1. Spectral entropy analysis of different alpha band rhythms in relation to hand motor imagery
Academic Journal of Xi'an Jiaotong University 2008;20(3):202-205
The event-related desynchronization/synchronization(ERD/ERS) time courses of lower and upper alpha band rhythms during hand motor imagery are investigated respectively by Fourier Sectral Entropy (FSE) in this paper. By analyzing one group of BCI competition data, it was found that FSE within upper alpha band displays a pronounced increase and decrease over contralateral and ipsilateral brain areas respectively at the onset of hand motor imagery, which is corresponding to the antagonistic ERD/ ERS patterns in previous studies. Different from the upper alpha activity pattern, FSE within lower alpha band displays a consistent increase over both two hemispheres hand representative areas. The preliminary results show that FSE could disclose the different behaviors of the upper and lower alpha band rhythms so that a new idea with the complexity measure is provided to characterize functional dissociation of lower and upper frequency alpha rhythms in relation to hand motor imagery.

Objective To investigate the effects of rhubarb extracts, i.e. rhein and emodin, on the neuronal hyperexcitability and synaptic transmission, and to further reveal the mechanism of the secondary brain damage. Methods The fluid percussion injury (FPI) rat model and extracellular recording method were used. The evoked field potentials by stimulating Schaffer collaterals were collected from the ipsilateral (impact side) and the contralateral hippocampal CA1 areas of rat in vitro. And the field potentials, including the field excitatory postsynaptic potential and the population spike, were analyzed. Results After the impact was performed on the rat parietal cortex, the evoked field potentials in the ipsilateral hippocampus CA1 area were enhanced obviously. Rhubarb extracts reduced the slope of the field excitatory postsynaptic potential and the number of the population spike significantly while rhein and emodin increased the latency of the population spike obviously. Conclusion Rhubarb extracts, i.e. rhein and emodin, can depress the neuronal hyperexcitability, which suggests that rhein and emodin play an important role in protecting the central nervous system from neuronal damage after traumatic brain injury. FPI produces hyperexcitability of hippocampal CA1 neurons, probably by enhancing excitatory synaptic transmission.

Objective To investigate the anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities of different extracts from X. mongolicum compared with that of X. sibiricum. Methods Seventy male Kunming mices were randomly divided into seven groups:control group, aspirin group, the ethanol extracts of X. sibiricum group and X. mongolicum group, the extracts from X. mongolicum with ether, ethyl acetate, and n-butyl alcohol group(n=10 each). The mice were administrated with 500 mg·kg-1 ( p. o. ) of different extracts. The hot-plate tests and the xylene-induced ear edema in mice were performed to observe the analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities, respectively. Results In the hot-plate tests, the pain threshold from the extracts of X. sibiricum and the different extracts from X. mongolicum at 60,120,180 min were prolonged, and there was no statistically significant differences(P>0. 05) between the ethanol extracts from X. sibiricum and X. mongolicum. The best analgesic activity was the ether and butyl alcohol extracts from X. mongolicum. Meanwile, the ear edema from the extracts of X. sibiricum and the different extracts of X. mongolicum were inhibited significantly(P<0. 05). There was also no significant differences between the ethanol extracts of X. sibiricum and X. mongolicum(P>0. 05). The ether and butyl alcohol extracts from of X. mongolicum showed the best anti-inflammatory effect. Conclusion X. mongolicum exhibites significant anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities comparable to that of X. sibiricum. The best anti-inflammation and analgesic activities were from ether and butyl alcohol extracts from X. mongolicum.

Objective To explore the application of Duff in treatment for patients with early stage threat ened abortion.Method 1000 patients with early stage threatened abortion admitted from Jan.2015 to Jun.2016 were selected, and were divided into two groups. All patients were treated by conventional therapy and Duff therapy.Treatment effects of the two groups were observed and compared. Results The differences of clinical characteristics between the two groups had no statistical significance (all P>0.05).No serious adverse reactions oc curred to either group. There was no significant difference in remission and disappearance time of clinical symptoms between the two groups (t=0.334,0.367,all P>0.05).The total treatment efficiency was higher in the observation group than in the control group, but the differences had no statistical significance (x2=0.058,/P>0.05).Conclusion There is a certain application value of Duff treatment for early stage threatened abortion, which is safe, efficient, and convenient, worthy of promotion.

Objective To study the molecular mechanism of glutamate receptor-6 (GluR6) in the pathogenesis of epilepsy. Methods Seizure model of SD rats was induced by intraperitoneal injection of kainate (KA). Immunoprecipitation and immunoblotting were performed to examine the interactions of GluR6 and MLK3 with PSD95 at various time points after KA injection. The effect of Tat-GluR6-9c on the MLK3 phospharylation induced by kainate was observed with immunoblotting and immunohistochemistry. Results The assembly of GluR6 and MLK3 with PSD95 was induced after KA hippocampal CA3 region, and bagan to decrease one day later. Pretreatment after KA injection in CA3 region (P<0.05). Conclusion KA induces the assembly of the GluR6-PSD95-MLK3 signaling module and subsequently activates MLK3, which ultimately results in brain injury.

OBJECTIVE:To optimize the extraction technology of total polyphenol and total flavonoid in Gardenia jasminoi-des. METHODS:Plackett-burman(PB)design was used to select the ethanol volume fraction,liquid-solid ratio, particle size,ex-traction time and extraction temperature to determine the key factor affecting the extraction of total polyphenol and total flavonoids in G. jasminoides. Then central composite design (CCD) was combined with response surface method to optimize the extraction technology, and verification test was conducted. RESULTS:The optimal extraction conditions of total polyphenol were 40% etha-nol,particle size of 0.20 mm,extraction temperature of 60 ℃,liquid-solid ratio of 20,and extraction time of 20 min;the optimal extraction conditions of total flavonoids were 40% ethanol, particle size of 0.20 mm,extraction temperature of 30 ℃,liquid-solid ratio of 20,and extraction time of 20 min. In verification test, the contents of total polyphenol and total flavonoids in G. jasminoi-des were 1.70%(RSD=1.43%,n=3),3.23%(RSD=3.72%,n=3),with relative error of 1.80%,8.75% with predicted val-ues,respectively. CONCLUSIONS:The response surface method based on PB and CCD is simple, reasonable and feasible to opti-mize the extraction technology of total polyphenol and total flavonoids in G. jasminoides. The method can provide reference for its industrial extraction.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2009;26(1):162-172
The aim of this experiment is to find a feasible impersonal index for analyzing the physiological mental fatigue level. Three characteristic parameters, relative power in different rhythm, barycenter frequency and power spectral entropy, are extracted from two channels' electroencephalogram (EEG) under two physiological mental fatigue states. Then relationships between such three parameters and physiological mental fatigue are analyzed to explore whether they can be of use for detecting (or monitoring) the mental fatigue level. The experiment results show that the relative power, barycenter frequency and power spectral entropy of EEG exhibit strong correlation with physiological mental fatigue level. While physiological mental fatigue level increases, the relative power in theta, alpha and beta rhythms, barycenter frequency and power spectral entropy of EEG decrease, but the relative power in delta rhythm of EEG increases. The relative power in four rhythms, barycenter frequency and power spectral entropy of EEG reflect the change of physiological mental fatigue level sensitively, and may hopefully be used as indexes for detecting physiological mental fatigue level.
