1."Opening-closing-pivoting" theory on six meridians in Shang Han Lun and the space and time differentiation of three-yin and three-yang.
Journal of Integrative Medicine 2008;6(12):1294-6
The "opening-closing-pivoting" theory on the six meridians is one of the difficult points in the study of Shang Han Lun (Treatise on Cold Diseases). The authors give an explanation on the space and time differentiation of three-yin and three-yang as well as the "opening-closing-pivoting" theory based on the predecessor's experience, and then analyze the physiological and pathological characteristics of the six-meridian disorders.

Journal of Integrative Medicine 2008;6(2):124-7
The time of six meridians diseases tending to be cured in Shang Han Lun (Treatise on Cold Diseases) is always one of the key points for study, but up till now no satisfied explanations are made. The authors try to study it on the basis of the theory of "three-yin and three-yang" according to the relationship between human body and the environment.

In order to explore the dose-response patterns of Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae) in Shanghan Lun (Treatise on Febrile Diseases), all prescriptions containing Gancao in Shanghan Lun were analyzed by frequency and hierarchical clustering analysis. The doses of Gancao used in Shanghan Lun ranged from six zhu (Chinese unit, and one zhu is equal to 0.65 g) to four liang (Chinese unit, and one liang is equal to 15.625 g). Doses of one, two, three or four liang were commonly used. One liang Gancao as juvantia was usually matched with Mahuang (Herba Ephedrae), Xingren (Semen Armeniacae) and Guizhi (Ramulus Cinnamomi) for restricting the excessive diaphoresis of Mahuang. Two liang Gancao was often matched with some couple drugs, such as Guizhi and Shaoyao (Radix Paeoniae), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) and Zhimu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae), Fuzi (Radix Aconiti Lateralis) and Ganjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis), for warming yang to supplement qi, nourishing yin, detoxifying Fuzi, and preventing qi impairment from heat evil. Three liang Gancao was mainly matched with Banxia (Rhizoma Pinelliae) or Renshen (Radix Ginseng) for treating middle energizer emesis. Four liang Gancao was matched with Ganjiang or tonifying herbs for invigorating vital qi and relieving spasm in deficiency syndromes with contraction, palpitation or diarrhea. Gancao is used for treating many syndromes in Shanghan Lun. It is frequently used to treat excess or heat syndromes with one or two liang in a dose and deficiency or cold syndromes with three or four liang in a dose.

Objective To evaluate the effect of local resection for the tumor of Vater ampulla. Methods seventeen cases of Vater ampullary tumor were subjected to tumor local resection from November 1987 to December 1998, including 3 adenomas and 14 adenocarcinomas confirmed by pathology. Two methods of excision for the tumor were performed, including through duodenum to perform the tumor local resection in 16 cases, and through common bile duct in 1 case. Results Bile duct infection occurred in 3 cases. There was no death in this series. 12 of the 17 cases (70.6%) had been followed up for 4~61 months, median survival time was twelve months. In three benign cases ,one died with another disease 17 months postoperatively, two still alive well 38 and 7 months after operation respectively. In 14 malignancy, 9 cases (64.3%) had been followed up. Of the 9 cases, 6(66.7%) alived ≥ 12 months, 4 (44.4%) 24 months, two(22.2%) 60 months. Conclusions Local resection of the Vater ampulla tumor has advantages, such as small damage ,less bloodlass, quick recovery and less interference of the body, but it must be performed by rich experienced surgeons. It is suitable for patients with a small benign tumor, or in the high risk patients whose carcinoma showed no invasion or metastasis, and it also can be performed in patients such as those with atypical hyperplasia and suspious malignant tumor.

Objective:To investigate the feasibility and its action of the therapeutic DNA vaccine for treatment of HBV infection. Methods:By genetic recombinant technique, have constructed 2 eukaryotic expressing plasmids namely pS2.S and pFP,encoding HBV envelope middle protein(preS2+HBsAg) and human leukocyte cytokines fusion protein(IL 2/IFN ?) genes respectively and evaluated its efficacy for inducing cellular immunity in healthy BALB/c mice and HBsAg serum conversion in HBV transgenic(Tg) mice after immunization of the plasmids by intramuscular administration.Results:1.The T cell proliferation by in vitro HBsAg stimulation closely correlated with HBsAg concentration, with its stimulation index(SI=5.6?0.9) in pS2.S immunized group, being significantly higher than that (2.0?0.5) of the control. The IL 2 and IFN ? secretion level in supernatant of the DNA vaccine immunized spleen cell culture were significantly higher than that of the control, while the IL 4 secretion level was not affected.2.The dendritic cells(DCs) extracted from the local draining lymph node(LN) after DNA vaccination induced a HBsAg specific T cell proliferation with its SI(4.20) being higher than that(2.55) of the control.3.In each group of high dose pS2.S and the middle dose combined with pFP inoculation, the HBsAg serum conversion occurred in one HBV Tg mouse, with the serum anti HBs level increasing as the time prolonged, while the serum HBsAg level of the rest mice were significantly lower than that of the control. Conclusion:The results suggest that HBV DNA vaccine can effectively induced cellular immunity in healthy mice;and the preliminary results of the immunized HBV Tg mice may provide an experimental evidence for further investigation of DNA vaccine for its use in treatment of HBV infection.
