1.The effect of colloidal bismuth subcitrate on the gastric blood flow in rats with ethanol-induced gastric ulceration
Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 1986;0(05):-
The effect of colloidal bismuth subcitrate (CBS) in different doses on the rat gastric mucosal blood flow was measure by using laser dopper flow techinique. The results showed that CBS don't increase the gastric mucosal blood flow, but help to maintain a better blood flow in 20 mg,40 mg doses after the ethanol given, andCBS protected gastric mucosa of rat from ethanol-induced ulceration. This paper suggested that CBS may be decreased vascular permeability to protect the gastric mucosal blood from Ethanol damage.

Objective To investigate the relationship between the p27~(kip1) expression and the change of radiosensitivity of esophageal cancer cells. Methods Radio-resistant cells (EC9706R) were gradually isolated by means of repeated gamma-ray irradiation (6 000 cGy in total) upon human squamous esophageal carcinoma cells (EC9706).The radiosensitivity of these two types of cells was measured by standard colony formation assays, their cell cycle distribution analyzed by flow cytometry respectively, and the p27~(kip1) expression detected by immunocytochemistry. Results As compared with their parent cells, the isolated human squamous esophageal carcinoma cells(EC9706) showed clearly greater radio-resistance(for EC9706R,SF_2=65.71%,D_0=2.20 Gy,D_q=1.61 Gy,N=2.07,and for EC9706,SF_2=46.72%,D_0=1.61 Gy,D_q=0.99 Gy,N=1.85;SF_2,D_0,Dq and N were all higher). As to the cell cycle distribution, the population of G_1 phase cells in EC9706R cells was significantly decreased, but the proportion of S phase cells was significantly increased as compared with the parent cells.Immunocytochemistry revealed that the p27~(kip1) expression of EC9706R cells was clearly lower than that of EC9706 cells. Conclusion Cell phase change due to the decrease of p27~(kip1) expression may be one of the mechanisms of the generation of radio-resistance in esophageal cancer cells.

Objective To investigate whether gastric hypersensitivity exists in functional dyspepsia patients, and to observe the number of mast cells in proximal gastric mucosa in gastric hypersensitivity patients and the change of mast cell degranulation after stimulation so as to evaluate the role of mast cells in gastric hypersensitivity. Methods Gastric sensation threshold was determined using barostat in 40 functional dyspepsia (FD) patients and 15 controls. Twenty three patients were divided into two groups on the basis of perception threshold: hypersensitivity group (FD H) and normal sensation group (FD N). Mast cells were stained by immunohistochemistry method, mast cell number was calculated by microscopy and the average optical density valves( A ) of mast cell were obtained by microspectrophotometry (MSP). The ultrastructure of mast cell was observed under electromicroscopy. Results Gastric sensation threshold (i.e. perception, discomfort and pain threshold) was significantly lower in FD patients than in controls ( P

IrritabIe boweI syndrome( IBS)is caused by muItipIe factors, and the pathogenesis has not yet been cIarified. RecentIy,the roIe of brain-gut axis based bio-psycho-sociaI medicaI modeI in the pathogenesis of IBS has been wideIy accepted. Brain-gut axis forms a nerve-endocrine-immune network mediating bidirectionaI reguIation pathway, which pIays an important roIe in maintaining homeostasis between centraI nervous system and gut. Brain-gut axis abnormaIities may Iead to imbaIance of the homeostasis and subsequentIy induce the occurrence of IBS. This articIe reviewed the advances in study on brain-gut axis dysfunction in pathogenesis of IBS.

Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (Medical Sciences) 2002;22(3):235-6, 264
To determine the relationship between Barrett's esophagus (BE) and features of gastroesophageal acid reflux, 24 h esophageal pH monitoring was performed in 90 patients. The patients were divided into 3 groups: 31 subjects with BE, 21 with mild esophagitis and 38 with severe esophagitis. The following parameters were evaluated: the percentage time of pH < 4; the number of reflux episodes over 5 min; the duration of longest episodes and DeMeester score over total period and the auterior three parameters in erect and supine position. All these parameters in BE were significantly different from those with mild esophagitis (P < 0.01) and not significantly different from those with severe esophagitis (P > 0.05). During supine position all the above parameters in BE were significantly different from those with reflux esophagitis (P < 0.05). It is concluded that the quantity of acid reflux is not an important factor in development of BE in gastroesophageal reflux (GER), and the acid reflux in supine position might be important in development of BE in GER.
