OBJECTIVE:To preliminarily study the stability of 3 pieces of Chinese medicinal formula(CMF)after decoction, and provide reference for guaranteeing storage quality of decocted liquid and improving safety of drug use. METHODS:3 represen-tative formulas of Gegen Huangqin Huanglian decoction(A formula),Wuling powder(B formula)and Didang decoction(C for-mula)from Shanghan Zabing Lun were selected, the decocted liquid were stored under ambient temperature(25 ℃)and refrigerat-ed temperature (4 ℃) after decocting by automatic boiling-machine and packing. The microorganism, precipitation,pH and con-tents of total flavonoids, alkaloid, polysaccharide, total protein after 1,7,14,21,28 d were detected. RESULTS:Compared with the first day, contents of total flavonoids, polysaccharide in formula A at ambient temperature group were significantly in-creased on the 28th(P<0.05),content of polysaccharide in refrigerated temperature group was significantly increased(P<0.05). Content of polysaccharide in formula B at ambient temperature group was significantly decreased(P<0.05). The pH and content of total flavonoids in formula C at ambient temperature group and refrigerated temperature group were significantly increased (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Other indexes showed no obvious changes during the trial period. CONCLUSIONS:Under ambient temperature and refrigerated temperature, liquid ingredients of above decocted CMF will change when storing for 4 weeks. It indicates that the storage time of decocted CMF should not be more than 3 weeks.

BACKGROUND:Closed reduction using proximal femoral nail antirotation gradual y becomes the golden standard in the treatment of intertrochanteric fractures.
OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the advantages of proximal femoral nail antirotation in the treatment of intertrochanteric fractures by a new way that accurate positioning is used to modify the skin incision.
METHODS:Ninety-nine patients with intertrochanteric fractures undergoing proximal femoral nail antirotation were included in the study, including 41 cases in the modified incision group and 58 cases in the standard operation group. Length of skin incision, mean bleeding volume, mean operation time, mean hospitalization time and the Harris scores were compared between two groups postoperatively.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Compared with the standard incision group, the mean bleeding volume and length of skin incision were decreased by 50.9%and 44%respectively in the modified incision group, as wel as the mean operation time was also shorter in the modified incision group (P<0.05). However, there was no difference in mean hospitalization time and Harris scores at the end of fol ow-up. The modified incision is more suitable for proximal femoral nail antirotation treatment of intertrochanteric fractures, with smal er incision, less trauma, shorter operation time and less blood loss.

Objective To evaluate the effects of Ro20?1724 on cognitive dysfunction induced by repetitive ketamine anesthesia in immature rats. Methods Thirty?two Sprague?Dawley rats of both sex, aged 21 days, weighing 45-55 g, were randomly divided into 4 groups ( n=8 each ) using a random number table: control group ( group C ) , ketamine group ( group K ) , ketamine+Ro20?1724 group ( group K+R) , and ketamine+anhydrous alcohol group ( group K+A) . In K, K+R and K+E groups, 70 mg∕kg ketamine was intraperitoneally injected once a day for 7 consecutive days. The equal volume of normal saline was given instead in group C. Two days after the rats were fed a common diet, 0.5 mg∕kg Ro20?1724 and the equal volume of anhydrous alcohol were injected in K+R and K+E groups, respectively, and the equal volume of normal saline was given instead in K and C groups, once a day for 7 consecutive days. Morris water maze test was used to test cognitive function, and the escape latency and frequency of crossing the original platform were recorded. The rats were sacrificed after the end of behavior tests, and hippocampi were removed to detect the content of brain?derived neurotrophic factor ( BDNF) in CA1 region using enzyme?linked immunosorbent assay. Results Compared with group C, the escape latency was significantly prolonged on 1st-4th days in K and K+E groups, the escape latency was prolonged on 3rd-4th days in K+R group, and the frequency of crossing the original platform and content of BDNF in CA1 region were decreased in K, K+R and K+E groups. Compared with K group, the escape latency was significantly shortened, and the frequency of crossing the original platform was increased on 3rd-4th days, and the content of BDNF in CA1 region was increased in K+R group, and no significant changes were found in the parameters mentioned above in K+E group. Conclusion Ro20?1724 can improve cognitive dysfunction induced by repetitive ketamine anesthesia in immature rats, and enhanced production of BDNF is involved in the mechanism.

To solve the problem that mostly gait analysis is independent from the treatment, this work proposes a system that integrates the functions of gait training and assessment for foot drop treatment. The system uses a set of sensors to collect gait parameters and designes multi-mode functional electrical stimulators as actuator. Body area network technology is introduced to coordinate the data communication and execution of the sensors and stimulators, synchronize the gait analysis and foot drop treatment. Bluetooth 4.0 is applied to low the power consumption of the system. The system realizes the synchronization of treatment and gait analysis. It is able to acquire and analyze the dynamic parameters of ankle, knee and hip in real-time, and treat patients by guiding functional electrical stimulation delivery to the specific body locations of patients.

BACKGROUND: High molecular materials have been proved to enhance the mechanical properties of calcium phosphate bone cement, as well as attenuate the injectability of composite materials. It thereby influences the clinical application of composite materials.OBJECTIVE: To observe the compressive strength and injectability of silk fihroin compound calcium phosphate bone cement, to evaluate the effect of silk fibroin on calcium phosphate, and to investigate the feasibility of applying silk fibroin as an injectable hone substitute to repair hone defects.DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: Controlled study was performed in the central laboratory of Analysis and Testing Center, Soochow University from September to December in 2007.MATERIALS: Calcium phosphate cement was purchased from Shanghai Rebone Biomaterials Co., Ltd; silk fibroin was offered by Institute of Material & Engineering, Soochow University.METHODS: Six groups were set with different mass fractions (0.5%, 1%, 1.5%, 2%, 2.5%, 3%) of silk fibroin, which were mixed with bone cement at a certain liquid/solid ratio of 0.4 mL/g to prepare the calcium phosphate composite. The calcium phosphate cement without silk fibroin was served as control group.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The compressive strength and injectability were determined. The characteristic microstructure was observed using scanning electron microscope.RESULTS: The compressive strength increased firstly and then decreased with the addition of silk fibroin. The compressive strength of the experimental groups was remarkably higher than the control group when the silk fibroin content was 1%-2.5% (P<0.05). The injectability of the paste diminished with the addition of silk fibroin, which was statistically different when the silk fibroin content was 1.5%-3% (P<0.05). Scanning electron microscope result revealed that the silk fihroin penetrated throughout calcium phosphate crystals, which were tightly connected.CONCLUSION: Silk fibroin can improve the compressive strength of silk fibroin/calcium phosphate cement composites without significant influence of manipulation, and can widen the application field of calcium phosphate bone substitute.

Objective To analyze the expression of dystrophin associated glycoprotein complex (DGC) in Duchnne muscular dystrophy (DMD) in different age groups. Methods The confirmed 24 DMD patients were divided into 3 groups according to their chronological age (children whose age between 1 to 3 were assigned to early childhood group; children whose age between 3 to 6 were assigned to preschool group; children whose age between 6 to 13 were assigned to school-age group). Several proteins from sarcolemmal muscle membrane were analyzed by immunohistocbemistry. Results The primary loss of dystrophin may lead to a secondary or completely deficiency of α-SG, β-SG, γ-SG,δ-SG, β-DG and dysferlin from sarcolemmal muscle membrane in different age groups. The expression of nNOS is completely deficient in the 3 groups, while the expression of caveolin-3 increased. Conclusions The expression of dystrophin related DGC proteins from DMD patients in different age groups showed diversed degrees of deficiency or complete deficiency. The deficiency of these proteins may occur during the embryonic period, while the increased expression of eaveolin-3 may have a relation with the regeneration of skeletal muscle fibers.
