Study on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome has been lasted for more than 50 years, which made the syndrome problems become syndrome difficulties. TCM syndrome has become a bottleneck problem and the key scientific problem which restricted the development of TCM theories. The exploration of syndrome difficultiesshowed that syndrome is a unique complex with double structure, which contained the functional structure andsubstantial structure. Uncovering the mathematical sciences connotation inherit in TCM theoretical system, exploring methods of objective and quantitative characterization of the syndrome, deciphering the functional structure of syn-drome, can make a key technical route for TCM theoretical system knowledge innovation in order to reveal the sub-stantial structureof syndrome. It is hopeful to re-open a new era of TCM theoretical innovation and great practice.

Theoretical studies of detection system of human body functions reflecting characteristics of Chinese medicine show that the three indicators of intake of the body from outside and the digestion and absorption of supply perunit time to ensure maximum quality,the energy consumed to maintain the five internal organs function perunit time and the dissipation of body storage perunit time will be able to fully reflect the changes in physiological and pathological status.Based on this theory,data obtained from the new understanding of the classification of the clinical symptoms in the characteristics of life as well as traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) symptoms,TCM symptoms unit and clinical symptoms attribute to TCM symptom information instrument detection.The human body function tests will be an extension of the TCM diagnostic methods,which will supplement the content of clinical symptoms and is expected to become a TCM therapeutic evaluation of quantitative detection methods.

This article was aimed to propose and develop traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) health engineering, using modern science and technology, in order to carry out the detection research which reflected TCM features of human functional state. It was an important way to achieve TCM diagnosis and the objective evaluation on therapeutic effects of TCM. The combination of TCM health engineering with information technology, and the formation of TCM functional state intelligent identification system, as well as the extension into the Health Internet of Things (HIT) could provide more accurate and convenient services for human healthcare in the age of big health. And identification on TCM syndromes was the core to achieve this goal. Using characterization data on TCM syndromes could realize the data processing between TCM syndrome and prescription through intelligent computing, in order to form the TCM syndrome differentiation and treatment intelligent system. It had great significance in the promotion of TCM health project.

Based on the theory of topological structure within the syndrome of tradition Chinese medicine (TCM), the high order multiple dimensions and nonlinear structure of syndrome can be cracked. And the panorama of complex and changeable syndrome can be showed. The dynamic evolving law of sub-sets of syndromes and the changing rule of the main signs and symptoms with the secondary signs and symptoms can be interpreted. Therefore, the evolving law of sub-sets of syndromes and the accurate corresponding law of prescriptions and medicines can be realized. And the scientific connotation of dynamic evolving rule of syndrome can be revealed. Studying on the occurrence regularity of syndrome, the structure characterization of TCM syndrome can be carried out. And the mathematical structure-physical structure-biological structure can be revealed. Along with the mass new specific forms of syn-dromes to be cracked, the simulation data platform of therapeutic methods with prescriptions and medicines of syn-dromes can be built through the simulation technology of computer. Using the clinical data, through the literature of carding and contrast, the scientific connotation of judgment and diagnostic standard of syndromes can be interpreted. The distracting law of syndromes of diseases can also be revealed through the clinical data of syndrome-groups. And the theoretical basis for the formulation of judgments and diagnostic standard of syndromes of diseases which con-forming to the dynamic evolving law of syndromes can be provided. Evaluation on TCM efficacy can be carried, in order to make clear the curative effect evaluation index system of TCM syndrome in multiple dimensions and multi-ple levels for the promotion of the substantially improvement of syndrome differentiation level.

Objective To evaluate efficacy of healthy canteen based-nutritional health promotion so as to provide evidence for popularization and application.Methods A total of 429 college professors and administrative staffs with a healthy canteen were selected as the intervention group in 2012 in Changzhou,and another 947 counterparts without a healthy canteen were selected as the control group.Those of the intervention group was further assigned to the ≥2 times/week and＜2 times/week subgroups.Blood pressure,fatty liver,serum triglycerides,blood glucose,total cholesterol,uric acid,low-density lipoprotein cholesterol,high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and body mass index(BMI)were tested before and after the intervention.Results After the intervention,the mean serum glucose[(5.06±0.62)mmol/L],uric acid[(310.57 ± 71.79)μmol/L],total cholesterol[(4.88 ± 0.86)mmol/L],triglycerides[(1.39 ± 0.67)mmol/L]and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol[(2.51 ±0.62)mmol/L]of the intervention group were significantly decreased(t values were 7.513,2.126,2.062,3.731 and 8.891,respectively; all P＜0.05),and mean high-density lipoprotein cholesterol[(1.43±0.34)mmol/L]were significantly increased(t=-2.309,P＜0.05).After the intervention,mean serum glucose and uric acid of the control group were significantly increased(t values were-3.491 and-7.703,respectively; both P＜0.05),although there was no statistically significant difference of mean serum triglycerides,total cholesterol,low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in the control group before and after the intervention(all P＞0.05).The abnormality rates of serum glucose,uric acid,total cholesterol,triglycerides,low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and BMI as well as the incidence of hypertension of the intervention group were significantly decreased after the intervention(x2 values were 4.202,3.940,4.031,7.305,59.422,4.273 and 7.385,respectively; P＜0.05).In the control group,although the abnormality rate of serum uric acid and the incidence of fatty liver were significantly inclined after the intervention(x2 values were 23.740 and 7.408,respectively; both P＜0.05),there were no significant difference of abnormal serum triglycerides,glucose,total cholesterol,low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and BMI as well as the incidence of hypertension before and after the intervention(all P＞0.05).Mean serum triglycerides[(1.15 ±0.68)mmol/L]and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol[(2.4 1±0.60)mmol/L]in the ≥2 times/ week subgroup were significantly lower than those of the＜2 times/week subgroup(t values were-4.884 and-2.513,respectively; both P＜0.05),and mean high-density lipoprotein cholesterol[(1.46±0.33)mmo]/L]of the ≥2 times/week subgroup was significantly higher than that of the＜2 times/week subgroup(t=2.032,P＜0.05).The abnormality rates of serum total cholesterol,triglyceride and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol in the ≥ 2 times/week subgroup were significantly lower than those in the＜2 times/week subgroup(x2 values were 3.963,9.947 and 4.589,respectively; all P＜0.05).Conclusion Healthy canteen based-nutritional health promotion model may provide an effective method to prevent and control the development of noncommunicable chronic diseases.

Objective:To explore the influence on inflammation cytokines for anti-IL-1βand TNF-αIgY intranasal treatment in guinea pigs with allergic rhinitis.Methods:The allergic rhinitis model in guinea pigs was established using ovalbumin(OVA).Hartley guinea pigs were randomly divided into the control group(group C,n=17),the allergic rhinitis model group(group M,n=27),the 0.1%anti-IL-1βand TNF-αIgY treatment group(group Z1,n=21)and the fluticasone propionate treatment group(group Z2,n=21). At 2 h,4 h and 8 h after the last treatment,blood was got by heart puncture,as well as nose was lavaged using 0.9% saline and the nasal lavage fluid( NLF) was collected.The level of cytokines was examined using ELISA kits.Results: In the peripheral blood, the levels of IL-1β,IL-5,IL-9,IL-13,IL-18,IL-33 and TGF-β1 from 2 h to 8 h;TNF-αand OVA-specific IgE from 2 h to 4 h;and IL-22 from 4 h to 8 h were significantly decreased in the 0.1%anti-IL-1βand TNF-αIgY treatment group compared with the allergic rhinitis model group(P<0.05).In the NLF,the levels of IL-1β,IL-5,IL-9,IL-13,IL-22,IL-33,TNF-α,TGF-β1 and OVA-specific IgE from 2 h to 8 h;and IL-18 at 2 h were significantly decreased in the 0.1% anti-IL-1βand TNF-αIgY treatment group compared with the allergic rhinitis model group ( P<0.05 ) .Conclusion: Anti-IL-1βand TNF-αIgY intranasal treatment can significantly reduce inflammation cytokine levels in allergic rhinitis guinea pigs.

Through the study on mathematical logic relation in the syndrome theory of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), it revealed that the mathematical logic relation among three basic elements in the judgment of syndromes, which were the disease cause (a), disease location (b), disease nature (c) and syndrome (z), was f(z)=a+b+c. The mathematical logic relation between syndrome (z) and symptom (zi) was f(z)= z1+z2+z3+…+zi. The obvious feature reflected by the complexity of syndromes was the construction number of symptoms. During the syndrome differentiation process, the mathematical logic relation between symptom and disease cause, location, nature and syndrome was z1+z2+z3+…+zi =a+b+c= f(z). However, syndromes generally exhibited a nonlinear relationship of point-set topology. After calculation, 79 major single TCM syndromes had a total of more than 6.5×105 different forms. The number within a certain range of syndrome group was approximately 6.6×10100. The super huge data “Googol” may be the root of complex TCM syndromes. The results showed that the researches on “element of syndrome” using the bayesian networks, the neural network algorithm and the algorithm of double levels of frequency power were irrelevant to the mathematical logic relation of the intrinsic relations of syndrome theory. Therefore, “element of syndrome” was a false proposition feature in the study of TCM basic theory. The established syndrome differentiation method with“element of syndrome” as its core was not conformed to the inherent law of TCM theory and clinical practice.

AIM: To clarify the effects of gastrin on t he expression of cyclooxygenase (COX) and several growth factors in rat gastric mu cosa. METHODS: Male Sprague Dawley rats were fasted for 24 hours and s ubcutaneously injected with saline or gastrin 17 at doses of 1 ?g/kg, 10 ?g/kg and 100 ?g/kg, respectively. The expression of COX-1, COX-2, heparin-binding e p idermal growth factor-like growth factor (HB-EGF) and hepatocyte growth factor ( HGF) in the gastric mucosa were examined using Western blotting and immunohistoc hemical staining. Effects of a potent gastrin receptor antagonist YM022 on the e xpression of COX-1, COX-2, HB-EGF and HGF in gastric mucosa were also evaluated. RESULTS: Gastrin dose-dependently increased the expression of C OX-2 and HB-EGF in rat gastric mucosa while the expression of COX-1 and HGF did not change significantly after treatment with gastrin. However, pretreatment wit h YM022 dose-dependently abolished the up-regulation of COX-2 and HB-EGF express ion induced by gastrin. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that gastrin up-regulates C OX-2 and HB-EGF expression in rat gastric mucosa, indicating that COX-2 and HB-E GF are involved in pathogenesis of the gastrin-related gastric mucosal hyperplas ia and carcinoma of stomach.

Objective To purify Shiga toxin Ⅱ (STX Ⅱ) of enterohaemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) O157: H7 by affinity chromatography, and characterize its biological function. Methods The immno-affinity chromatography column was prepared by STX Ⅱ A subunit-specific antibody S1D8 coupling to Sepharose 4B matrix. The purity and specificity of STX Ⅱ molecule secreted by EHEC O157:H7 were detected by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and Western blot, respectively. The purified toxin was serially diluted and the toxic activities to Vero cell line and mice were observed. The 50% cytotoxic dose (CD50) for Vero cell line and 100% lethal dose (LD100) for mice were calculated. The protection effect of anti-STX Ⅱ polysera to the mice against the purified toxin challenge was also observed. Results STX Ⅱ was successfully purified from culture supernatant of EHEC O157:H7 using affinity chromatography scheme. The relative molecular weights of STX Ⅱ A and B subunits were 32 000 and 7 500 confirmed by SDS-PAGE, respectively. The purified toxin could react with monoclonal antibodies against STX Ⅱ A and B subunits, respectively.The toxin was cytotoxic to Vero cell with CD50 of 20 ng/L and lethal to mice with LD100 of 5 ng.The toxin could be neutralized by anti-STX Ⅱ polysera in vivo. Conclusion STX Ⅱ is successfully purified and its toxic effects are confirmed in both cell line and mouse model.

Aim To investigate the effects of isoliquiri-tigenin(ISL)on C6 glioma cell proliferation and differ-entiation.Methods C6 glioma cells’viability and proliferation were respectively measured by SRB test. Colony formation of C6 glioma cells from different groups was assayed.After culturing the cells from each group,giemsa staining was used to observe cell mor-phology.RT-PCR was applied to detect mRNA expres-sion of GFAP.Western blot was applied to detect the expression of GFAP.Results ISL effectively inhibited the viability of C6 glioma cells when compared with the control group in a concentration-dependent manner (P<0.01).The morphological observation under light mi-croscope showed that:in the control group,most of the undifferentiated C6 cells showed long fusiform and po-lygonal shape.Compared to the control group,the C6 cells treated with ISL revealed alteration in morphology such as astrocytes with smaller smooth,round body and much finer longer,tapering processes.The cloning for-mation rate detection revealed that:the colonies in the control group semerged earlier and were larger than those experimental ones,the cloning formation rate was higher,while almost no effective cells colony emerged in ISL treated groups(P <0.01 ).Western blot and RT-PCR analysis showed that GFAP expression in the ex-perimental groups increased(P <0.01).Conclusion ISL may inhibit the proliferation of C6 glioma cells and induce their differentiation.
