Chinese Journal of Anesthesiology 1994;0(05):-
Objective To investigate the effect of propofol on N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor-mediated currents. Methods Hippocampal neurons were prepared from newborn Wistar rats and cultured for 8-12 days. Whole cell currents were recorded using patch-clamp technique and cells were voltaged-clamped at - 80 mV. 100 ?mol?L-1 NMDA and 3 or 48 ?g?ml-1 propofol were applied with a multi-pipe ejection system. GABAA receptor was then blocked with 100 ?mol?L-1 bicuculline to investigate the effect of propofol on NMDA receptor without the influence of GABAA receptor. Results Run-down of INMDA induced by 100 ?mol?L-1 NMDA applied to neurons which were cultured for 8-12 days was 15%?8%. Propofol 3 or 48 ?g?ml-1 significantly inhibited spontaneous excitatory postsynaptic currents and elicited a Cl- -mediated response by direct activation of GABAA receptor in the absence of GABA. therefore produced a reversible inhibition of whole cell currents activated by NMDA. After the GABAA receptor was blocked by 100 ?mol?L-1 bicuculine propofol still inhibited NMDA currents slightly. Conclusion Propofol inhibits the NMDA subtype of glutamate receptor mainly through activation of GABAA receptor. It can also directly suppress the NMDA receptor slightly.

Objective; To investigate the remodeling mechanism of the retrodiscal tissues of temporomandibular joint after mechanical loading. Methods; 15 adult New Zealand rabbits were subjected to traction between the mandibular ramus and zygomatic arch in the postero-superior direction unilaterally using elastic force. The animals were killed respectively at 2, 4 and 6 weeks. The histologic features were observed by Hematoxylin & Eosin and Alcian blue staining. The expressions of aggre can and collagen II antigen in the articular disc of temporomandibular joint were observed by immunohistochemical staining. Results: The articular disc of the traction side in temporomandibular joint was characterized by an early phase (2 weeks postoperatively) with partial anterior disc displacement and disc deformity and subsequently in deposition of fibrous material in the matrix of the retrodiscal tissues. With time going on, fibroblasts significantly decreased and connective tissues increased. A small quantity of cartilage-like cells were also investigated in that area. However, no obvious histological change was observed in the control group. Compared with the control group, glycosaminoglycan, ag-grecan and collagen II were weakly positive in the intermediate zone of articular disc in experimental group. Aggrecan was stronger positive in the intermediate zone of articular disc after two weeks in experimental group. When traction period prolonged, glycosaminoglycan, aggrecan and collagen II were strong positive in the retrodiscal tissue of articular disc in experimental group. Conclusion; These investigations reveal that distracting mandibule towards rear and top through ansa capitis, the synthesis of cartilage matrix increase and a small quantity of cartilage cells appear to adjust to its functions.

Bone is the most common metastatic site of breast cancer . And breast cancer metastasis to bone can lead to osteoporosis , hypercalcemia , spinal cord compression and pathological fracture , which seriously impact the patientsˊ quality of life and survival . Chinese herbs have a potential advantage in the treatment of breast cancer metastasis to bone. In recent ten years, a number of studies showed that Chinese medicine monomers, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) extracts, and Chinese herbal compound prescriptions played a role in in-hibiting breast cancer cell proliferation , invading and relieving the bone destruction and bone pain by different molecular mechanisms .

Chinese Journal of Dermatology 2003;0(08):-
Objective To report the result of analysis of 72 cases of facial cutaneous sporotrichosis. Methods Seventy-two patients were included in this study. They were diagnosed as facial cutaneous sporotrichosis according to clinical mainfestations and fungal culture. Histopathological examinations were done in some atypical cases. The patients were treated with combined antifungal agents. Results The lesion forms were varied, in which lymphangitic cutaneous form accounted for 9.72% and fixed cutaneous form accounted for 90.28% respectively. Nineteen cases (26.4%) had a history of skin trauma before the cutaneous lesions. All of the patients were successfully treated with potassium iodide and/or itraconazole, terbinafine for 6-8 weeks. Conclusions The skin lesions and mycological examination are the important evidences for the diagnosis of sporotrichosis. The main form of the facial cutaneous sporotrichosis is the fixed cutaneous form. The misdiagnosis rate is 16% in primary level clinics. Potassium iodide is an effective and inexpensive medicine in the treatment of cutaneous sporotrichosis.
