Objective To compare the axial length (AL) measured by Lenstar and contact A-Scan in the patients with idiopathic macular hole and study the correlation between the difference of the two measurements and the foveal thickness measured by optical coherence tomography (OCT).Methods Twenty-seven eyes of 26 idiopathic macular hole patients (IMH group) and 27 eyes of 25 patients with mild cataract (control group) were enrolled in this study.Foveal thickness was measured with 3D OCT.The AL was measured by Lenstar and contact A-Scan,and the consistency of the two measurements was determined by Bland Altman analysis. The correlation between the difference of the two measurements and foveal thickness was analyzed by Pearson correlation analysis. Results Mean foveal thickness of IMH and control eyes were (372.85±60.02) μm and (243.44±22.50) μm,respectively. The difference between the foveal thickness of the two groups was highly significant (t=-10.490,P<0.001).In the IMH group, the AL measured by Lenstar and contact A-Scan were (23.20± 1.12) mm and (23.18± 1.13) mm,respectively, the difference between the two measurements was not statistically significant (t =-0.549,P =0.588),whereas in the control group, the AL was (23.41 ± 0.72) mm by Lenstar and (23.33 ± 0.74) mm by contact A-Scan,the two measurements were significantly different (t=-4.832,P<0.001).However,no correlation was found by Pearson correlation analysis between the difference of the two measurements and the foveal thickness in either IMH or control group (r=0.181,-0.141; P>0.05).Conclusions Although there is no difference of axial length measurements using Lenstar and contact A-Scan in IMH eyes,in clinical measurements the results of two instruments should be taken into comprehensive consideration.

Objective To investigate the clinical biomarkers of acute lung injury(ALI) after the Stanford A aortic dissection. Methods Thirty patients underwent Stanford A aoatic dissection were selected as subjects, who hospitalized from January 2006 to March 2013.Of which,21 patients underwent total arch replacement with stented elephant trunk procedure and 9 patients underwent triple-branched stent graft placement. The general information of patients, preoperation echocardiogram data, and arterial partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2),partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO2) and fraction of inspired oxygen(FiO2) were recorded before, after the operation and entering ICU.Alveolar-arterial oxygen difference (A-aDO2),oxygenation index (OI) were calculated. Results A-aDO2 and OI at preoperation, postoperative and entering ICU point were (112.47 ±41.06) mmHg,(136.13 ± 29.51) mmHg and (141.37 ± 25.94) mmHg; (535.23 ± 70.15) mmHg; (491.50 ± 73.12) mmHg and (387.33 ± 91.32) mmHg respectively, and the differences were significant (F=35.926,323.742;P =0.000).The levels of A-aDO2 and OI at entering ICU were significant different from that of pre-operation and post-operation (P < 0.01,P < 0.05).Conclusion Early postoperative oxygenation and switching functions of patients with Stanford A aortic dissection are subject to damage to some degree. The A-aDO2 and OI might be sensitive biomarkers of the diagnosis for early acute lung injury of aortic dissection patients.

AIM: To investigate the changes of current and gene expression of acetylcholine sensitive K~+ channel (K_ ACh ) in chronic human atrial fibrillation (AF) and to evaluate the roles of K_ ACh expression in the occurring and maintenance of AF. METHODS: Acetylcholine sensitive K~+ currents (I_ KACh ) were recorded with the whole-cell patch clamp technique in single atrial myocyte of AF group and normal sinus rhythm group (SR group). The current densities-voltage relations were analyzed. The Kir3.4 mRNA was measured by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS: (1) Compared with SR group, acetylcholine sensitive K~+ current densities in AF group were reduced under testing potential between -80 mV and -120 mV . Acetylcholine sensitive K~+ current density was ( -11.665 ?1.027) pA/pF (n=11) in AF group vs ( -19.486 ?0.766) pA/pF (n=11) in SR group at -100 mV testing potential (P

Microbiology 1992;0(01):-
Three bacteria of decomposing lecithin and 4 bacteria of dissolving aptite were incubated for 4 weeks with sand media respectively. Phosphorus in the sand was extracted with distilled water and measured by different methods. It was found that the bacteria have a quite different ability to release P from the materials. Part of the P released became organic phosphorus compounds in microbial tissue. However, a large amount of the P was reserved in microbial cells in a form of phosphates. The direct measurement of P in the extract by molybdenum blue method would underestimate the capacity of the bacteria to release P from the materials. The correct approach was that the sand was fumigated with chloroform and then digested with acid before the measurement by molybdenum blue method.
