Objective To observe the TCM syndrome changes of lung cancer patients before and after chemotherapy and the effect of Shengxuetang on dealing with side and toxic effects caused by chemotherapy and patient’s immune function. Method Phase III and IV lung cancer patients were randomly divided into two groups, treatment group and control group. Patients in the treatment group were given the combination of chemotherapy and Shengxuetang, while those in the control group were given the combination of chemotherapy and berbamine. Peripheral WBC count, HGB level, platelet count, T-cell count, and NK cell activity were measured, and other toxic effects were observed before and after chemotherapy. Results Before chemotherapy, there were two syndrome types, one is the deficiency of Qi and Yin, and the other is phlegm-damp due to deficiency of Qi accompanied with blood stasis. During the treatment, these two syndrome gradually transformed to the deficiency of both Qi and Yin and coagulation of phlegm and blood stasis. The chance for patients to develop myelosuppression had no difference between two groups, however, most patients in the treatment group developed grade I myelosuppression, while in the control group, most patients developed grade II myelosuppression. G-CSF was prescribed more in the control group than in the treatment group (P

Acta Nutrimenta Sinica 1956;0(03):-
The result of a nutritional survey on potassium intakes of population and serum potassium contents of healthy adults in Shanghai (high occurrence of hypokalemia), Sichun (moderate occurrence of hypokalemia) and Shandong (null occurrence of hypokalemia) revealed that the average daily potassium intakes for the three areas were 60.1?16.6, 54.6? 13.4 and 58.7? 11.1 mmol per capita per day respectively; The serum potassium contents of the three areas were 4.2?0.3,4.0 ?0.3 and 4.2?0.4 mmol/L respectively. These results indicated that the daily potassium intakes and serum potassium contents between Shanghai and Shandong were not significantly different and might suggest that the occurrence of gossypol related hypokalemia in Shanghai and Sichun could not be attributed to the low potassium intakes and low serum potassium contents of the population.

Objective To study the preventive effects of vitamin K2 on tumor recurrence in patients with hepatocellalar carcinoma (HCC) after radical resection. Methods The clinical data of 50 patients with HCC who received radical resection from March 2006 to March 2007 in No. 181 Hospital of PLA were analyzed retrospec-tively. All the patients were divided into 2 groups according to the random number table. Twenty-six patients in vitamin K2 group were administered with menatetrenone (45 mg per day), and the rest 24 pateints were in the control group. The accumulative and tumor-free survival rates, differences between the 2 groups, multivariate factors for prognosis were analyzed by Kaplan-Meier curve, Log-rank test and Cox regression model, respectively. Results During a period of 36 month follow-up, 10 patients died and 28 had tunor recurrence. The 1-, 2-, 3-year accumulative survival rates were 96%, 92% and 83% in vitamin K2 group, and 96%, 82% and 63% in control group (χ2 = 3.61, P > 0.05). The 1-, 2-, 3-year tumor-free survival rates were 92%, 60% and 38% in vitamin K2 group, and 75%, 42% and 12% in control group, with significant difference between the 2 groups (χ2 =5.61, P <0.05). Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard analysis showed that without taking menate-trenone, the preoperative level of alpha fetoprotein (AFP) ≥800 μg/L and vascular invasion were the indepen-dent risk factors for tumor recurrence. Conclusions Vitamin K2 has a suppressive effect on tumor recurrence of HCC, while patients with AFP≥800 μg/L before operation or with vascular invasion have poor prognosis.

Objective To explore the effect of hyperbaric oxygen combined with acupuncture and moxibustion on traumatic peripheral facial nerve injury, and the results of electromyography. Methods From January, 2007 to January, 2013, a total of 160 patients with traumat-ic peripheral facial nerve injury were divided into treatment group (n=80) and control group (n=80). Both groups received routine drug treat-ment. Hyperbaric oxygen combined with acupuncture and moxibustion was applied to treatment group in addition. The clinical efficacy and the results of electromyography were analyzed before and 36 days after treatment. Results After treatment, the cure rate and total efficiency was significantly higher (χ2>7.657, P<0.001), the motor latency of facial nerve was shorter (t>2.214, P<0.05), the M wave amplitude of fa-cial nerve was significantly higher (t>3.116, P<0.01), the number of recruitment potential was more (χ2=9.76, P<0.05), and the motor unit potential voltage was significantly higher (t>5.45, P<0.001) in the treatment group than in the control group. Conclusion Hyperbaric oxy-gen combined with acupuncture and moxibustion is more effective on traumatic peripheral facial nerve injury than routine.
