Objective To research the reversal effects of psoralen on multidrug resistant action and its influence on intracellular Ca2+ concentration in MCF-7/ADR cells and to explore its possible mechanisms of reversing multidrug resistance (MDR). Methods The inhibitory effects of psoralen on the viability of MCF-7/ADR cells were determined with MTT assay, intracellular adriamycin (ADR) concentration was assayed with HPLC and the intracellular Ca2+ concentrations in different incubative duration were detected with confocal microscope. Results Psoralen from 1 to 20 μmol/L reduced the value of IC50 of ADR in MCF-7/ADR cells, enhanced accumulation of ADR and influenced Ca2+ concentration with a negative correlation in different duration (24 h, 48 h and 96 h). Conclusion Psoralen can reverse MDR in MCF-7/ADR cells and its mechanism may be related to the increase of the intracellular accumulation of ADR by enhancing the intracellular Ca2+ concentration.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the capabilities of nosocomial infection control in local general hospitals in handling public health emergencies, and to provide reliable data for future work.METHODS A random sampling questionnaire method was adopted to investigate how nosocomial infection control in local hospitals performed their functions and handled public health emergencies.RESULTS The 15 hospitals which were surveyed had all been equipped with computer network of directly reporting epidemic situations of infectious diseases.Four from 15 hospitals had full-time employees reporting epidemic situations, and 11 had part-time employees.Twelve hospitals established, according to standards,a department of infectious diseases or a department of pre-examination and sorting diagnosis.Seven hospitals did not have full-time staff of infection control till 2003.The rate of the staff's knowledge of nosocomial infection control was 73.7%.The medical wastes of the 15 hospitals were all disposed at the local medical waste disposal center.CONCLUSIONS Our city,in terms of nosocomial infection control, has acquired certain capabilities of handling public health emergencies. But the capabilities vary from hospital to hospital.Further improvement in some work is still needed.

Objective To develop a scoring system to determine peptic ulcer risks and to evaluate its screening efficiency. Methods A total of 862 people who underwent gastroscopy for the first time ranging from 18 to 45 years old were enrolled in this study. They were divided into two cohorts with the method of simple random sampling,514 in the original cohort and 348 in the validation cohort.Information such as demographic characteristics, dietary intake, lifestyle, symptoms relating to peptic ulcer was obtained.A multivariable logistic regression method was used to determine independent predictors of peptic ulcer.Based on the logistic regression model,a scoring system was developed with a regression coefficient-based scoring method. Then the scoring system was internally and externally validated. Each value of calibration, discrimination and accuracy were computed and then compared with those of original cohort to assess its screening efficiency. Results Three variables (gender, smoking and melena) composed the scoring system with scores ranging from 0 to 4 points. It had good calibration (P =0.956) and discrimination (area under the ROC =0.70,95%CI:0.65-0.76).With 2.5 points as the screening cutoff value, the sensitivity, specificity, accuracy rate, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, positive likelihood ratio and negative likelihood ratio were 49.5%,82.2%,75.5%,41.6%,86.4%,2.78 and 0.61,respectively.In the validation cohort, the sensitivity, specificity, accuracy rate, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, positive likelihood ratio and negative likelihood ratio were 27.2%,92.7%,71.3%,64.6%,72.3%,3.89 and 0.79.The results above indicated that the screening efficiency of the scoring system in the original cohort was similar to that in the validation cohort. Conclusion The scoring system to determine peptic ulcer risks, containing gender, smoking and melena, has good screening efficiency and can be applied to predict the risks of peptic ulcer.

Objective To investigate the knowledge, belief and practice regarding ICF Generic Set in nurses. Methods 107 nurses from 28 secondary- and tertiary-level hospitals were investigated with self-administered questionnaires. Results In the knowledge dimension, 16.3%~39.4% of the nurses were accurate in each item respectively. The nurses got a middle grade in the attitude dimension and all the sub-dimensions. In terms of practice, 39.4%of hospitals and 44.2%of nurses had never used ICF, and the personal usage of ICF correlated with the scores of the knowledge and perceived susceptibility, perceived benefits, perceived barriers and perceived threat of belief. Conclu-sion The nurses are inadequate in the knowledge and attitude of ICF, and the application of ICF need more promotion.

BACKGROUND:Poly(D,L-lactide-co-glycolide)(PLGA)may produce lactic acid and glycolic acid when PLGA degrades, thus leading to the acid accumulation and inducing the inflammatory reaction locally.OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effect of lysine, histidine and arginine on regulating the acid accumulation of PLGA copolymer during the degradation.DESIGN:Repeated measurement and experiment.TIME AND SETTING:The experiments were performed in the College of Bioengineering.Chongqing University from July 2006 to August 2007.MATERIALS:PILGA(80:20)was produced by Sigma(USA);Lysine, histidine and arginine(purlty>99%)were purchased from Sigma(USA);Chitosan(deacetylation degree:85%)was purchased from Chengdu Kelong Chemical Reagent Factory;Algin(viscosity:1.05-1.15)was purchased from Tianiin Damao Chemical Reagent Factory.METHODS:Lysine, histidine and arginine were added into PLGA with the proportion of 5%(w/v)and 10%(w/v)respectively.The resultant film sample was put into a bottle with tri-distilled-water for 2-month degradation at 37℃.The pH value of degradation solution was detected by pH meter; Each film sample was taken out and lyophilized 12 hours to get its dry weight and calculate mass loss ratio. Each variety of the solution was sampled three specimens, the average pH value, average initial weight and average finial weight of these three specimens were taken as the indices at each sampling time point, respectively.Accordingly, the regulation effect of basic amino acid was comparexl with that of algin, chitosan and NaHCO3.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:The changes of pH value of degradation solution;the mass loss ratio of the composite.RESULTS:Each basic additive could relieve the acid accumulation, among them,NaHCO3 was the strongest, while algin and chitosan showed a lowest capacity, basic amino acid was moderate; The suitable regulation effect could be achieved at a level of 5%lysine.CONCLUSION:Basic amino acid can effectively regulate the acid accumulation after PLGA degrades, and the optimal concentration of lysine is 5%.

Objective To survey the female sexual status and its influence factors during the second trimester of pregnancy. Methods The Chinese Version of Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) and self-administered questionnaires were used to collect the data of 304 women during the second trimester of pregnancy. The investigation results were analyzed. Results Most women reported a decrease in sexual desire(74.7%,227/304),intercourse frequency(90.8%,276/304) and sexual satisfaction(41.1%,125/304).FSFI all dimensions mean scores of these 304 women during the second trimester of pregnancy were less than the critical value, and total FSFI was (20.82±3.74) scores. The female sexual status during the second trimester of pregnancy were affected by age, duration of marriage, education, the way of pregnancy,F=21.974,12.288,3.345,7.748,the differences were statistically significant,P<0.05.Conclusion Pregnant women are in a low level sexual function during the relative safety stage for sexual behavior during the second trimester of pregnancy,so providing some sexual education is necessary to improve couples' sexual health.
