Objective:To explore the value of pre- and postoperative red cell distribution width-to-lymphocyte count ratio (RLR) in predicting the disease-free survival (DFS) for non-metastatic colorectal cancer patients.Methods:The data of 108 patients pathologically diagnosed with non-metastatic colorectal adenocarcinoma after surgery from December 2012 to January 2020 in Hainan Hospital of PLA General Hospital were retrospectively analyzed. RLR was calculated and its differences in patients with varied clinicopathological characteristics were analyzed. The receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve was applied to analyze the value of pre- and postoperative RLR in predicting DFS of patients, and the cut-off value was determined by Youden index. DFS of patients with different stratification stratified by a cut-off value of RLR was analyzed by using Kaplan-Meier method followed by log-rank test. Cox proportional hazards model was used to make univariate and multivariate analysis.Results:Youden index of pre- and postoperative RLR in predicting DFS was 8.86%, 9.15%; based on the above index, the patients were divided into the preoperative RLR<8.86% group (73 cases) and preoperative RLR≥8.86% group (35 cases), postoperative RLR<9.15% group (48 cases) and postoperative RLR≥9.15% group (60 cases). According to ROC curve, the area under the curve (AUC) of preoperative RLR in predicating DFS was 0.66 (95% CI 0.55-0.77, P = 0.01), and AUC of postoperative RLR in predicating DFS was 0.62 (95% CI 0.51-0.74, P = 0.04). Pre- and postoperative RLR cut-off values were used to predict 3-year DFS rate of patients with the sensitivity of 51.60% and 71.00%, respectively, and the specificity of 76.60% and 50.60%, respectively. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that patients in preoperative RLR<8.86% group had a better DFS compared with those in preoperative RLR≥8.86% group ( χ2 = 7.35, P < 0.01); there was no statistical difference in DFS between postoperative RLR<9.15% group and postoperative RLR≥9.15% group ( χ2 = 3.69, P = 0.06). Preoperative RLR was an independent affecting factor for DFS of patients ( HR = 1.13, 95% CI 1.04-1.22, P <0.01). Conclusions:Pre- and postoperative RLR could be useful in predicating 3-year DFS for patients with non-metastatic colorectal cancer. Preoperative RLR is an independent affecting factor for DFS, and the patients with low RLR have a better prognosis.

Objective To analyze patients with acute chest pain as their chief complaint in order to improve our capability of early identifying and diagnosing high-risk patients,give them proper treatment in time and avoid misdiagnosis and improper treatment. Methods The clinical data of 813 patients with chest pain as their chief complaint admitted in the emergency department and critical care medicine department in Guangdong Provincial Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from January to December in 2011 were retrospectively analyzed. According to the process of diagnosis and treatment formulated by the chest pain center,all the patients must immediately finish the first electrocardiograph(EEC)examination in 10 minutes and the relevant blood biochemical examinations within 30 minutes after admission. Results In accordance with the relevant examinations,the confirmed diagnoses were as follows:there were 276 cases of unstable angina,accounting for 33.95%;145 cases of stable angina,17.84%;121 cases of acute myocardial infarction,14.88%;103 cases of respiratory system disease,12.67%;78 cases of skeletal muscle disease,9.59%;46 cases of the digestive system disease,5.66% and the high-risk non cardiac chest pain(such as aortic dissection/rupture of tumor or acute pulmonary embolism)12 cases,1.48%.Seven hundred and eighty-five patients finished the first EEC examination in 10 minutes,and 147 patients completed the chest computed tomography(CT)scan within an hour. Conclusions Acute chest pain is a common symptom in emergency department. It is necessary to identify the high-risk patients according to a process as soon as possible in order to get an accurate diagnosis and an effective treatment in time.

AIM: To observe the therapeutic effect of hepatocyte growth promoting factor (PHGF) combined with transmetil in treatment of chronic severe hepatitis (CSF). METHODS: 120 patients were divided randomly into two groups: the combined treatment group and the routine group. BACKGROUND:Olfactory bulb neurogenesis, transformation and maturation have been considered the hot topic. Olfactory bulb experience and nervous activity can influence olfactory bulb neurogenesis. However, no study reports that olfactory bulb functions can affect olfactory bulb neurogenesis in guinea pigs.
OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effect of unilateral olfactory functional deprivation on doublecortin, calbindin and parvalbumin expression in olfactory bulb of juvenile guinea pigs.
METHODS:Total y 24 guinea pigs were randomly divided into two groups, which were kil ed after establishing olfactory functional deprivation model through electric cautery injury at the left peripheral nostrils. At 3 and 6 weeks after modeling, the specimens were harvested. The expression change of doublecortin, calbindin and parvalbumin in two sides’ olfactory bulb of juvenile guinea pigs was detected by immunohistochemistry.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The number of doublecortin, calbindin and parvalbumin positive cells in olfactory bulb at the un-deprived side was significantly higher than that at the deprived side at 3 and 6 weeks (P<0.05). This finding indicates that olfactory neural activities can affect neurogenesis and transformation in guinea pigs.

Objective To study the correlation between amino terminal B-type natriuretic peptide precursor(NT-proBNP) and risk factors of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) with elder patients.Methods One hundred and twenty-eight ACS patients were divided into unstable angina pectoris (UAP) group with 52 samples,ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) group with 35 samples and non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) group with 41 samples.Meanwhile 45 healthy elder people were adopted as control group.Firstly,the subjects of blood pressure,body mass index (BMI) and smoking numbers were measured.Secondly,venous blood was collected to assay NT-proBNP,cardiac troponin Ⅰ (cTn Ⅰ),homocysteine (Hcy),blood-lipoids and C-reactive protein(CRP).Lastly,ultrasonic cardiogram was used to test left ventricular end diastolic diameter(LVEDD),left ventricular end systolic diameter (LVESD) and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF).In addition,correlation analysis was researched between NT-proBNP and other factors.Results NT-proBNP levels of UAP,STEMI and NSTEMI groups were significantly higher than the control group ((794.18±182.64) ng/L,(872.43±245.67) ng/L,(557.25±163.81) ng/L) and (125.84±59.27) ng/L,P ＜ 0.05).NT-proBNP was positive correlation with systolic blood pressure,diastolic blood pressure,Hcy and CRP (r=0.182,0.176,0.281,0.191;P=0.040,0.043,0.001,0.031),however negative with LVEF(r=-0.247,P =0.005).Conclusion NT-proBNP level is sensitive to monitor ACS variety,and it is significant to test NT-proBNP combining Hcy,CRP,and cTn Ⅰ for diagnosing and treating ACS.

Objective To observe the regulation of Fengxiaofang on the expression of gene Gob-5 in ovalbumin-challenged asthmatic mice. Methods The murine model of allergic asthma established by ovaibumin was used. The model mice were treated experimentally with Fengxiaofang and Dexamethasone as a positive control. The quantitive expression of gene Gob-5 in lung of mice was detected by real-time quantitative PCR. Results The expression of gene Gob-5 in lung of mice was down-regulated by Fengxiaofang. In the experiment, there were no significant differences between the one-fold or ten-fold dosage groups and the normal control group. Gene Gob-5 expression in five-fold dosage was significantly lower than that in the normal control group. Conclusion Fengxiaofang has the effect of lowering the expression of gene Gob-5 which maybe related to the potency on asthmatic disease.

Background How to control progression of myopia is a central issue in clinical optometry.Some clinical trials showed that wearing base-in (BI) prism can slow down progression of myopia to certain degree.However,whether BI prism or base-out (BO) prism should be used is worth discussing.Objective This study was to investigate the influences of different prisms on accommodative response and microfluctuation in emmetropias.Methods This clinical trail was approved by Ethic Committee of Peking University People's Hospital.During July in 2014,twenty-two emmetropias of 22 normal volunteers aged 21-27 years were recruited from Peking University People's Hospital under the written informed consent.An open-field infrared refractometer was used to monitor and record pupil diameter and accommodative response under three conditions including non-prism,3△ BI prism,and 3△ BO prism.The accommodative response value was calculated as the difference between reading value and-3.0 D,and root mean square (RMS) of accommodative response value served as amplitude of accommodative microfluctuation.Spectrum of accommodative response was analyzed by one dimension discrete Fourier transformation.The differences of accommodative response value,amplitude of accommodative microfluctuation and pupil diameter among three conditions were compared using repeated one-way ANOVA.Results The accommodative response values were (+0.31±0.78),(+0.51±0.75) and (+0.18±0.72) D under the non-prism,3△BI prism and 3△BO prismconditions,respectively,with a significant difference among them (F =28.078,P =0.000),and compared with the non-prism condition,the accommodative lag of 3△BI prism condition was increased and that of 3△BO prism condition was reduced (P =0.000,0.012).No significant difference was found in the amplitude of accommodative microfluctuation among the three conditions (F=0.062,P =0.879).The percentages of low frequency signal power (0-0.5 Hz)/total power (0-2.5 Hz) was 97.5％,98.3％ and 91.4％ under the non-prism,3△BI prism and 3△BO prism condition,respectively.The pupil diameter was (5.37-±0.69) mm under the 3 △ BI prism condition,which was larger than (5.07±0.66) mm under the non-prism condition and (5.01 ±0.69) mm under the 3△ BO prism condition (both at P =0.000).Conclusions Compared with wearing 3△ BI prism,wearing 3△ BO prism lessens the accommodative lag,decreases the pupil diameter and reduces the power of low frequency component in accommodative response.

Background Using tablet computer at a short distance is one of the risk factors resulting to pathogenesis and progression of myopia.Studying the effect of such device on accommodative system of human eyes can provide further insights into myopia control.Objective This study was to explore the influences of playing iPAD game for a short duration on accommodative response,accommodative microfluctuation and pupil diameter in adolescent myopia patients.Methods Sixty adolescent myopic patients were included in Peking University People 's Hospital from August 2014 to April 2015,with the mean age (11.6±2.6) years and mean spherical equivalent refraction (SER) (-2.38±1.08)D.The patients were randomly divided into 3 groups according to different playing duration of iPAD game,including 3-minute group,5-minute group and 10-minute group.An open-field infrared refractometer was used to record pupil diameter and accommodation-associated data before and after playing iPAD game.Accommodative response was defined as the difference between the recorded value and theoretical accommodative response,and root mean square (RMS) was used to describe the amplitude of accommodative microfluctuation.One-dimension discrete Fourier transformation was used to analyze spectral characteristic of accommodative response curve.Paired t tests were used to compare these accommodative parameters before and after playing game,while Wilcoxon signed-rank tests were applied for analyzing high frequency component of accommodative microfluctuation.This research conforms to the declaration of Helsinki,and was approved by Peking University People's Hospital Ethics Committee,all the subjects and their guardian signed informed consent.Results The accommodative response values before and after playing iPAD game in 10-minute group were (0.81 ±0.29)D and (0.74 ± 0.27) D,respectively,with significant difference between them (t =2.263,P =0.036),and no significant differences were found in the accommodative response values before and after playing iPAD game in the 3-minute group and 5-minute group (both at P＞0.05).The RMS after playing iPAD game was (0.31 ±0.08) D in the 10-minute group,which was significantly higher than (0.27 ± 0.09) D before playing iPAD game (t =-2.259,P =0.036).The high-frequency spectral power of accommodative response curves in all the three groups were increased after playing iPAD game in comparison with before playing iPAD game,with significant differences in the 5-minute group and 10-minute group (Z =-2.213,-2.016;both at P ＜ 0.05),and the pupil diameters were significantly decreased after playing iPAD game in comparison with before playing iPAD game,with significant differences in the 5-minute group and 10-minute group (t =2.428,P =0.026;t =2.515,P =0.021).Conclusions Short-term exposure to iPAD does not deteriorate accommodative lag in adolescent myopic patients.However,the increase of amplitude and high-frequency spectral power of accommodative microfluctuation,together with accommodation lag will result in blurred images and may bring adverse effects on myopic eyes.

BACKGROUND:Researches showed that the enriched environment could improve the cognitive dysfunction of rats with vascular dementia. However, there are few reports regarding its mechanism of action.
OBJECTIVE:To explore the effect of enriched environment on the cognitive dysfunction of rats with vascular dementia from the behavioral level.
METHODS:Vascular dementia models weremade by permanent ligation of bilateral common carotid arteries and were divided into vascular dementia group (n=8) and enriched environment group (n=12). Vascular dementia group was taken care under conventional breeding environment for 30 days, while the enriched environment group was subjected to the enriched environment for 30 days. Morris water maze test was adapted to test the cognitive function of rats between two groups. Immunohistochemistry and immunoblotting were applied to observe the number ofDCX+cels and DCX protein level in both groups. The number of DCX-labeled cels co-expressing NeuN was observed using immunofluorescence technique.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1) The escape latency in the vascular dementia group was longer than that in the enriched environment group (P< 0.05). The times across the platform was less in the vascular dementia group than that in the enriched environment group (P< 0.05). (2) In comparison with the enriched environment group, the number of DCX-positive cels andits protein level in the piriform cortex were significantly decreased in the vascular dementia group (P< 0.05). (3) The number of DCX/NeuN co-labeled cels in the piriform cortex was significantly less in the vascular dementia group than in the enriched environment group (P< 0.05). (4) These findings suggested that enriched environment could improve the cognitive dysfunction of rats with vascular dementia through promoting the expression and differentiation of the immature neurons.

Total 967 patients with diabetes mellitus treated in Morindawa People's Hospital from June 2012 to June 2014 were included in the study,among them 425 (44.0％) were of Daur nationality and 542 (56.0％) were of Han nationality.The clinical data and laboratory tests were analyzed and compared between two groups.Compared with Han nationality,Daur patients presented a younger average age[(55 ± 1 1) y vs.(58 ± 1 0) y,P=0.000],an earlier age of onset[(50±10)y vs.(53 ± 1 1) y,P=0.000],a higher percentage of males (54.8％ vs.46.9％,P =0.008),a higher percentage of rural residents (42.1％ vs.36.2％,P =0.034),a lower level of fasting blood-glucose (FBG) [(9.25 ± 3.37) mmol/L vs.(10.28 ±4.33) mmol/L,P =0.000],higher levels of HbA1c [(7.61 ± 1.71)％ vs.(7.29 ± 1.63)％,P=0.008],triglyceride (TG) [(2.91 ±2.06) mmol/L vs.(2.36 ±2.13) mmol/L,P =0.008],low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) [(3.22 ± 1.06) mmol/L vs.(3.01 ±0.92)mmol/L,P=0.020],systolic blood pressure (SBP) [(139.48 ± 21.58) mmHg (1 mmHg =0.133 kPa) vs.(136.37 ± 23.44) mmHg,P =0.002],diastolic blood pressure (DBP) [(87.23 ± 12.59) mmHg vs.(85.32 ± 12.52) mmHg,P =0.019],blood uric acid [(324.97 ± 106.45) μmol/L vs.(285.32 ± 98.69) μmol/L,P =0.000] and the ratio of urine microalbumin to urine creatinine [(2.29 ±5.57) mg/g vs.(0.12 ±0.98) mg/g,P =0.000].The results show that Daur diabetic patients are.younger in age,with more severe disorders in HbA1 c,blood pressure,blood uric acid and lipids levels,which increase the probability of renal damage or cardiovascular diseases in these patients.
