Acta Nutrimenta Sinica 1956;0(04):-
Objective: The effects of magnesium on the oxidation of low density lipoprotein (LDL) were systematically investigated by two different oxidation systems. Methods: LDLs were isolated from pooled healthy human fresh sera by ultracentrifugation. Oxidation of LDL was induced by adding Cu 2+ or co-cultured with cultured human umbilical vein endothelial cells. Conjugate diene was measured to assess the susceptibility of LDL to oxidation. The extent of LDL modification was determined by measuring the formation of thiobarbituric acid reaction substances (TBARS). Results: (1)The presence of Mg 2+ resulted in a protracted lag phase at doses of 0.3 mmol/L, 0.6 mmol/L, 1.2 mmol/L, and 2.4 mmol/L, as well as decreased production of TBARS when LDL was oxidized by the addition of Cu 2+ , at doses of 0.3 mmol/L and 0.6 mmol/L Mg 2+ .(2)Treatment of LDL with Mg 2+ (0.3 mmol/L, 0.6 mmol/L, 1.2 mmol/L, and 2.4 mmol/L) reduced the production of TBARS during endothelial cell-mediated LDL oxidation, P

Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of long-term repeated treatment of facial wrinkles with application of botulinum toxin A (BTXA). Methods A total of 52 patients had received 8 injections in seven years with BTXA against facial wrinkles, including forehead wrinkles, fishtail lines, glabellas wrinkles, and nasal dorsum transverse wrinkles. Besides day 1 (baseline) and day for the next injection (end-point), follow-up visits were scheduled on 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months after every injection. The therapy effect and safety were evaluated. Results For all the patients, it began to take effect on day 3 or 4 after the treatment and best effect appeared on 1 month post-treatment. Patients' selfevaluation as grade 1 for the improvement of forehead wrinkles, fishtail lines, glabellas wrinkles and nasal dorsum transverse wrinkles, accounted for 100%, 97.1%, 99.8% and 99%, respectively. Correspondingly, cases as grade 2 accounted for 0, 2.9%, 0.2% and 1.0%. Grades 3 to 5 had not been reported. With the repetition of treatment, the efficiency increased. The average of effective duration was (7.8±1.1) months, which lasted longer with the injection times increased (r= 0.256, P= 0.02). Adverse reactions observed in the previous several injections, including ecchymosis, feeling of tightness, rigid expression and severer wrinkles near the injected site, which were mild and the incidence rate decreased after the following injections (r= 0.850, P= 0.01). Severe adverse effects, such as allergic reaction, headache, blepharoptosis and dysraphism of eyes had not happened in all the 52 patients. Conclusion Long-term repeated application of BTXA against facial wrinkles is safe and the efficacy is confirmed. The approach can be applied repeatedly to those who have indications and good tolerance.

AIM: To observe the protective effects of losartan and astragalus membranace on the kidney of diabetic rats, and to study their possible mechanisms. METHODS: The diabetic rats were induced by a single intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin. At the end of 12th week, changes in urinary albumin excretion, urinary ? 2-MG excretion, Ccr,NO,ET-1 levels in blood, urinary and renal tissue were observed. Serum and urinary TGF-? 1 concentration, average volume of glomeruler, average thickness of glomerular basement membrane were also measured. RESULTS: In the treated diabetic rats, urinary albumin excretion, urinary ? 2-MG excretion, Ccr, urinary and renal tissue NO, urinary TGF-? 1, average volume of glomeruler, average thickness of glomerular basement membrane decreased obviously as compared with diabetic untreated rats. These effects were enhanced when losartan was combined with astragalus membranace. CONCLUSION: Losartan or astragalus membranace reversed the injury of renal structure and function in STZ-induced diabetic rats. The protective effects were enhanced when losartan was combined with astragalus membranace. The decrease in NO,ET,TGF-? 1 concentration in renal tissue may be one of mechanisms for this action.
