Objective To explore the relationship between body composition and arterial function index, especially augmentation index(AI),and make clear the impacts of gender and age on the relationship.Methotis A total of 3859 health adults were enrolled in this study.Boay composition was measured by bioelectrical impedance, and AI and pulse wave velocity(PWV) were viewed as indictors for arterial function.Correlation analysis and liner regression analysis were used for data comparison. Results Both body mass index(BMI) and body fat rate positively changed with PWV(r=0.114,both P<0.01).However,BMI showed no relation to AI(r=0.022,P>0.05).Body fat rate was positively and independently associated with AI(r=0.263, P<0.01),which was gender-dependent(female:r=0.219,P<0.01;male:r=0.033,P>0.05).When age was concerned, above relationship was more stronger in participants ≤50 years(β=0.479 vs β=0.321,P<0.01).Conclusion Body fat mass may be a predicting factor of changes in AI.Gender and age could affect the relationship between body fat and rtery function.

In this study, the effect of prophylactic anti-inflammation on the development of smoke-induced emphysema was investigated. Young male guinea-pigs aged 1.5-2 months (weighing 198.3+/-26.9 g) were randomly divided into 4 groups: group A (cigarette smoke exposure only), group B (cigarette smoke exposure plus pentoxifylline-rich (PTX, 10 mg/d) forage feeding), group C (cigarette smoke exposure plus intermittent cortical steroid injection (Triamcinolone acetonide, 3 mg, i.m., every three weeks) and control group (group D: animals with sham smoke exposure, raised under the same conditions). Animals in group A, B and C were exposed to smoke of cigarettes for 1 to 1.5 h twice a day, 5 days a week. All animals were killed at the 16th week and followed by morphometrical analysis of the midsagittal sectioned lung slices. Smoke exposure of 16 weeks resulted in visible emphysematous development in Group A but not in Group B and C. It was evidenced by the indicator of air-space size, mean linear intercept (Lm): 120.6+/-16.0 microm in Group A; 89.8+/-9.2 microm in Group B and 102.4+/-17.7 microm in Group C. The average Lm in either group B or group C was shorter than that in Group A (ANOVA and Newman-Keuls test, F=8.80, P=0.0002) but comparable to that (94.8+/-13.2 microm) in group D (P>0.05). It is concluded that long-term prophylactic anti-inflammation inhibits pulmonary emphysema induced by cigarette smoking in the guinea pigs.

Journal of Kunming Medical University 2001;22(1):83-86
The treatment results of radiofrequency ablation (m) were analyzed in l5 patients with the complicated Supraventricular tachycardia(SVT). The causes of SVT were dual accessory pathway(AP) in 9 patients, single M with slow-fast atrioventricular junctional reentrant tachycardio (AVJRT) in 5 patients and single AP with slow fast/fast-slow AVJRT in l patient. Results: 24 APs and 6 slow pathways of atrioventricular node were abl a ted. All patients were successful. During the follow-up of 6~48 months, there were no recurrence in l5 patients, also there were no occurrence of atrioventricular block and other complications. Conclusion: Using the proper methods of m of the complicated SVT would have a h igher successful rate, a lower recurrent rate and lower complications.

Objective To investigate the effect of Exosomes derived from lung cancer cells on the migration of secretory cells and homologous tumor cells and to explore the role of PI3K/Akt and SRC signaling pathways in this process. Methods Exosomes were isolated from the supematant post density gradient centrifugation of A549,lung cancer cells.Morphology of the Exosomes was studied using transmission electron microscopy.Protein expression was analyzed using Western blotting.Cell migration was analyzed by a transwell assay. Results The double-membrane-bound Exosomes appeared as discal-shaped structures,30-100 nm in diameter.Western blotting showed that CD9 was abundant in the Exosomes. The Exosomes promoted the migration of A549 cells and their homologous tumor cells,HCC827 in a dose-dependent manner, accompanied by the activation of Akt and SRC.Conclusion The Exosomes derived from A549 (lung cancer) cells promote the migration of the secreting cells and the homologous tumor cells. The mechanism may be correlated with the activation of Akt and SRC.

Objective To explore the effect of Exosomes isolated from the A549 lung cancer cells on the proliferation of these cells and their ho?mologous tumor cells,HCC827,and the role of the PI3K/Akt and SRC signaling pathways in this process. Methods Exosomes were isolated from the supernatant after density gradient centrifugation of A549 cells. The Exosomes morphology was observed by transmission electron microscopy. The expression of the Exosome?specific proteins was analyzed using Western blotting. Cell proliferation was investigated using the MTT assay. Re?sults The A549?derived Exosomes were 30?100 nm in diameter and had a bilayer membrane.Western blotting showed that CD9 was detected in these Exosomes. The isolated Exosomes promoted the proliferation of the A549 and the HCC827 cells in a dose?and time?dependent manner,ac?companied by the activation of Akt and SRC. Conclusion Exosomes isolated from A549 cells promote the proliferation of the secreting cells and the homologous tumor cells in a dose?and time?dependent manner. The mechanism may be related to the activation of Akt and SRC.

Objective:To explore the efficacy of low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) baseline and follow-up scans of lung cancer screening and to analyze lung nodules and other thoracic lesions detected from baseline and follow-up. Methods:A total of 650 sub-jects were enrolled in the LDCT lung cancer screening program, and investigators mainly focused on the analysis of 548 subjects who participated in the follow-up scan. The investigators recorded the nodules and other lesions of baseline screening, compared them with the follow-up images, and recorded their progress. Results:A total of 101 subjects were positive in the baseline screening, with a positivity rate of 18.4%. Six cases of lung cancer were confirmed by pathology, with a detection rate of 0.92%(6/650). The detection rate of lung cancer in female non-smokers (1.59%) was higher than that in male smokers (1.04%) without significant difference (P=0.624). Detected in the follow-up scan were 19 cases of new nodule-positive subjects. The positive rate for new nodules was 3.5%(19/548). The difference between the three-and two-dimensional levels was statistically significant. Conclusion:The effect of LDCT screen-ing for early lung cancer is significant. The detection rate in female non-smokers was not significantly higher than that in male smok-ers. Thus, LDCT lung cancer screening is equally significant for both sexes. The computer-aided detection (CAD) volume measurement technique is better to evaluate the progress of nodules during the follow-up interval.
