, and drug resistance. And the cccDNA cannot be completely eliminated by both of them, which is the reason why a complete cure for hepatitis B cannot be achieved. Therefore, developing anti-HBV drugs directly targeting protein or nucleic acid of HBV remains a current public health priority. Based on the analysis of representative literature from the last decade, this article reviews recent developments in small molecule inhibitors directly targeting HBV from a medicinal chemistry perspective.
