Objective To evaluate the effect of Qizhong Granules(QG) on preventing upper respiratory tract infection(URTI) in the elderly through clinical observation.Methods One hundred and forty-nine qualified aged patients were randomized into 3 groups: group A(N =50) received QG,group B(N =49) received Jade Screen Powder(JSP),and group C(N =50) was the blank control group.The treatment lasted 7 continuous days.We observed the incidence of URTI as well as the changes of symptoms and signs on the 7th and 14th day of treatment.Results(1) URTI occurred in 1(2.00%),2(4.08%) and 11(22.00%) patients of groups A, B and C,respectively.The differences between groups A and C,and those between groups B and C were significant(P

AIM: To observe the efficacy, feasibility and safety of endovascular stent-grafts in treating aortic dissection.METHODS: Six patients with aortic dissecting aneurysm (3 males and 3 females, aged 32-67 years, average of 50 years old) were selected from Department of Cardiology, First Affiliated Hospital of Gannan Medical College between March 2005 and March 2006. They were diagnosed by transthoracic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and aortic angiography, and as type Ⅲ aortic dissecting aneurysm according to Debakey typing. The tumor diameter was ranged from 3.2 to 4.3 cm. The informed consent was obtained from all patients. Two weeks after the onset, the blood pressure was control between 90-110 and 60-70 mm Hg and heart rate at 60-65 times/min, then the straight circular and bifurcated stents, the product of Yuhengjia Company, composed of single naked membrane, straight circular and bifurcated stents made of nickel-titanium memory alloy, and cover of domestic artificial blood vessel were implanted with the patients generally anesthetized. The aortic dissection and general condition of patients after operation were observed with angiography, and the patient recovery condition was examined by spiral CT at postoperative months 3 and 12.RESULTS: All 6 cases were involved in the result analysis.①The diameters of stents for the patients were appropriate. The angiography showed that the thoracic aortic dissection in 4 cases disappeared, and thrombogenesis was found in false lumen; the thoracic aortic dissections in 2 cases disappeared, however, a little contrast agent was found in false lumen, but the blood flow was very slow. The general condition of all patients was good with stable vital signs, all patients discharged after 7-10 days.②CT results at 3 month after operation suggested that the original false lumen significantly contracted, and the true lumen restored to normal level. In case 3, there was mural thrombus in the distal stent that connected with stent vessel wall, and the thrombus hyperplasia was not obvious during follow up. At 12 months after operation, there was no distinct alteration in the stent location and appearance, and the life quality of patients was significantly improved.CONCLUSION: Endovascular stent-grafts are effective and safe in treating aortic dissection.

Objective To study the effect of applicaton of the implanted artificial defecation control device (IADCD) in patients with lower rectal cancer. Methods The "radical resection aiming at achieving automatically controlled defecation" was performed in 32 patients with lower rectal cancer, On the basis of Mile's operation, the IADCD was implanted in those patients. Postoperatively, the defection control, psychological effect of the defecation mode on the patients, complications and adverse effects were observed. Results In treatment group (32 cases), satisfactory defecation control was achieved in 31 cases 1 month after the operation, and in another case 2 month after operation, and no obvious complications and untoward effects. In control group(16 cases), 8 cases had 1～2 times formed stool 3 months after operation, 4 cases achieved 6 months after the operation. Conclusions For patients with lower rectal cancer, the "radical resection aiming at achieving automatically-controlled defecation" could achieve the complete resection of lower rectal tumor and near to normal defecation without obvious untoward effects.

Objective To study the effect of different treatment methods on seed germination of wild Morinda officinalis How(MOH),which will provide evidence for breeding new cultivars of MOH.Methods We observed the morphological feature,thousand-seed weight and hygroscopicity of wild MOH,and studied the effect of different treatment methods on the germination rate,germination vigor,and germination index of the seeds.Results The thousand-seed weight was 38.03 g and the seed coat had good hygroscopicity.Stripping seed coat,acid etching with sulfuric acid,and the combined treatment of stripping seed coat with exogenous hormones of gibberellin(GA) and 6-benzyladenine(6-BA) had an effect on increasing germination rate,and the germination rate arrived 88.89% after the combined treatment of stripping seed coat with 4 mg/L 6-BA.Conclusion The germination inhibitors containing in the seed coat mainly contribute to the difficulty of the germination of MOH,and the germination inhibitors containing in the seed also have some influences on the germination.

AIM: The plasma concentration-time curve,pharmacokinetic parameters and bioavilability of puerarin,the main active constituent of Yufeng Ningxin Tablets(total flavone of Radix Puerariae Lobatae) in dog by(oral) administration was determined,and the pharmacokinetics was compared with puerarin injection by intravenous injection individually. METHODS: A single dose(the puerarin amount to 10.49 mg/kg) of Yufeng Ningxin Tablets by oral administration and puerarin injection by intravenous injection(9 mg/kg) were given to dogs in a auto-control way. The concentration of puerarin in plasma was determined by HPLC.The PK solutions 2.0 program,a non-compartmental model software,was applied to calculate the pharmacokinetic parameters. RESULTS: 1.The pharmacokinetic parameters of puerarin in dog showed that the t_(1/2E) f puerarin injection(9 mg/kg) by i.v was(72.11)?3.69 min,CL was 4.19?0.25 mL/min,AUC_((0-∞)) was 2172.42?123.02 ?g/min/mL,and the t_(1/2E) of puerarin in Yufeng Ningxin Tablets(10.49 mg/kg) by oral administration was 271.80?7.94 min, CL was 48.52?(2.20) mL/min,C_(max) was 0.43?0.06 ?g/mL, T_(max) was 150 min, AUC_((0-∞)) was 185.77?8.20 ?g/min/mL,and bioavailability was 7.03% compared to puerarin injection by intravenous injection. CONCLUSION: The absorption of puerarin in Yufeng Ningxin Tablets by oral administration comparing with puerarin injection by intravenous injection in dog is very poor,and the bioavailabilites is also low.

On the basis of thermal stability of andrographolide and dehydroandrographolide,the influences of medicinal material factors(habitats,collecting time,storage time),thermal stability,production technology(solvent,temperature,heating time and storage condition)on the content of andrographolide and dehydroandrographolide in Andrographis Tablet(AT)were explored so as to increase the quality of AT.The results showed that the excellent medicinal material of Herba Andrographis,optimized production technology,shorter heating time and lower temperature are the effective measures for increasing the quality of AT.

The relationship between 5-HT receptor and a-adrenoceptor was investigated in rat medullary slice preparations. In 57 nucleus tractus solitarii (NTS) neurons, 47 (82.5%) responded to both serotonin (5-HT) and norepinephrine (NE). After synapse transmission was blocked by perfusion of artificial cerebrospinal fluid (ACSF) with low calcium and high magnesium, 5 in 8 neurons were still sensitive to both 5-HT and NE. On the other hand, 3 in 5 neurons responding only to 5-HT or NA were sensitive to both 5-HT and NE after the synapse transmission blockage. In some neurons which exhibited excitatory or inhibitory responses to 5-HT or NE alone, the responses were inversed when perfused with 5-HT and NE in combination. These results suggest that there may exist an inhibitory interaction between 5-HT receptors and a-adrenoceptors in NTS and that most 5-NT and a-adrenoceptors coexist in the same NTS neurons.

Objective To evaluate the pharmacokinetic parameters and bioavailability of puerarin in Yufeng Ningxin tablets in mice by determining dose-time curve and by comparing with the pharmacokinetics of puerarin injection.Methods NIH mice were randomized into different groups. 6 %HClO4 was used to precipitate plasma protein and the plasma concentration of puerarin in mice was determined by HPLC.The PK solutions 2.0 program,a non-compartmental model software,was applied to calculate the pharmacokinetic parameters and bioavailability.Results The main pharmacokinetic parameters of puerarin injection by i.v.in mice were:t1/2=98.359 min,CL=35.548 mL?min-1,AUC(0-∞)=281.3 ?g?min?mL-1;the main pharmacokinetic parameters of puerarin in Yufeng Ningxin tablets by o.p.were:t1/2 =35.562 min,CL=898.685 mL?min-1,Cmax=9.3 ?g?mL-1,Tmax=30 min,AUC(0-∞)=222.5 ?g?min?mL-1 ,F(bioavailability value)=3.95 %comparing to puerarin injection.Conclusion As compared with puerarin injection,the absorptive content of puerarin in Yufeng Ningxin tablets is very poor and the bioavailability is also low,indicating that enhancement of bioavailability of Yufeng Ningxin tablets will be beneficial to the clinical application.

Objective The rational medication route of puerarin was explore d by studying the concentration- time curve and by comparing the histological and organic distribution difference of puerarin administered by intravenous injecti on or gastric gavage in mice, so as to supply a referential data for its rationa l application. Methods The NIH mice were used as experimental subject. The pu erarin concentrations in the plasma, tissue and organs at different time points were determined by HPLC. The PK solutions 2.0 program, a noncompartmental model software, was applied to calculate the pharmacokinetic parameters of puerarin an d to construct its plasma concentration- time curve. Results (1)The pharmacok inetic parameters of puerarin in mice were shown that the T1/2E of puerarin susp ension (0.2 mg? g- 1) by oral administration is 38.061min, CL =991.534 mL? mi n- 1, Cmax =3.6? g? mL- 1, Tmax =30 min, and AUC(0- ∞ ) =201.7? g? min? mL- 1, the bioavailability of puerarin suspension is 3.77 % compared to i.v puerarin injection. (2) Administered by intravenous injection (i.v), the puerari n distributed in the liver, kidney, plasma, spleen, muscle, lung, uterus and tes ticle rapidly, and the concentration of puerarin was the highest in the liver an d kidney and lower in the heart and brain. Distribution of puerarin suspension b y oral administration is similar to puerarin injection by i.v. However, the conc entration of puerarin in the tissues and organs by oral administration was lower than by i.v; the liver/heart, liver/brain, kidney/heart and kidney/brain concen tration ratios of puerarin by gavage administration were lower than those by i.v . Conclusion The bioavailability of puerarin by oral administration was poor, but the histological distribution characteristics of puerarin shows that the tox ic and side effects of puerarin are lesser by oral use than by intravenous injec tion.
